One of the bloggers over there (Shadow and Act) refers to the Hollywood system as "White Supremacy."

They go overboard over there though with their rage at white people telling black stories. As an Asian American, I don't really care if a white director is directing a movie where the themes are set in Asia as long as they treat it well. I thought that Letters from Iwo Jima was a brilliant movie, and that was directed by Clint Eastwood. Mainly it's because it's Clint Eastwood, but still it's a great movie. Silence is going to be set in Japan (although I think they are shooting in Taiwan) and that's going to be directed by Martin Scorsese. Sure the main protagonists are white, but the film is set in Asia and it's directed by Martin Scorsese, so it should be good.

The funny thing is they ignore things like Spielberg directing The Color Purple and Amistad.

Both could be called "black stories" but are told by a white guy. The Color Purple is great, never saw Amistad

If Spielberg was to direct a film about Martin Luther King Jr., then that site will likely throw a fit. However, since it's Steven Spielberg, he should be given the benefit of the doubt. Same if Scorsese was to do another movie about Muhammad Ali or Ron Howard does a biopic on Michael Jordan.

Besides, who would be stupid enough to bash Opie? Those guys might if he directs a film about a black person.

Yeah you've been going on and on about Shadow & Act for a while, trying to put everybody on there into a little box but it's just not true.

So how would Wakanda be portrayed on screen? I've heard Japan and I've heard China. Which one is more accurate depiction of Wakanda? Or how about Thailand when it was known as Siam?

I think with Asians you guys have a buttload of your own directing and writing stories, while black people got like a select few.

The Howling Commando's were a diverse group and Hogun from the warriors three was Asian. Marvel just hasn't utilized those characters much.

I hope the howling commando's have a good role in Agent Carter and The Warrior's Three get a one shot adventure or bigger role in Thor 3.

We do have a lot of stories. I for one am excited by "Silence" directed by Martin Scorsese. It's on next year's must see list for me. There has been an emergence of Asian directors on the rise in recent years, most notably James Wan, Jon Chu, Justin Lin and Cary Fukunaga as well as Ang Lee.

I am fine with Melinda May for now.

Any chance Black Panther shows up in the reshoots for Age of Ultron?

My guess is Wakanda will definitely be there (I have my theories based on the photos of Comic-Con) and I wouldn't be surprised by Black Panther in costume. I'm skeptical T'Challa or any other Panther would show up, though.

Although, if they have scenes with characters interacting with Black Panther (if so, kudos for keeping that a secret), it would explain why they would cast someone before even a director. At this point, they're only needed for the voice over work.

If that is truly their stance, then you should just join the vast majority of sane people on the planet by not giving a crap. Someone in the previous iteration of this thread said it right. "Black movies", "white movies" and the like are silly and nonsensical distinctions.

We'll see what happens in the re-shoots whether or not T'Challa and/or reference to his country shows up in Avengers 2.

I don't think reshoots are for adding characters so much as doing stuff that later revealed won't quite work. I think BP is more likely to debut in his own film, with possibly a stinger/cameo in Cap3. I think that might be for the best rather than cameoing in a movie that already has so much else huge in it, give him his time to shine. It'd be like trying to release another big movie the same time.

Well, if that's going to be the plan, then all of the reports of Carol Danvers appearing in Age of Ultron are false.

on the Asians thing- I see Shang-Chi being introduce in the Netflix series (probably Iron Fist).

As for BP, I see Thailand as the ideal shooting locale and if he isn't heavily referenced in AoU, I'll be shocked.

Thailand is an unlikely filming location due to the current political situation. South Africa would be a likely filming location if they want to film in Africa.

I think they may shoot the film in South Africa.

The fact they already filmed scenes for AoU. South Africa has a solid film infrastructure and industry capable of handling large productions.

you should give it a go. both Hounsou and Ejifor give great performances.
(and Hopkins of course, you can't go wrong with Hopkins)

I agree, South Africa is a fine choice. My guess is MS is planning a late 2017 release for BP so I totally hope for some news on that (maybe a director announcement) in about 11-12 months

For one Dr. Evil is oversimplifying things, and there is no "their" stance. It's like saying SHH has a stance. Individual people have individual opinions. Two...of course marvel studios doesn't care what a blog has to say, even when they make good points. They are about $$$ just like every other Hollywood studio.

Vin Diesel is mixed race isn't he? Well if he becomes Black Bolt, it may mean that the Inhumans will be the first superhero film since Blade 3 to have a non-white guy to lead a Superhero movie.

If it's announced before Black Panther of course.
