I know there used to be a Genext thread but it seems to have disappeared.

Has there been any news or updates about this series? It was supposed to come out last June. Did Marvel end up cancelling the series when Claremont became sick?

I was really excited for this series, hopefully we'll hear something soon.

I don't think I'm excited anymore, maybe when some new buzz gets generated :o

and we definitely need some new buzz.

Okay, so I did some searching. On February 2nd of this year, Joe Q supposedly stated in an interview that this series will not see the light of day until early '08. Boo to that..

Really? Will this have new characters? I just hope they'll use the old, forgotten yet interesting ones for this. I can totally see Magma and Chamber kicking some serious butts.

Or is this some kind of a spawn between Gen X and New X-Men?

Joe Quesada was asked about it on Joe Fridays a few months ago and said it hasn't been scheduled, but may come out in early 2008.

Claremont posted on Xfan in February that everything was on track and they were waiting on penciler Patrick Scherberger.

My guess is the editors don't want too many other books around distracting from all of the big events happening this summer and fall, so it's being pushed back to next year.

GeneXt is set in an alternate universe where the characters have aged in real time (all of the original X-Men are in there upper 40s, and Xavier & Magneto are pretty much elderly). I believe the focus of the book will be a group of new characters (mostly descendants of the X-Men) like Colossus' kid from the Savage Land and a Cable-type character. Also, there will be a girl named Poker who is the daughter of Gambit and Rogue. This book has no relation to Generation X, just a similar name.

^Ok, thanks for that. Hmmm...that's actually interesting. I hope they have Storm's daughter, Torrent.

I doubt it, since I don't see Claremont just swiping that.

Poker? Really? ****ing Poker?

Geez. Just when the relationship between Gambit and Rogue couldn't get anymore lame

Uh, no, there's never been any talk of such a character. And that "Cable-type" character is Cable, just as if he never went into the future.

I actually completely forot all about this book.

So, after further reading, the 'Poker' character is looking to be false. Cable, Kid Colossus, Becky Munroe (possible relation to Storm?), and 'Sparky' (name confirmed by Wizard) are true.
