The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Chanes of this beating SM2 Quality wise?

Could this really potentially top SM2?

  • Yes, this has a good chance of doing so.

  • Not sure

  • No, I don't think this film has a chance of de-throning SM2

You're making an assumption on the genuine thoughts of thousands of people here. Same as MessiahDecoy. Group/herd mentalities are a real thing, but there are always exceptions and outliers which, often, form a different group/herd. Considering all views are opinions and, therefore, subjective ideas, people may genuinely feel that one movie is better than another regardless of the opinion of the majority. I think many people gauge the quality of a film based on the views of professional critics who are, for the most part, educated to judge movies on an established set of criteria. But even those critics disagree with eachother and have personal views on what fulfills those criteria, which just reinforces the fact that it all, ideally, comes down to the genuine feelings of the individual.

tl;dr: There are gray areas and people don't "know" one particular truth deep down. Even well-versed fans of the source material.

I hope this didn't come across as harsh. I have a nagging feeling that a lot of my recent posts have because I've been in a bad mood for the past few days. Apologies if it does. :)

I'm not saying any movie can be objectively better than another.

All I'm saying is even if most people enjoyed ASM2 more than SM2 they wouldn't openly admit it.

SM2 has become the Holy Grail for some Spider-man fans plus there are those who feel Sony betrayed Sam Raimi and they must continue to tear down the ASM franchise no matter what.

How many people hated ASM even before the first trailer was released?

How many people hated SM4 before a trailer was released? I believe you were one of those people.

Is there a reason for the continued woe is me posts on here? It's funny seeing the other side of the coin as Raimi was apparently ruining childhoods by making a Power Ranger Goblin and Ock have a wife just a short decade ago. I find that the group of people you mention as ruiners of all things optimism are vastly outnumbered by the sea of people who think this is going to be the best movie ever made in the history of man and nothing can go wrong ever. Both sides are dumb.

If ASM2 gets a higher critical and fan response than SM2...then we can have a looksie around.

I don't think it will be better than SM2. I don't really have a lot of faith with the cast/crew of TASM2 right now.

I'm saying ASM2 might not get a higher critical and fan rating regardless of merit because there has been bias against the franchise since it was announced.

There is a large segment of the population who feel Sony betrayed Raimi.

Imagine if Nolan got fired after TDK or Whedon got fired after Avengers 3. Any reboot immediately following those films would be swamped with negativity.

I just think the negativity for the Spider-man reboot is less justified because Raimi had just done SM3 so there was good reason to question his creative choices and eventually give him the boot.

I give it almost no chance. Spider-Man 2 is by far the greatest Spider-Man movie ever made and one of the greatest superhero movies ever.

That's funny since your signature is about the X-Men Cinematic Universe, which is such a huge mess and is full of continuity errors. I have very little faith in Days of Future Past, though I do think it could be the best X-Men film yet since none of the ones we already have are actually that great IMO. I thought that X2 and First Class were good, but the rest range from atrocious to mediocre at best.

I agree with you about SM2 being the best SM film and one of the greatest superhero movies ever, but that doesn't mean TASM2 has no potential of beating it. Even if the chances are slim, the potential is there.

I think it at least has a very good chance of coming close to SM2's quality.

I'm not a fan of how some people see their own opinions as some kind of general fact and act like they sit on some high horse. Goes for both sides.

Same. Opinions are opinions, and people should be allowed to express them freely. But there is certainly a difference between fact and opinion. For instance:

  • Spider-Man 2 is a fantastic movie: My opinion
  • Spider-Man 2 has a 93% on RT: Fact

Big difference. If someone dislikes SM2, then that's fine, because everyone will always feel differently about something, especially a film.

i have never been a huge fan of SM2 to begin with

I've always loved it. :)

I like SM2, I just care so little about the hero and his love interest. Something ASM fixed immediately. So ASM2 is going to be amazing.

I agree. SM2 is a great film, but I just can't like Peter and MJ's relationship at all, especially due to Kirsten Dunst and how her character was written. It brings the film down a notch in my eyes.

So how do you come to a conclusion? One has to be better than the other, no? Do we just say they're even due to the members on each side of the fence? There's a reason they're outliers, I'm sure there's people out there that think Fantastic Four or Green Lantern were better than SM2 or The Dark Knight. Do we rule that a possibility simply because the outliers exist? No.

This is not a reflection on TASM2 as I have high expectations with it but SM2 is the best CBM there is(along with TDK) there are more chances of it not beating it

It doesn't necessarily have to beat it,I would be more than happy if it beats TASM's 73% on RT,anything near 80% and I'll take it and run

Yeah what I hope and care for the most is that it's a great movie for me. I honestly don't expect everyone to love this one.

I don't know about you guys but more than better I would like a different kind of Spider-man movie
SM1 and TASM were really similar,SM3 was garbage

I would want TASM to be different from SM1/TASM,SM2.A good different that is.
Or a lot better version of SM3(TASM2 and SM3 seem to have a lot of common themes)

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but did you not previously sport a signature about the "Rules of Posting", or "Posting 101" that heavily contradicted this post?

That was a sarcastic reference to many of Ultimatehero's posts where he always backed up his "facts" by "That's Writing 101" and was basically bragging about being a writer himself so his opinions were always fact.

I see, gotcha! ^

Same.

I just want this to be a good movie. Like I said previously, the only film this should be competing against is TASM1, not the Raimi films.

Should be but won't be. The comparisons to the Raimi movies will always be there. Even the late great Roger Ebert, who gave ASM a positive score, made comparisons to both SM1 and SM2. IMO, the movie or any movie for that matter should be reviewed on its own merits/faults.

True. Personally I won't have SM2 in mind when watching this film unless they re-adapt the "Spider-Man no more" storyline again.

Lol it's fine to compare this series to Rami's. People do it with Burton's Batman and Nolan's Batman. Same goes for Donner's and Snyder's.

Yes but Webb's series is being called a Raimi rip-off.
