Christopher Nolan Meeting With Directorial Candidates

Zemeckis as Superman director? My God, this is what I've been asking for for a long time. I can't believe it's gotten to an actual rumor now which is really cool. I'd love for this to happen. He's always been my top choice.

Well, I think we have our ending for Batman 3.
i can see it now. after another one of gordons epic monolgues, we see nolan on a computer, we see him click on a link to the dark knight thread on here. duuuuuuuun DUUUUUUUNNNNN

about Zemeckis as director...

...my mom is a wise woman, and she told me something a while ago that unfortunately still rings true today. while Zemeckis getting the job would make my year..."if it's too good to be true, it probably is." so right now, i'm hoping that he ends up as director, but i definitely ain't EXPECTING it to happen.

If Aronofsky or Jones are chosen then it's very likely that we will be getting a Clint Mansell score. That alone makes me wish one of those 2 gets the job. Clint Mansell on Superman would be incredible.

The comment about Zemeckis sounded like he thought about or was a potential but no longer is. Its great that this many directors are interested in superman considering it seemed like the character was one nobody wanted to touch at one point.

IMO, Nolan being attached is part of the reason so many good names are interested.

I'm gonna bring it back, 1997 style: yeah baby, yeah!

Back To The Future was years ago, he isn't the same director. I would still see the flick but I wouldn't be excited if he got the gig.

^ no way of knowing that since he has'nt made a live action film since Cast Away

What about Skip Woods making his directorial debut?

Dominic Sena would be excellent, did you see how fast the cars went in Gone in 60 Minutes? It was SO FAST... he could easily do shaky zoom super camerao effects shooting...yeah

Renny Harlin would be another excellent choice imo. The explosions and action in Long Kiss Goodbye is another amazing thing... he made Sam Jackson look great...

Tim Story? He'd be good for versalalility of character in pointum kashti

Jan De Bont... SPEED anyone?? SUPERMAN NEEDS SPEED...

From the list of rumored names I'd take anyone but Jones and Liebsman.

i would pay to see nolan LOL at anything.
So would I. That would be just as monumental as this:

As for Zemeckis...with his track record I could just as easily see him making a great Superman movie as I could a disappointing one. So I wouldn't necessarily be thrilled if he got the gig, but I'd be cautiously optimistic. I'd definitely prefer him over Tony Scott or Zack Snyder, though.

You may not like it but those animated s**tfests are apart of his filmography. It shows bad judgement on his part to direct a 500 bland zombied eyed animated films.

My point exactly. I wouldn't cry if he got the gig but I would be less interested in the film. They need a hungry up and comer not some old guy who has lost his touch. And I realize that that line is not going to make some people very happy but it had to be said. Is George Lucas a great fit because he directed Star Wars?

I love Robocop and Total Recall but I wouldn't want Paul Verhoven to take a shot at Superman because he has clearly lost his touch when it comes to the sci fi type films.

If Zemeckis gets Superman I will have the first ever male multiple geekgasm :o

if Zemeckis was on the list wouldnt someone leak it?

WB talked to a lot of directors. i think this was just.........talk.

Although it's a question of whether Nolan and Zemeckis have a similar thinking style when it comes to making Superman , WB could ask Zemeckis to make Superman and in return they'll be the ones funding his next movie .

It's not like WB hasn't done this in the past to directors who have made them alot of money. The matrix movies have made WB alot of money and Wachowski's have had carte blanche to make V for Vendetta and Speed Racer. With BB and TDK , WB also gave Nolan everything he wanted to make Inception. Ditto Zach Snyder who after 300's succes , got all the freedom to make watchmen. Yes he had discussion with the top exec. but honestly do you think any studio would've given a director the freedom to include , graphic sex , such faithfulness to the comic that even the blue schlong of Dr Manhatten made it on screen ?

I get what you mean. Zemeckis was one of my favourite directors growing up primarily because his work, ROMANCING THE STONE, BTTF, ROGER RABBIT, FORREST GUMP, were basically Spielberg movies at their best, with all their heart, adventure and sentiment intact, redone with a much more comedic, and genuinely funny, vibe.

However with Cast Away(despite Hanks excellent performance), What Lies Beneath, the 3d/mo cap stuff etc in the last decade the consistently brilliant director of yesteryear, imo, wasn't on display. In the 80s or 90s Zemeckis doing a Superman movie would definitely excite me far more than it potentially does in 2010.

Now they say Aronofsky may be eyeing Preacher. That seems to be more up his alley (still can´t believe HBO chickened out of doing a Preacher TV series!)

We have to think a little more outside the box, guys. Whenever this is discussed, people point obvious A-list names like Spielberg, Cameron, Zemeckis, etc. Given the names that have been tossed around, they´re much more likely to go with a rising relative newcomer, or a director with some reputation that doesn´t have a big blockbuster under his belt. Not only cuz they´re more affordable, but in the hopes of bringing something fresh to approaching Supes.

Robert Zemeckis? Oh man, I'd love for him to be the guy. And Alan Silvestri's comes with him to score the movie...:awesome:

Man...never thought this was even a possibility. I'm very excited for this, though. Zemeckis definitely has the ability when he has the right script to go with. I also hope that he brings Alan Silvestri along for the ride. Given a 100+ piece orchestra, that guy would work very well with Superman. This needs to happen.

Its unfortunate that Affleck turned it down, IMO. His directorial work has been beyond solid.

"When Nolan decides whose gonna direct Superman, you'll know before he goes home & tells his wife!"

:lmao:

I wish Mayimbe hadn't said that. Once Nikki Finke, THR and Variety read that post, they're all gonna fight to break the director news before he does.
