Cirque du Freak

lol, this movie is suddenly on my radar
awesomeness

the trailer looked like a harry potter/twilight hybrid
which kinda scares me.
it seems they are trying to make the movie
like twilight to bring all their fans in.

Yeah as a fan of the books i'm like...um not sure about this...

but movie-wise it actually looks pretty good

Don't see a similarity with twilight, but it does look like they are trying to cash in to the appeal right now by changing the title. It would've been cool if they stuck with Cirque Du Freak

This is based on a book series so theres gonna be multiple of these and I liked the trailer. So I'll be seeing it. And the trailer did look similar to Harry Potter. Is that how the books are? Anybody read any?

And the trailer didn't give off a Twilight vibe.

I read all the books and really liked them....and that trailer just made me sad .... I do not like the look of it, looked too kiddie like and cheesey and wasn't keen on the casting of Mr C the vampire can't ever rember his name now lol

The books are great. There's like 10 or 12. A few times I wish they went darker but it's a children's series.

The trailer is 400 brands of awful, but I'll try to reserve judgment until I see the film.

yeah. i'm still gonna see the film, but i always read the books with the characters as being english (i am uk born, btw). i'm still not to sure about john c. reily playing a well spoken grammaticaly correct vampire, though.

oh! i've just had a thought: what would the movie look like if tim burton was director?

Never heard of the books pre-trailer, but it looks good to me minus some shoddy cgi which I'm hoping gets cleaned up.

looks terrible, so moving fast causes rainbow colors. Thats about as gay as vampires sparkling

Saw this today. It was ok, but not amazing. More of a renter. They totally set things up for sequels. It almost felt like this film didn't really have an ending, because they started hinting at all this stuff they wanted to explore in the sequel (which might not even get made).

My favorite character was...the spider...or the little gollum-looking guy. The acting was pretty tacky all around, but some of it was intentional (and done well).

I have to be honest, I was looking forward to this film so much, but I left the screening disappointed.

The acting is okay, but Reilly is miscast. There is one particular scene near the beginning between Reilly and Dafoe that was just so cringeworthy, Reilly was totally out of his depth. I haven't read the book but I assumed the scene was meant to be taken in a serious tone, but it just came off in a comical way.

The effects were also pretty poor and it in a way reminded me of Twilight. I'm guessing that, like Twilight, the budget wasn't really there and they were hoping that the movie would be a big enough hit in order to warrant a much bigger budget for the sequel. The Twilight franchise got their wish, I doubt the Cirque Du Freak franchise will.

All this being said I thought the story was decent, and I was entertained and happy enough until the last 20 mins or so where the film fell flat for its' finale. It's definitely a decent film, a think the rating of 10% among top critics on Rotten Tomatoes is very harsh. I would say this reaction has been born out of frustration with the genre more than anything else. I say this because some of the criticisms make no sense. One critic says it's hard to know where you're at watching the film, I thought it was pretty straight forward and never felt confused. Another critic said that Chris Massoglia made Daniel Radcliffe look like a talented thesp, again I think this is very harsh, especially given that Radcliffe has a lot more to work with than Massoglia and is still pretty poor.

2.5/5 for me, it would have been 3 if the finale was stronger.

Saw this last night with a friend and enjoyed it quite a bit. Granted, I've never read the books. I'd never even heard of them until reading about production on this movie. Overall, I'd watch a sequel, but I have a feeling this is gonna be a case of "Movie that sets itself up to become a franchise, then the remaining movies never end up happening".

the books are some of my all time favorites, haven't seen the movie yet. But it looks like they took a series, which by the end was extremely dark, and made it a family film. lovely....

and if I hear one more freaking person say this is a twilight ripoff, I swear to god I will kill someone. This series was over long before twilight was even thought up. Let alone the films been in production since long before anyone thought it would be "cool and sexy" to make a vampire ****ing sparkle lol.

I'm afraid to say that is the exact vibe I got from the film, a story based in a dark setting being dragged against its' will into a 'light' atmosphere.

This trailer had me cringing like a mother****er. I think I can name a thousand actors who'd look more believable playing a vampire than John C. Reilly....

Same here. I mean, John C. Reilly as a vampire? Can we even start to take this seriously? Not to mention they promoted it with all the vampire **** to cash off of Twilight's success.

That's were it went wrong for me chief. Seriously, it pisses me off to see a potential fine franchise be butchered.
