Okay, to me, it just looks to have same concepts, aesthetic, feel, approach. In all fairness I really liked S&H, but I watched & liked the original programme first time round as I did Chips but something puts me right off this film version, oh that's it,it's tone is completely different to the original.

I was referring to the fact that effectively you are suggesting I should 'get over myself' and buy into films that crush virtually of the original standing of a programme for the sake of some cheap 'anti gay', 'oh look straight man scared of other male contact' jokes.

I never said or even implied that you have to like what you're seeing I even said this doesn't look that good. I said/implied that complaint about the tonal switch for these corny shows like Chips, Baywatch, etc. is stupid. You were never going to get a straight tonal remake that modern audiences would buy into

You were referring to 'tone' - the tone they are presenting is 'college frat boy BS', that's not a monumental leap.

Fans of original programnmes whose wish for a direct translation is not 'stupid'.

The original "tone" (see above) of this franchise was likely never going to sell today, they had to update it for a movie.
Going to serious, dark, edgy etc... would have been lambasted too, but the embarrassing man-child humor is just as bad.
As usual with many of these updates, if the new "creators" (term used loosely) don't like the original tone and characters, you wonder why are they updating it?

And because, like I said, this isn't going the Jump Street meta route, the humor they're coming up with comes off as the generic form of raunchy slapstick humor we've seen many times before instead of humor that relates to the show in question.

Just saw the trailer. It looks pretty bad. I won't be watching this.

Is Ponch not even really Ponch but just someone using that as a cover identity?

And Ponch was meant to be the less serious one in the original. He was the less experienced one who trained under Jon, who was more of the boy scout and blander one.

They're making a Hanana-Barbera Shared Universe starting with Scooby Doo next year but i think it'll be 3D. Funny thing is that Dax is directing/writing it like with CHIPS

Those types of movies for better or worse are consider epics. They are action adventure that should have spectacle. Jetsons would be a comedy. But to do it right, you'd probably need a lot of CGI because it's the future. And you don't spend $100M on a comedy adaptation of cartoon show.

I really hate all the gay panic jokes in the damn trailers. Really seems like they're just in the to make those who don't like homosexuals feel uncomfortable. And this is coming from someone like me who's not prejudiced like that against gay people!

The problem with this and the Baywatch movie is that they look like they're trying to be the next 21 Jump Street, but without the right creative spark to back it up.
And... I just don't find Dax Shepard funny.
