The Dark Knight Rises "The ending was not a dream." - Christian Bale

That's the first time i heard that. People are mental.

My guess is that Nolan planned for this information to be given in the form of a toy release thinking we'd never find out...

"Deleted Scene"

:oldrazz:

I remember people claiming it was a dream before I saw it, and I remember thinking when I finally did see the ending, I was like WTF? are they talking about. It was quite obvious to me it was no dream.

I never saw it as a dream for the simple reason that WB doesn't have the guts to make a movie where Batman actually dies. That said, I like the ending the way it is.

It had nothing to do with WB. Nolan had control, so if he wanted him dead then he would kill him. But he had the image of a happy Bruce Wayne in his head for years.

Never thought it was a dream

I never thought it was a dream but I thought it was really s**tty of Bruce to let Alfred think he was dead.

The first time I saw dark knight rises I thought it was just Alfred seeing something but that was because I missed the part about the auto piliet and also the part of about the beads. Those 2 things show that it was not a dream and that burce really lived.

Just goes to show how stupid people are when clearly if you paid attention to the film that the ending isn't a dream. Wayne has the scar on his head from Bane. The autopilot and Bat signal fixed.

Not to mention the two clerks going on about the "missing string of pearls".I frankly could never understand anyone thinking it was "Alfred's Fantasy".They made the ending Crystal clear.

I was thinking about it. Some people hate the ending because Batman would never quit. Valid argument. But this is Nolan's Batman, it was already established in TDK this was never long term for him. So by saying it was a dream in their delusional mind, Batman did not give up - it was either continue the war or die, Batman went with the latter.

late merry christmas to all. just saw bales quote and i just got another gift myself! just awesome to hear that from batman himself. so thanks christian for clearing that up ( even though it was almost certain he survived, it was for me still a tad bit of how and when did he have time to eject) so its great that the ending was real and not a d%€@ dream. makes this trilogy imo even better with that awesome ending in nolans take. and hopefully rocksteady doesnt kill wayne at the end of arkham knight. pass the mantle if you must, but dont kill wayne.

To be fair, since Bruce knew about Alfred's frequent trips to that very spot, him showing up was a less risky way of letting Alfred know he was alive.

I wished that the end of Rises had given us more clue as to what Bruce is going to do with his life. I can believe he would give up being Batman but not that he would live a life without a purpose of helping people. Can he continue inventing energy sources, or work as a medic somewhere poor, etc.

All we needed to know is that Bruce is finally at peace. Beyond that, it's just fan-fiction at that point, IMO.

But why? The rest of his life is better left to our imagination. At that point, Bruce probably doesn't know what he's going to do with the rest of his life, so it was fitting. All we know is he got out of Gotham. We have some knowledge of who Bruce is deep down, so we can imagine him living a life of peace or helping others whenever he can. It's just a part of who he is. When he stopped being Batman the first time, he tried helping the people, and he was in a dark place. So im sure he'll make an attempt to help humanity in his 40s, 50s, 60s even if it's the small things. Especially now that he has happiness to look forward to. I doubt he will become selfish overnight.

I think that's part of the point of the movie too, heroism can rise even out of the smaller aspects of life (like simply comforting a traumatized boy). I think that's very true to life too. You don't have to put on a cape and cowl to still be a decent human being that looks out for his fellow man, and even the smallest gesture could be something that ultimately inspires another to do good themselves.

I thought the point of the ending was that it showed Alfred's dream had come true. Bruce was happy. Settled down with a woman he loves. Presumably kids on the way eventually. I bet their first child is a real Huntress.

I'd just like to have seen a life purpose for him. Like the end of Kingdom Come where he was a medic. Obviously he will have a purpose I'd have just like to have seen it. Personal preference.

Perhaps after using the clean slate, Bruce and Selina started going by Mr. & Mrs. Bertinelli? :cwink:
