I really liked the Green Lantern/Flash movie rumor.
But if they're talking about a John Stewart GL movie with his attitude from the cartoon, personality from Mosaic and skills from the modern comics, forget that noise, Barry can stay on TV.
Sounds awful compared to the potential a Hal tv or movie series has.
With John, you have to basically COMPLETELY invent a story for a movie of his to work. Mosaic was really not nearly as great as Geoff Johns' GL stories, I'd much rather they go with a trilogy centered around Johns' work. With Hal, there is already so much that they could take inspiration from. There are tons of stories featuring Hal that could easily be made into an epic movie series. With John Stewart, he has ONE STORYLINE that gets mentioned. And personally, i don't think it's compelling enough to build a movie series around that storyline. That storyline doesn't even really have an effect on the greater GL mythos like the big Hal stories do.
One movie with John could be cool, but you're totally squandering GL's potential. John Stewart is a side character, never meant to lead the storyline.
Do you understand that all the main storylines in the GL mythos feature Hal or Kyle as the lead character pushing the narrative?
a John movie would be a very boneheaded move.
If you're doing a Green Lantern movie series that takes inspiration from the storylines in the comics, Hal is the way to go.
A John movie (if it ever happens) should be spun off of the main Green Lantern movie storyline that features Hal Jordan.
The main storyline of a Green Lantern series should be building towards the War of Light in the third movie.
Any Green Lantern vs Sinestro content is gone when you use John Stewart. Gone. And Sinestro is Green Lantern's Lex Luthor. The next GL movie needs to be Hal vs Sinestro.
So yeah, that's a big hell no from me on the topic of a John Stewart movie.
With Johns in such a high profile role at DC entertainment, I don't think he'd ever allow this to happen though. I think he knows that Hal as the lead is really the only way to go if they're going to make another movie.
I believe your suggestion was a John Stewart vs Mongul movie. While that would be cool, it's kinda random. "hmmm, John Stewart has literally no good villains that have a strong tie to him, what's a badass space villain that he could fight? ahhh yes. Mongul"
A movie like that would be cool, but it also completely disrespects the history of Green Lantern. That movie would pretty much have nothing to do with any influential Green Lantern storylines. The best superhero movies pay respect to the comics they are based on. Your suggestion would be completely random, and created completely from scratch. Whereas with TDKT you can clearly point out very obvious influences from the comics. Same with all the MCU and some of the Superman movies. When has John Stewart vs Mongul ever been a thing? Why would people want that, when there's no precedent for it? Hal vs Sinestro on the other hand, is THE hero/villain relationship of the GL mythos. It's what GL fans actually want to see. And John Stewart vs Sinestro would be awful.
A John Stewart movie would be a complete shot in the dark. Especially with your suggestion. You have to completely create his story from scratch. Last time I checked, these comic book movies were adaptations. There's too much AWESOME Green Lantern material out there to take inspiration from. Creating a story from scratch would be disrespectful to the wealth of amazing material that already exists. With Hal, you can build a Star Wars style space epic around him that is based on preexisting comics. It shouldn't be a page for page adaptation, but there is so much ripe material there with Hal as the lead that needs to be on film.
Making a Hal movie that's based on tons of EPIC AS F*** preexisting epic storylines>completely creating a brand new story for John Stewart because he doesn't have any stories already that would be good enough to build a film series around
The way to do it is to introduce Hal first, then John or Guy, and then Kyle. That's the way it works best. It seems so obvious to me instead of trying so hard to make John Stewart work on his own, when it would be so much easier to use Hal.
