Chronicle - faux-supers documentary

is the Landis hate connected to the MOS video? i dont remember in the slashfilm comment section fans hating Landis. things changed on SHH and Slashfilm when he realesed his MOS video.

Not at all. I think some people might think that, but not a mass majority

I actually agreed with a lot of his points. But he comes off as pretentious or overly passionate. in other things Ive read

Nope. Landis hate is because of Landis.

exactly

his personality reminds me of a rich yuppie snob he is not very likeable

i agree that the way he talks is wrong. if i would be in a bar drinking beer i would punch him in the face .

it would be easier for me to sleep.

oh i agree lol i just dont like his attitude he comes across a like a guy who thinks he is smarter than everyone else

He may come across as a bit of an egotistical jerk...but generally the points he makes are spot-on. I remember disagreeing with one thing he said on the MOS video, but I don't recall what it was.

His idea for Chronicle 2 is much better than the film we'll end up with.

His idea for the sequel is intriguing. Honestly, to me, the whole concept of Chronicle is just someone gaining those abilities and perhaps documenting the whole ordeal, nothing more. I don't need any continuation of the first film's characters, especially considering only one is alive.

What I'd love to see is a film where someone with some type of powers/abilities decides to use them for what they perceive as good, but as horrible to others. For example, what if someone viewed the whole Israel/Palestine situation as unfavorable and a burden to the world and just flat out leveled the place? Like, wipes them off the face of the earth? What are the ramifications? How does the world react?

Or what if someone with said abilities believed in crazy conspiracy theories and set out to do something about them, like chemtrails for instance (not endorsing whether or not its real here) and started bringing down unmarked planes? Etc. So much untapped potential with the basic premise of an ordinary person gaining powers.

His idea sounded more like a spin-off than a sequel to me.

A little bit more info on how the kids got their powers...

Max Landis Explains the Mysterious Origins of the Superpowers in ‘Chronicle’

Posted on Tuesday, November 5th, 2013 by Angie Han

We know exactly where Superman’s indestructibility comes from, or how mild-mannerd Bruce Banner turned into a giant green rage monster. But unlike their more mainstream counterparts, Josh Trank‘s Chronicle didn’t spend a whole lot of time dwelling on how, exactly, the boys got their powers. The film seemed far less interested in the sci-fi mechanics of their abilities than in what the guys did with them once they had them.

All of which is a rambly way to say that it never really even occurred to me to wonder just what happened to those kids that fateful night. But if you’re curious, screenwriter Max Landis does have an explanation, and you can read it after the jump — along with a little more information about his Chronicle sequel that never was. (Spoilers follow.)

In the movie, we see Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Matt (Alex Russell), and Steve (Michael B. Jordan) climb into a strange hole in the ground which is emitting a strange sound. Once inside, they discover a blue, glowing crystal which turns red. Their noses start to bleed, the scene cuts to black, and then the movie picks back up with them some time later after they’ve already discovered their telekinetic abilities.

While chatting with Buzzfeed, Landis explained in a little more detail how the kids got their powers. Apparently, they come from Massive Organic Geoelectric Objects, which Landis describes as “a race of crystalline organisms that communicate and propel themselves through radio waves, and turn higher life forms into telekinetic drones.”

That revelation isn’t likely to change anyone’s perception of Chronicle in a significant way, since it was such a small part of that movie. But the organisms would have been more central in subsequent films, had Landis had his way. The writer has previously said that one of his disappointments about being taken off the Chronicle sequel was that “I don’t know if I’ll get the opportunity to explain what MOGO was or what he was doing in that cave.”

Landis further revealed to Buzzfeed that he’d envisioned Chronicle as the first of three movies, and that the second would have followed two “embittered” antiheroes tracking down Max, the sole main character left alive at the end of the first film. A few months ago, he mentioned that his idea for the sequel would have centered around a woman who tries to become the world’s first supervillain.

Do you find Landis’ explanation satisfying? Are you bummed we won’t get to see more of these organisms?

I still would have liked Landis to write the sequel, its a shame Fox dont want him anymore, but to be fair Fox is doing some great movies lately, so hopefully this sequel follows suit.

I don't see why he had to go and leak info about it.

I don't understand. I thought Andrew(Apex) was the world's first super-villain.

He just basically doesn't give a **** now that he and Fox had the falling out.

He's a bit of a *****e anyway, just listen to ANY podcast or interview he does

Ok, I enjoyed Chronicle, it was pretty cool and actually made good use of it's found footage format (which lies more on the director, I think)...but it wasn't high art, not enough to warrant him coming off like such an ass. I think we should make him make more than one feature before we showering praise on the guy, because he clearly showers enough praise on himself.

Hmm... Not sure if I'm still interested with Landis and probably Trank gone. Plus the one actor who can return isn't exactly hot at the moment.

I wanted to see the sequel of this but now I have lost interest.
