The Dark Knight Rises Christopher Nolan's Goodbye To The Batman Trilogy

I don't care if some Bat fans and some movie critics find Nolan's Bat movies as sub par.

I liked his trilogy and I doubt that I will ever be that much emotionally invested in the new Bat movies as I was by the time of TDKR.

Before Nolan, the only Batman movie that I felt really immersed in was Batman '89. after that all Batman moves were just there, I felt nothing, I simply did not care for what was happening onscreen.

Thank you Nolan.

I`ll say...Good riddance! It's about time! LOL

Nah....

You did good, Chris. Next time don't get too carried away with money, check your ego and focus on the script longer before making a movie

Figured this would happen along the way.

Thank you, Chris. I appreciate your trilogy and the positive mark you've left on the character and his world. Thank you to everyone involved. All the actors, actresses, musicians, story boarders and so it goes on.

Very poignant sendoff from Nolan. He's become one of my favorite directors and I've loved what he's done with the caped crusader. I eagerly await what he does next.

It truly is done. Had a blast during the ride! Such a blast! Never again, will I religiously check a movie forum to see if a character has leaked another line. Never again, will I have an unhealthy need to see spy pics from an unfinished set.

Thank you, Nolan and co! And those wonderful, wonderful actors and actresses.

Thank you so very much Christopher Nolan for reinventing the character of Batman and his supporting cast of Allies & Villains for a new generation as well as revolutionizing the comic book movie genre. IMO not only did you restore proper dignity to the character of Batman from the previous franchise but you added your own unique brand to the legacy of the Batman mythos in your masterpiece realistic story driven trilogy with an all star cast of actors, a brilliant film crew and epic film composer.

Thank you very much Chris & team!

2004-2012 have been pretty intense, to say the least. The most important things are that you showed me (and the rest of us) how big Heath Ledger was going to be and how maginificent Christian Bale is and always has been...

Also, how can I not love the man who casts one of the most beautiful women in the world in two big films? ;-)

Sincerely,
BJR

Ps: please make a small scale movie before you delve into the wonderful world of Bond...

I would like to see a small budget, small scale movie from Nolan.

Just one advice, Do not make Bond / Bourne / Mission Impossible movies !

stay away from these franchises. (as I feel they will only harm your reputation.)

I don't think he'll ever do MI or Bourne. But, he IS a Bondfan, and his favorite is OHMSS, so if he'll make one in that vein, WITH DC...

While this trilogy certainly has its flaws, took liberties with the characters, etc.....

It is damn great, damn entertaining and greater than the sum of it's truly amazing parts.

And Nolan is the man who started it all. A huge thanks goes out to:

Christopher Nolan
Jonah Nolan
David Goyer
Christian Bale
Michael Caine
Gary Oldman
Heath Ledger
Morgan Freeman
Wally Pfister
Chris Corbould
Nathan Crowley
Lee Smith
Lindy Hemming
Chuck Roven
Emma Thomas
Hans Zimmer
Liam Neeson
Anne Hathaway
Aaron Eckhart
Tom Hardy
Maggie Gyllenhaal
Tom Wilkinson
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Cillian Murphy
Ken Watanabe
Marion Cotillard

and, yes, even Katie Holmes.

This was an amazing trilogy, an amazing ride and a thrill to follow and track over the past decade (has it been that long?). I will enjoy this for the rest of my life, and pass it along to my kids. I can only hope that the next group of names that get their hands on the Batman film franchise will love it as much as the names above.... I hope they do -- I hope they surpass The Dark Knight Trilogy.

They will have their work cut out for them...

Thank you for raising the bar Chistopher Nolan and everyone involved with making these great Batman films .

imo he has set the bar so high i think only an Arronfsky or a fincher can take up the reboot challenge

preferably Fincher

Thank u nolan! I love you man!
I still remember going to batmanbegins.com and there only being the logo, and nothing clickable, and i just happened to click refresh... The logo was clickable... I clicked it... And it was a pic of the tumbler! I still maintain i was the first one to see it and im sticking by it

We have to give it up for the man who has put toghether arguable one of the best trilogies of all time and definitely the best superhero trilogy. Just look at where the batman franchise was left off before he arrived.

It's a bit sad this is it for him and Batman but he's done a hell of a job and brought a new level of respect to the superhero genre in general. Hats off to Chris Nolan.

I think we have had such a strong three films, because Nolan loves the character, and is unwilling to compromise anything unless he feels it serves the character(s) he has created. A very classy piece from the man who saved the Bat on film, and in doing so added tons of new bat-fans.

I've really come to appreciate Nolan during the making of this movie. I've always liked his films, but he's really established himself as someone apart from the rest of Hollywood. He's so unpretentious about his films which are obviously way above most other films. He says he just makes action and popcorn flicks, but he does them so much better and with so much emotional resonance.

He's one of the few in Hollywood who knows when (and is willing to) simply stop telling a story. He hates repeating himself. He has that self restraint to not get carried away with his stories.

I always felt he didn't really care for Batman and did it more as an obligation to the studio, but it's great to see he really has a soft spot for the character and the films. And as tempting as a sequel might be, I think his self-restraint and his single minded devotion to telling stories will prevent him from cheapening TDKR by following it up with another.

Classic films. Nolan rocks and its obvious to see how much he loves teh character today. I wish him good luck and I will watch all his movies no doubt.

...and if he changes his mind anytime in the future, by all means!!! lol

It's really pretty amazing... the journey Batman has taken on film. When Schumacher ran the series into the ground, Batman was considered the anthrax of superheroes for a while. Whenever anyone discussed a potential Batman movie again, you'd hear a lot of nipple and codpiece jokes. And rightfully so... Schumacher RUINED Batman and WB just went ahead and LET him.

But then they decided to give it another shot and probably some people were skeptical because even those who had seen Memento weren't totally sure what kind of Batman movie Christopher Nolan would give us. But once he started casting the roles and he gave some interviews on it, I think a lot of us were like, "Yeah. This is him. This is the right guy."

And Batman Begins proved that. While it might forever live in the shadow of The Dark Knight, I don't think we should downplay just how much of a milestone that film was, because it was the first Batman film EVER that truly explored Bruce Wayne and Batman as a character. Burton tried a little bit in Batman '89, but he clearly was more interested in the Joker and pandering to Nicholson's ego (and don't give me that crap about how he was "brilliantly decentralizing the hero").

Then of course came TDK and what an amazing film it was. Anyone who wasn't on board before that one certainly was afterward. And now TDKR is an amazing conclusion and possibly (at least to some of us) the best film in the series.

And now, here we are, in the golden age of comic book movies. And while I loved The Avengers, Captain America, X-Men: First Class and plenty of other films in the genre... there's really only one series that reigns supreme, and that's Batman. We can criticize DC and WB all we want for their missteps over the years, but we should also be happy that they let Nolan do his thing and create the greatest superhero trilogy of all time.

You'll be missed, Mr. Nolan. Can't wait to see what you do next.

I actually got a bit emotional during reading this. Well said!!!

That being said, in the future there could be a whole new John Blake story to tell. :-).
