7/18/2006 The first Soncinemad Film Music Festival held in Madrid over the first weekend July was a great success. Jum-packed with two concerts and several seminars by famous composers, one of the highlights was the masterclass by Christopher Young on friday June 30th that I was honoured to announce. During the seminar at the Palacio de Congresos de Madrid Christopher Young talked about his passion for filmmusic, his life and the composition process in general. Besides this he showed the train sequence from Spider-Man 2 that featured his music and highlighted several key moments. He also used the seminar to present his score for Ghost Rider to the audience for the first time by showing the prologue and main titles sequence of the upcoming movie.
On saturday, a CD signing was arranged at the Yelmo Cineplex Ideal, Madrid where fans were able to get their favourite albums autographed by Christopher Young. A small photo essay can be found here.
Source: http://scoremagacine.com/Entrevistas_eng_det.php?Codigo=30SM: We feel Entrapment is a score more connected with Hard Rain. The using of eight french horns outlines even more the romantic side of the story. Do you think that action and adventure movies call for great, epic music? Up to what extend composers are allow to give free reign to their ideas, to choose freely without interferences the thematic and the music or else, they are subject to some indications or guidelines from the director or the producer?
CY: Indeed, Entrapment is a score connected to Hard Rain even now I don´t really remember the scores, I do remember being similar. Eight french horns: I´ve used them a lot, probably too much now. I´ve used in Entrapment, I´ve used in Hard Rain, I´ve used again in Ghost Rider, I like eight horns. The composers are not given free reign to do anything. There are given guidelines. And then you work within those guidelines. So I have to say I have never been given entirely free reign.
Source: http://www.chrisyoung-filmmusic.info/Interview/interview.htmLets take a look at the future. What are your upcoming projects this year?
Although it wont be released until next year, I sat down with Mark Steven Johnson, the director of Ghost Rider, a couple of days ago and we started to talk about the music. I probably saw 40 minutes of the movie in his editing room and I am just about to get a copy of the movie to see the entire thing for the first time. The composing process is really in the beginning, so I do not have the foggiest idea of what I am going to do; I havent written a single note for it yet.
