Fantasy Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey

Of course RDJ is in this.
I thought the rumor was that he was going to star in the next project Nolan has planned after Odyssey? Personally, I'd have a hard time buying him in a setting like this.

RDJ the one who has partaken in Greek love with Tobey McGuire? :hmm:

I'm still trying to come to grips with Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland as Telemachus.
I know it's the most probable scenario and Damon was the first one to be cast so it's pretty much a given for him, but it's not yet confirmed who's playing who, right?

And yet you have no issue with Matt Damon?
Personally I have no trouble seeing Damon in a period piece. He fit in quite well with The Last Duel, IMO. He has a classical face & build that can pretty easily cross time periods, but I think we're so used to the aristocratic and "elegant" stereotypes of the ancient periods that guys who don't fit that mold get written off. I think he'll do great.

RDJ, though? Maybe he has it in him. But it's hard for me to picture (especially with the mannerisms he brings to every role, even in Oppenheimer.) It would take both some heavy design work and a level of humility from him to make it work. I just don't think he's a transformative performer.

He’s one of our great actors so I think he can fit right in.

I mean, check out some of his early work, he can pull off period pieces.

Matt Damon as Odysseus is right up there with that Great Wall movie. I just don't see it.

Like I said in this thread before, if it had to be anyone Nolan's worked with before as Odysseus, I'd have preferred Bale or Jackman or even DiCaprio over Damon but I trust Nolan when it comes to actors. Him getting a decent performance out of Harry Styles cemented that for me. :o

Bale as Odysseus is such a no brainer, i'm more curious why they haven't worked together since the TDK trilogy.

It’s bigger than Bales and Nolan’s working relationship… it’s about giving Spidey the Oscar nom that he deserves!

Along those lines, I'm also curious as to why Nolan hasn't worked with anyone from The Prestige again besides of course Bale and Michael Caine. Going on 19 years and he hasn't worked with Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, or Andy Serkis since.

Bale would have been a top notch choice for Oddyseus. I would also have loved to see McAvoy or Fassbender in the role and generally in a Nolan movie at some point. McGregor would have been great too.

Interestingly it took Burton a very long time to work with Keaton again too. I think there might he something to directors having to get over seeing their Batman actor as Batman. Or at least the feeling like it's inviting that association for the audience. Also, Nolan has consistently used different leading actors in his films with Bale being the one exception. It's not like he's worked with Leo or McConaughey again either. I think maybe it helps give the films each their own personalities more to switch up the leads.

I'd love to see Nolan work with Bale again someday, but I also feel like Bale as Odysseus would feel a bit like I've seen it before even though it could've easily worked. I think he's gotten great work out of Damon in supporting roles in his movies so I'm actually excited to see Damon hopefully bring his A-game to this. He's a much better actor than he tends to be given credit for.

I thought the movie about the futuristic helicopter cops was next for Nolan?
