In the comments section of an article that was posted on DenofGeek.com one person made some unsubstantiated claims with regards to Inception post production process.I'm taking it with a serious grain of salt but i thought i'd share it anyway:

It can't be that bad. This time 2 years ago, they had just locked down editing on TDK and were moving into sound. They still have plenty of time to do CGI. And I don't think Emma would let Chris run out of money before doing a huge component like sound. :funny:

Wanted was shot (at least partially) with RED one cameras and you can tell because the image was incredibly sharp and crisp in many scenes.

I think if Nolan and Pfister ever shoot digitally, they'll probably use the Red One camera or something more filmlike and sophisticated than the Panasonic HD cameras (which produce mixed results IMO).

Just to play devil's advocate here.
This obviously is Nolan's biggest movie and if i'm not mistaken also his biggest when it comes to VFX. With TDK & Batman Begins he didn't have that many full virtual or blue/green shots.
Most of the action shots were filmed with the actors and done for real.
Compare that to the footage description of Inception :
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/showestnews.php?id=64386
What follows are eerie visuals with people floating and the ethereal string chords build, as we see Leo sitting at a table in an ornately adorned room explaining to Ken Watanabe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt what they do:

"In the dream state, your consciousness defenses lower," he tells them. "It makes your thoughts vulnerable to theft, called extraction. So you can actually train your subconscious to defend itself from the most skilled extractor."

Watanabe asks how he knows that to which Leo replies, "Because I AM the best extractor."

It then gets into a mission with some interaction between the three characters talking about it with Leo telling them that they won't just need a good thief, but a forger. Throughout, we see a few shots of Marion Cotillard and Cillian Murphy, and we may have seen Tom Hardy, but honestly, we're not sure what he looks like when not dolled up as Charlie Bronson! In one scene, Leonardo yells at Joseph Gordon-Levitt about him not being prepared to take a job, and we see some action as the field agents. Some of the more striking visuals are those on snowy mountains similar to the Tibet scenes from Batman Begins with lots of agents driving around on snowmobiles.

Another voiceover says something like, "Dreams feel real while we're in them, it's only when we wake up that we realize we're actually strangling" - not quite sure about the last part because the strings were getting more intense as the footage continued. Leo tells someone, "We specialize in a very specific type of security, subconscious security."

"You talking about dreams?" he's asked in return.

After the tagline of "Your Mind is the Scene of the Crime" comes on screen, we're introduced to Michael Caine's character who seems to be a recruiter for Leo's team. He tells Ellen Page's character, "If you have a couple months, Mr. Cartwright has a job he would like to discuss with you."

Ellen Page asks, "Are you work placement?"

And then we see some of the crazy visuals of buildings falling over and crumbling into water similar to the first trailer, and it ends with Leo saying, "Not exactly."

So there is definately talk of bigger FX sequences. Combine that with the scale in which Inception is shot ( almost IMAX) and the fact that they were filming for a long time , it could be that there is some truth to this.
Highly unlikely though because if there is one thing you can say about Nolan , it's that he his aware of the problems that directors have when making movies.

The footage shown was quite fascinating because it had a lot of enigmatic visuals similar to the ones we've seen before, but it's also a little clearer what is going on bearing in mind the general premise. It certainly looks like Nolan may have created something that falls in line with The Matrix in terms of combining action with philosophy, which certainly would make the movie very different from everything else coming out this summer.
:awesome:

the W bros got this kind of budget for the sequels. he got this big budget for the first movie.

i really hope this movie is unique in story . i dont care for the action with Inception.

Eehhh not really. I dunno if Inception is supposed to be franchise or anything but it seems to be a standalone movie. And The Matrix was always meant as a trilogy. Post the matrix sequels , the wachowski's got 180 million for speed racer. Post BB & TDK Nolan got 200 million for Inception.
In both cases the directors needed to bring in the cash for WB in order to make their passion project. Nolan said that he could've made the movie between Insomnia & BB but instead chose to wait and proceed to make BB. The exec. definately liked his idea but i think that he would'nt have gotten the same freedom he has now . There would've been no way in hell WB would give him 200 million to make Inception after Insomnia.

i watched all the important Nolan movies

but just because hes previous movies were good doesnt mean this one will be good.

The thing is though, this is such a high concept film it's still a bit risky with a budget this big. Yea it's Chris Nolan and he is WBs golden boy. But I don't think his name has the pulling power of someone like Spielberg yet.

Even if the film is utterly brilliant (which i'm 99% sure it will be) that doesn't automatically translate to mega box office money, as we all know. There is just too many philistines in the world.

And the problem there is...? Inception, Chris's dream project, will still have been made. WB will still go with Nolan for Batman 3, so he's already got a chance to redeem himself if it majorly flops. Who cares if Inception isn't a megablockbuster in the box office? :funny:

its a movie forum :awesome:

I personally don't have a problem if that's what you're saying Anita.

I'm just saying it is a big risk on WBs part.

I'm sure a studio cares if a movie under performs. It doesn't matter what the director has done for the studio in the past, its all about what he's gonna do for them now. And plus they might more closely watch him on Batman 3 if this under performs. Because let's face it, no one likes to lose money no matter what.

Of course not. But WB has to realize they signed off on it too. :funny:

Anyways, box office is something we can't really worry about unless the marketing sucks.

I think if they miss the mark on the box office with this film, Nolan will get them their money back with BB3 and make some more with the last HP films along the way. No doubt WB let Nolan make this film if he returned to Batman 3.

There are still people in this world who don't know who James Cameron is. Luckily, marketing isn't exclusive and it all comes down to this: "From the Director of The Dark Knight".

BOOM. Sells itself. This is NO risk on WBs part.

Universal greenlighting the $200 million dollar Green Zone was more of a risk.

Green Zone looked like it cost $10k. Horrid camerawork, even by Greengrass standards.
