Chris Pratt in Talks to Star in Taylor Sheridan’s Next Thriller (EXCLUSIVE)

With “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” postponed for the foreseeable future, Chris Pratt looks to have found his next film — he is in negotiations to star in Taylor Sheridan’s new writing and directing gig.

The film, which David Heyman is producing, follows a former special forces commando (Pratt), who’s recruited by the DEA to lead a black ops strike team targeting drug dealers who are protected by the CIA.

The movie, which has the working title “Fast,” would be Sheridan’s follow-up to his directorial debut, 2017’s “Wind River.” Sheridan has been eyeing this as his next directorial effort for quite some time, meeting with top talent since summer to find the best actor for the job. Since the film carries a budget in the $70 million to $80 million range, Warner Bros. needed a star in order to give it the greenlight. The studio pumped the brakes on pre-production when Sheridan began work on the second season of his hit Paramount Network drama, “Yellowstone.”

I like Sheridan's work and this sounds an interesting premise.

They just need to change the name. Too generic and sounds like it should be part of the Fast and Furious franchise.

I think this in terms of 'success' will go the same way as the Michael Mann film did for Hemsworth. It bombed.

Pratt doesn't seem serious enough for a Sheridan movie.

I can see him playing it similar to his Zero Dark Thirty character.

Sheridan has a distinct style that works for him. That Michael Mann film bombed because Hemsworth was miscast. Sorry but Hemsworth is a lot of great things, but a computer hacker isn’t one of them.

...and Pratt's no Special Forces Commando either.

He's an action star. That's like the default.

Wind River was good. That flashback scene in the movie still gets me. I'm all in on this.

I cant rewatch Wind River because of that flashback scene. I almost skipped the scene the first time I watched the film. It's so real and the way it descends from happiness to the worst nightmare in mere minutes is too ****ed up and sad and infuriating.

Love Sheridan but Pratt doesn't sell me on anything. I'm not sure he has the range for this.

She ran six miles in the snow.

Only just heard of this. Hopefully they move on from Pratt, he doesn't seem to have any range from what I've seen. Regardless, I'll see it for Sheridan. And maybe it'll give Pratt an opportunity to stretch himself.

I think he does. He's mainly known for Parks and Rec and Guardians of the Galaxy, but he's done lots of non-comedic work before. It's in his wheelhouse.

He got his superhero gig by playing a member of Seal Team 6.

People also seem to forget he got his start on Everwood, which was a drama (albeit one on the The WB.)

IMO he hasn't been convincing in his dramatic work either. *shrugs*

Pratt is more known for humor but he's just as capable in drama. He is damn strong in Moneyball. And even though the movies aren't great, he does fine in the Jurassic Park movies. Nothing super dramatic but it's not like he's incapable of it. He does what's required even if it isn't much. He's a good actor. There's no such thing as a comedic or dramatic actor. I'm glad to see Pratt branching out with lead roles like this and not being pigeonholed.

I just trust Taylor Sheridan at this point. The man can write and direct.

Yeah, it's Sheridan. There really isn't a need to worry about Pratt with that alone.

Was he unconvincing to you in Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty? It's OK if you feel that way, but those were both success stories and had good reviews. He wasn't the lead guy in either film, but those were not really comedic roles in comedies.

Chris Pratt may not be Tom Hanks, but I think he's capable of having some range.
