If X-Men was made 30 or 40 years ago, who would you cast? I'd say Yul Brynner for Professor X, Clint Eastwood for Wolverine, and maybe Jane Fonda for Jean Grey.

this has been done alot before, but the search function is half-useless so no harm in it I 'spose.

mid-to-late 70's cast quick thoughts

Peter Fonda as Cyclops
Pam Grier as Storm
Sly Stallone as Wolverine
Raquel Welch as Jean grey
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Colossus
Richard Harris as Banshee
Will Sampson as Thunderbird
George Takei as Sunfire
Martin Landau as Magneto

I could do a less almost "all-icon" cast if I had as good knowledge of 70's film as I do current film.

Professor X - Yul Brynner

Wolverine - Jack Nicholson

Storm - Pam Grier

Jean Grey - Jacqueline Bissett

Iceman - Mark Hammil

All I can think of for now.

Thought of some more...

Magneto - Jack Palance (sorry, I couldn't find a better picture)
4310.jpg

Shadowcat - Brooke Shields (yeah, I'll be flamed, but still)

Colossus - Arnold Schwarzenegger (good call, BT18)

^ I considered Brooke Sheilds but she's 6 feet tall and not particularly Jewish looking.

Pam Grier would've been an awesome Storm! Good choice! Those are great pictures of Yul Brynner and Jack Nicholson, too. Those guys definitely would've done well in those roles.

Martin Landau is a great choice for Magneto! And I also think Stallone would've been a good Wolverine.

Shadowcat's Jewish? The only Jews who are "Jewish-looking", though, would be those from the Middle East, with the dark features. A convert to Judaism won't necessarily look Jewish.

No, sorry, but to the barely keen eye you can identify common jewish physical features, many of which overlap with other eastern medditerranian and Central Eurasian ethnicities, but all together have something of a uniqueness. In addition to someone like the blue-eyed, Northwest European being identifyable as being at almost the opposite end of the caucasion spectrum.

I mean, someone, though, who doesn't remotely fit a person's idea of what a Jew should physically look like, who's a convert to Judaism, no one would ever know, by looking at this person, that he or she is Jewish. My whole point was that a person can look at someone and know immediately, or be fairly certain, what his or her ethnicity is. But religious faith is something subjective, and has no influence on physical appearence; setting aside religious clothing, etc. Now, there are several common Jewish physical features, since there's a mixture of religion and ethnicity, here, but if Shadowcat is Jewish, is she supposed to possess any of these features, or have none of these features at all, and be a convert?

^ Kitty is supposed to look somewhat Jewish and the actress playing her shouldn't look uber-aryan.

For those who don't know what my picks looked like, here are some pics:

You rock.

De Niro for Wolverine.

Thanks.

Personally, I think De Niro would've made a better Punisher than Wolverine. Nicholson remains my top pick for a 1970s' Wolverine.

Nicholson would have worked if he hadn't always been built like David Spade.

True, Nicholson isn't the buffest guy in the world. He could've bulked up a bit, though. It's not like Plummer had the right physical approximation, either.
