Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther! - Part 6

Again, I disagree. T’Challa was the MVP for me. Killmonger is a very close second.

I thought Boseman was awesome as T’Challa, going from a Prince is unsure he is ready to be king at the start, to being a conflicted King living with the mistakes of his family’s past coming back to bite them, to stepping up at the end and truly becoming a King who fights for his country and people suffering around the world.

And he played it all superbly.

Could you elaborate why?

He turned in a great performance. Every line, gesture, and moment was delivered with palpable sincerity. The humor works, the intensity works, the stoicism works, the confusion works, the disappointment works...it all works. Again, everyone was great, but there’s a reason this man is the king.

Alongside Chris Evans as Cap and Gal Gadot as WW Boseman's performance is a reminder that you don't need to 'edgelord' the nobler superheroes in order for the characters to be interesting on the big screen.

"edgelord"?

Great actor. I love him in this role. The only thing I didn't like was that he seemed like a better fighter in Civil War.

Could be he just had a better choreographer. I too want to see more hand to hand combat out of him though.

Hopefully Coogler can step up with the action in the sequel, it was one of my few complaints about BP.

Agree about Boseman though, he just kills this role.

"edgelord"?

The hopefully past tendency, that we saw with Cavill's Superman, of making traditionally nobler comic book heroes more flawed in the belief that they'll be more 'relatable' to a modern audience.

As he did with Jackie Robinson in 42 it's a testament to Boseman that he can make a saintly hero a genuinely compelling figure.

Chadwick should never need to sleep alone unless he wants to after this. He was just incredible.

I loved seeing his version of a hero who knew tough times were ahead and essential to him achieving what he needed to

I put it down to, in CW he was more ferocious because he was pissed. He was up for straight killing anyone in CW after T'Chaka was killed but because in this film most of the people he was fighting were Wakandan, he wasn't about killing them or hurting them too badly. Even in Korea, the goons he fought at the casino, he dispatched quite nicely.....and then you see that one swipe he takes at an outrider in the IW trailer, you see it's a more ferocious offensive move than anything he did in his ow movie because he's fighting an alien monster than his own Wakandan brethren......or maybe I'm just trying to reason an excuse lol

Bosemans performance was nuanced and calculated. He felt just like T'challa from the comics honestly. Stoic, noble, level headed, confident, and regal. And what I loved was his relationships with the other characters felt very real. Idk why people are saying he got outshined by MBJ, he was a great villain but he was all anger all the time so much so that his humanity was lessened. He was very much more one note, showing much less of a range of emotion.

I totally see your point.

The best part of Boseman's performance for me was that every time he and Lupita shared screen time, he was totally pining for her in so many ways, but the weight of his responsibilities and their contrasting life choices made it difficult for him to be more direct with his feelings. It was subtle and believable, especially for the MCU which hasn't had the best record on romantic subplots.

Yeah the anti heroes have been great but the noble guys are just as important.

They handled the romance in a low key, realistic manner. Hope we see more of it in the sequel.

They have been doing that lately.

Dr.Strange light amount of romance.
Spider-Man romance was not bad.
Thor 3 no romance.
GOTG Star-Lord and Gamora are not together in that way.
Ant-Man didn't have much, Scott and Hope are not together.
Civil War had a little bit.
Winter Soldier didn't have any.

Only seems to be big with Iron Man.

Kids dont wanna see kissing, gross.

True. Although I thought the Dr Strange and Spidey romances weren’t very good.

Dr. Strange didn't really have a romance, and Spider-Man was pinning for a girl until he found out who her father was. I think both were done very well.
