Civil War II announced

All for the same dumbass reasons as before? You'd think they'd learn.

Honestly I don't see the point in these massive events anymore. They get dull and boring and for someone like me that really enjoys the narrative and thinking behind them the constant nonsensical punch-ups are stupid as ****.

I saw pointed out elsewhere, but Marvel's done a decent job recently of using a story title but doing something quite different with it. Certainly, Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar are very different writers, so my hope is it'll be something quite different.

Not sure if I'll care. That most likely depends on whether I'm reading ANAD Avengers, Iron Man, or Captain America: Sam Wilson.

As soon as events start getting numbered I'm out. What Secret Wars are we on now? 4? 5?

I've got to say, I really couldn't care less. If it's good I may pick it up in a trade collection. I just can't budget in any of the books involved.

nice to have writer/artist revealed for the book. Curious to see what is the conflict this time and what riff with the heroes will happen this time. Plus any big deaths/shocking things.

I was going to say, if you were out when events starting getting numbered, you'd be out in the 1980s since that's when Secret Wars II was. Technically, I don't think this Secret Wars was numbered but there was a Secret Wars III as part of Fantastic Four in the late 80s, so this one would be IV if it got a number (since, obviously, Secret War is entirely different).

I think Secret Wars II is probably a good analogy to this. Secret Wars II wasn't a recycle of Secret Wars. In fact, it was very different. The hope is this will be the same.

Looks like it's Carol Vs. Tony this go-round. And while I am not happy with the stance Carol is taking I just got more excited for this.

That's an interesting take. Hopefully they'll explain why each takes their position. I could see Ultimate Carol Danvers take on that role, but I'm not sure about 616. 616 Tony, on the other hand, I could see doing that, but, hey, maybe he learned from his mistakes. Good for him to not be the villain this time.

It also helps explain why Bendis is leading the charge on this one.

ETA: Have we heard much about Carol Danvers's new comic? This might show that it has a fairly leading role in the Marvel events. On the other hand, she's in the Ultimates, so maybe that's just where it's going to be.

All that I've heard about Carol's comic is that the first issue is amazing. She's also showing up in A-Force as well. So that's 4 comics she's featured pretty predominantly in - Her own, The Ultimates, A-Force and now Civil War.

The premise follows in line with what the Ultimates are doing - which is stopping threats before they happen, so I can't really blame Carol for taking this stance in this case. I just hope Bendis doesn't write her so that everyone hates her like what happened with Iron Man in the first Civil War. That would only hurt her movie IMO.

I guess the question is whether her book will take a front and center role or if one of the other books (probably Ultimates) is the bigger one.

Well interesting plans on what the story us about. I wonder who the poor dead hero be. As we can already rule out a few spidey, torch, ironman, Captain marvel as major ones likely not to be bumped off. Curious to see how this turns out.

Al Ewing was asked that question in Twitter and he said he has to keep quiet on that for now. I'd be very surprised if the Ultimates weren't heavily featured. Because right now, isn't there mission to prevent threats before they happen? And since Carol is also on the A-Force I can see their book featuring heavily in this too. (Medusa would totally be on Carol's side I think).

As for the dead hero? I originally thought Natasha (since everyone is gonna be after her anyway - and Marc Laming has posted some panels on Twitter that show things are not going well for Natasha), but I am probably wrong especially since her on-going starts soon.

Sounds to me like
"Hey look, we're doing Cap 3 movie plot for this event.
Cool, huh?
Now, get ready to shell out the usual $3.99 per issue to read the whole thing."

It's clearly not the Cap 3 movie plot. It's the Cap 3 movie name (minus the words Captain America on one side and the roman numerals II on the other side), but it's not the same plot. It doesn't even involve the same two sides.

Well, clearly it is Civil War in name only, since Tony is not taking the fascist option.

Seems interesting. Bendis is pretty hit or miss, so I'll wait to see more before passing judepgement.

This looks so amazingly stupid. Worse, it seems like character assassination is in store for Carol, which makes me hesitant to even bother with her upcoming series. :csad:

Well hey, maybe this will be the end of Marvel's 10 year "Make all our characters look like asshats" storyline that began in Civil War 1

On the plus side, Carol is headlining a big event story with Iron Man. On the potential downside, she might be getting thrown under the bus by this storyline (I'll wait until it comes out before I pass further judgement).

I really hope not, but I think War Machine is going to die. I mean Tony's best friend and Carol's lover? Seems like an easy choice.

Bendis is hit or miss, but I hope that with Carol's movie coming out, they won't fall into the same mistake that Miller did with the original Civil War.

I'll never understand how they dropped the ball so badly the first time around. When you have Hank Pym and Reed Richards, the two biggest near-psychopaths in your hero roster on Tony's side, there's no need to assasionate his character. Have THEM take things to far, it fits THEIR characters to do something like clone Thor, not Tony.

The death will probably be an icon, like Stark (as he's the only big iconic Avengers character left) or an x-character, cuz Marvel just loves killin' X-Men

I'm kind of hoping it's an X-character. I don't really care about any of them. But whoever dies will be back in a little while anyway, so it's not a big deal either way.

Looks like it's just a ripoff from Minority Report. I get it that Marvel is a business and needs to make money, but they could at least act like they care about making good stories and coming up with a unique and original plot that isn't borrowed from a ****** movie.

Anyways, I don't like the stance Carol has taken, but I hope she beats the ever living **** of Iron Man. I'm so sick of him.
