For all we know people will say TASM2 is ripping off the Raimi series by having more daytime shots. There will always be something lol.

I don't think they were saying that. They were saying that it is more similar to Rami's.

I was just saying that some haters could use that as an excuse to say that TASM2 is ripping off the tone of the old movies.

I always found SM2 to be overrated. I think quality wise, it is on par with TASM. TASM wins when it comes to acting, character portrayals, emotional moments, dialogue, tone, and faithfulness to the source material. SM2 wins when it comes to story, pacing, and villain.

I don't think it's hard to make a film of better quality than SM2. I think there's been a lot of better CBM's than SM2 since it came out (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, The Avengers, etc.) as well as better CBM's prior to SM2 (Superman 1 & 2, TMNT (1990), Batman: MOTP, X-Men 2, etc.).

I think SM2 is in the same leagues as The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and the Avengers. If anything, I think those movies are a little overrated, too.

So how do you come to a conclusion? One has to be better than the other, no? Do we just say they're even due to the members on each side of the fence? There's a reason they're outliers, I'm sure there's people out there that think Fantastic Four or Green Lantern were better than SM2 or The Dark Knight. Do we rule that a possibility simply because the outliers exist? No.

You come to your OWN conclusion. And no, one doesn't have to be better. This is entertainment. It's not a science. It's an art. There is no universal set of laws that makes one better than the other. It's all based on personal views. It's not about possibility. It's about preference. Again, why do you think professional, trained critics who are all educated on the same criteria still don't agree on everything? Why is it that even a tag team like Siskel and Ebert didn't even completely agree on all the movies they viewed? Because it's NOT objective no matter how hard you try to make it so.

People need to stop treating entertainment as science. This is where a lot of the fanboy problem comes from. We tend to treat our OPINIONS (that's what they are, regardless of how you think them out) as facts. They're not. And that's not just movies. It's comics, television, video games, music, etc. None of it can be objectively "better." And when we try to make it so, that's when you get a lot of the hostility between people who have different views on a subject.

When an objective educational field discovers universal laws on entertainment that allow us to gauge the quality of entertainment, then we can begin making this ultimate judgement on films.

You are completely right about this. We shouldn't treat it as science, or politics. This is not a life or death situation here: its entertainment. People treat their opinions on film as facts when in reality they are nothing more than opinions. Period.

This.

Honestly, what's the point in comparing them?

They are two different series with 2 different takes on the characters, as well as two different directorial visions. It wouldn't be a very good comparison on those principles alone.

Indeed. I'm just happy i get to see a Spider-man movie.

I was just saying that some haters could use that as an excuse to say that TASM2 is ripping off the tone of the old movies.

Then those people are arguably as close to ******ed as you could get. Both are based off Spider-Man.

I'm sure there will be some scenes that will be similar but I'll be no worse than what Nolan got for his Joker end scene.

 though I wouldn't say TMNT or Superman 1 or 2 were better and MOTP was animated.

I think X-Men First Class is possibly the best Marvel Movie. Either that or Iron Man.

This is not a reflection on TASM2 as I have high expectations with it but SM2 is the best CBM there is(along with TDK) there are more chances of it not beating it

It doesn't necessarily have to beat it,I would be more than happy if it beats TASM's 73% on RT,anything near 80% and I'll take it and run

For me:

80% or more - I'm satisfied
85% or more - I'm very happy
90% or more - I'm walking on cloud 9

I think with origin story out the way these are all on the table.

Will TASM2 beat SM2 critically?
No
Could it beat it from the fan community and GA?
Possibly, I think purely based on what I've seen this could too it.

The only reason I don't let trailers or con clips hype me up to no end is because I have been burned so many times. X3 had such an amazing trailer and clips...man I was excited for that. I try to go end with no expectations so I can only be impressed. Gone are my days where I expect the best movie that can be made.

I think you guys should stop dividing everything in terms of "haters" and "non-haters". Criticism can come from a genuine place, you know.

The thing about SM2 that you rarely ever see in a CBM anymore is that it never, EVER stops being about the character and his plight. That's what makes it so damn powerful and effective in my opinion. Nowadays, after a certain point, many superhero movies devote its second half to whatever the villain's master scheme is, as if that were particularly interesting. SR did it, TASM did it, MOS did it, BB did it. I don't think many people give two ****s about a serum that transforms people, or the fear toxins in the water main, or a continent that grows out of crystals, or the Phantom Engine that's gonna suck the villains into another dimension... that's just BS. SM2 did it too, kind of, but it never forgot to focus on Peter's psychology and his arc. That's why the train rescue is so emotional, along with that kick-ass final scene: because it validates all the stuff he's spent the whole movie questioning. It focuses on what sets Spidey apart from other heroes - his struggle with power and responsibility - and it works from that, it makes it its backbone.

It's impossible to say whether the TASM 2 will be better or not. But this tendency that movies have nowadays of feeling incomplete on purpose, and wait until the sequel to only then strike for the fences... TASM 1 was soooo guilty of that, and I really don't want to see that again. Along with this parents business, as if the 1st thing that people thought of when they think of Spider-Man was "Omg, I'm dying to know what happened to his parents!!!"

I do like the "fun" vibe this movie seems to be aiming for. "You know what I like about being Spidey? EVERYTHING!" God, we need so much of that. Garfield himself is also a huge asset. And the guy who directed "500 days of summer" will always get the benefit of the doubt from me. My fingers are so crossed for this film that they might become conjoined, Penguin-style.

I 100% agree with the first part of your post.
Criticism and hate are not synonymous.

Per the last part of your post: Can we get pics if this happens?

SM2 is incredibly overrated in my opinion

When I watch TASM2 I won't be thinking if SM2 so I don't plan on comparing the 2

Anyone who trashed the reboot starting from the day it was announced is basically a hater at this point. I'm not mixing up the terms "hate" and "criticism."

I'm pretty sure people who didn't like TASM just didn't like TASM.

I love it but it has problems so I can see why people don't like it.

i think there are quite a few reasons why some didn't like TASM

1. it was very different to raimis in terms of action scenes and the character of peter parker and some were not expecting it

2. some are unable to accept change and are bitter that sony rebooted the franchise in general for money and are basically want to be able to say screw you sony you messed up now

3. some just didn't like it
