Neither. Cheesecake's a custard. It's not cake or pie. Probably only got it's name because it looks like a cake, and cheesecustard just sounds...wrong.

A cheesecake is a sweet, cheese-based dessert.

Cheesecake is one of the most common desserts in the world and perhaps one of the oldest involving dairy other than milk. The first recorded mention of cheesecake was during the ancient Grecian Olympic games in the occidental world. Marcus Porcius Cato (Cato the Elder) wrote of cheesecake preparation in his farming manual 'De agri cultura'.

Cheesecakes can be made of ricotta cheese, havarti, quark, twaróg, or more usually, cream cheese. Other ingredients such as sugar, eggs, cream and fruit are often mixed in, too. Flavorings such as vanilla or chocolate may be added, and a fruit topping, like strawberry is frequently added. Typically, the cheese filling or topping covers a crust, which may be pastry, cookie or graham cracker-crumb. Sometimes the base is a layer of cake.

CheesecakeThe word cheesecake is also used to describe the creamy, cheesy flavor of the cake. In this usage, there are cheesecake yogurts, ice creams, brownies, and cookies.

There are also savory cheesecakes, often flavored with blue cheese and served as hors d'oeuvres or accompanying salads.

Well since is a distinct crust and filling, pie. Cake is spongy, uniform (though it may have icing, etc., the cake itself is uniform).

The cheesecake is like the cyborg; neither pie or cake, it transcends its origins and the cake/pie binary to become a new, ironic, and tasty entity in its own right.

CHEESECAKE is considered a CAKE, but is technically a pie. This is because cakes are baked, but CHEESECAKE is not.

D'yer see what I've done there ?

Nope, sorry. It's a pie...

You're wrong, it's a cake hence cheeseCAKE.

Cake shop owner: "Can I help you"

Customer: "Cheesepie please"

Cake shop owner "Sorry love, we only do cheesecake here"

Customer "Wrong, it's not a cake"

Cake shop owner "Get out idiot"

Cake is in the name. That explains everything. Hey, how loud can a prarie dog or a hushpuppy bark? What spells does a sandwich cast or can she only turn to sand?
