CBS is Bringing MacGyver Back to Television

[hopeless]

Made me wonder what if he escapes unaware how long he was held to explain why they turned on the media!

He obviously goes into hiding to escape the media and in the process begins to think he's recognising signs of his former captors operating in the US he goes to see his father's old friend unaware he is also suspicious and their joint investigation reveals he's right and the friend gets him involved in a group he joins as a result of his success unaware his superiors suspect Macgyver is a turncoat which becomes a plot point as his former captors were unaware he remembered anything about his time imprisoned.

How can this be better using the existing cast?

Trailer did nothing for me and the story doesn't even happen in the 80' but modern day.

Whoever said it would be set in the 80s? Of course people are going to be disappointed when you go into something with totally unrealistic expectations like that. Same with his hair. It was unlikely they'd have him sport an actual mullet, so they gave him the modern equivalent.

It may not be necessary but if you are going to do a callback to a character like MacGyver the least you can do is give him some of the same characteristics and what stands out more than a mullet?

When I read the announcement of a new show I hoped it was set in the 80' which was not an unrealistic expectation in my opinion.

I don't mind about the mullet and since this show is contemporary, he better not have one it would have been ridiculous.

I'll watch it since I have a crush on Lucas Till, but... This really looks bad, I couldn't stop thinking about how it's everything MacGruber parodied (since it was a parody, but thought they'd make it a lot cooler and more modern).

I just remember that Macgyver had an arch-nemesis named Murdoc. Wonder if he'll be brought back along with the shadowy organization he worked for.

Not really interested. The trailer didn't do it for me. Some shows can be rebooted while others should be left alone.

Might work better if it was dealing with the next generation rather than a prequel since it would work better with the previous material.

nah... to be honest, MacGyver didn't work for me back in the day and it looks like THIS version didn't work for me, either... pass...

Yes would have much preferred a revival with Richard Dean Anderson back as MacGyver maybe teaching others how to do what he does & maybe one of his students turns on him etc.

I'm a little confused because I could have sworn they said the original pilot was scrapped and everyone except Lucas Till and George Eads were fired several weeks ago, and the trailer we saw was for the redone pilot(except I don't remember anything about James Wan directing it).

Jeez that's.... I wouldn't be surprised if they bump it to midseason. That's seriously cutting it close.

It's cool that James Wan is back on directing the pilot though. Maybe it will address some of the complaints people had with the trailer. I wonder if he'll work from the same script as the first pilot.

Some SNL sketches don't work when expanded into full shows or movies. If you want to campaign for a MacGruber show, make another topic, because I'm actually looking forward to this show. I was a fan of the original and chances are this could improve on it by focusing more on action and MacGyverisms. The original lost its way when it became too preachy and MacGyver became an environmental surveyor and a big brother to troubled teens instead of a government agent who goes on dangerous missions.
