just thought i would make a thread. that gathers all info that we have so far.
i don't know much about darren as a director but i hear he is a really prolific director and that he like to take his time.

1. its based on the claremont-miller mini series japan arc.
2. its not related to the previous x films in any way (not a prequel or sequel)
3. its called The Wolverine
4. a complete script has been written
5. jackman has put on more muscle for the role

so far we have an anime series that's pretty muc based on the same story that the script is based on. and we have this flash trailer "wolverine vs the hand" that is very well done.

any thing else.

It has a really stupid title?

I have no problem with a one-off unrelated to the other X-Men films, but it seems pretty silly to cast Hugh Jackman if that's the case. I mean, I know his relationship with Aronofsky is one of the only reasons this is happening, but it seems almost confusing for the sake of being confusing.

I don't think its confusing at all. When they say its a one off, it just means that its going to be a self contained story, they don't have to throw in cameos or any other BS.

And Jackman is in this because, like it or not, he's the face of Wolverine. He brings in the money playing the role.

This should be viewed as a self contained story of Wolverine's past before Wolverine
was part of the X-Men Ignoring X-Men Origins:Wolverine.Wolverine will have no memory
of his past. This will be about his time In Japan.Wolverine himself Is the only thing from previous films. This Isn't going to be a reboot.

I don't care much for Wolverine anyway which is why I've been avoiding reading spoilers and all I know is that Wolvie goes to Japan from when Hugh Jackman mentioned it at the Teen Nick choice awards years back.

And Jackman is in this because, like it or not, he's the face of Wolverine. He brings in the money playing the role.

Agreed, Jackman is Wolverine. He's been a trooper too having participated in the last film [to what I assume was much mental discomfort]. But it paid off because now we get a visionary like Nolan doing the character justice.

All we need now is for Fox to hire David Fincher and Michael C. Hall for the Daredevil reboot.

Im glad they still have Jackman as Wolverine as well, I do hope he plays up the anger a bit more in this movie though. I wanna see an unleashed Wolverine going ape s*** on ninjas.

Hes always been a fan of the Japan story and has talked it up in interviews for awhile now. Good to see he finally gets to do it and with an excellent director at the helm.

In special Features on The X-Men Origins;Wolverine DVD It was said Both Hugh jackman and Lauren Shuller Donner wanted to do the japan story as a self contained Solo Wolverine It was Fox who wanted to do a origin story first.

This could be last film with jackman as Wolverine Inless a X-Men sequel IS made. After doing the japan story you have done the best WOlverine Solo story.Aronofsky defently
won't be doing another wolverine film after this. Now that oscars are done he needs to cast it besides jackman.

Hopefully we will get to see Wolverine go all Bersker fury. The closest we have seen that Is In X2.

my opinion is this. if this film is as great as batman begins. then it could be a wolverine in japan trilogy. meaning end the film the way dark knight ends. leave room for more japan story. when orgins was in the script stage jackman was saying this film would be a tenpole for spin-offs and even a wolverine trilogy. well we all see how orgins turned out. what a shame.

But just like how batman is the realistic batman. this should be the more realistic rebooted wolverine. a universe that revolves around wolverine and his classic foes only no x men. make the film so different that its painfully obvious that its not connected to the previous x films visually.

but i agree that to people who don't know the comic and foreigners in other countries who look at the films dubbed in their language. they must be really confused.

its too bad that marvel doesn't own x men. they would do better. first class looks like a good sci fi film and has x men comic feel but i hate some of the changes. magneto is not the hero! he's a bad guy!

but anyways. any more news or wolverine. any comments on the violence level?

Well Magneto wasn't always a bad guy, other wise why would Xavier been friends with him. Besides its more interesting to see the journey that leads Magneto to his belief system.

true but really this First Class should've been a reboot with new actors and a ne wolverine actor doing a cameo.

with the original 5. Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Jean Grew & Ice Man. same plot but a more accurate lineup of characters. and a new wolverine actor could do a cameo. this way it would be a true x men film.

seeing mageto wear one the orignal 5 blue yellow costumes makes me cringe alittle.

and i think atleast the cyclops, jean, breast part wouild've happened had orgins not been so very bad of a movie.

but don't get me wrog. first class will be a good film. but i just subconciously hate the changes.

but anyways. any new news?

One of the saddest things about the failure of Origins as a film is that it completely ruined any chance of us seeing Schreiber again in his brilliant take on Creed. I'd love to see him come back, but along with everything non-Jackman that was Origins, he's done.

Here's Schreiber last week at a Film Festival in Santa Monica

I don't know about that, Schreiber and Jackman are good friends and he was one of the few things that worked in the movie, so I can see him coming back to the role.

i agree Alexi. i can't wait to so your fixed version of the orgins. how's it going by the way?

anyways. yeah, had the fox execs just let Gavin and Co., do their thing, it wouldn't have happened. we would have a woverine trilogy. Liev even said that his friends were suprised that he did this film because he is a dramatic actor not a CBM actor.

the film had great actors in it. i was concerned that Liev would not be a good physical adversary for jackman. but then i saw the first leaked comic footage and then i was hooked. seeing the liev do the animal leap in the first trailer got me hooked. i was like "cool they're trying to show that sabertooth is really a animal man/predator. But it looked so very bad on screen.

and Liev and Hugh do a great job playing off each other and as the man animal brothers. the physical tension between them is there and the very breif battle at the end between them has the tension build ip. but the whole direction and style of the film was terrible.

one thing that the film should've re-explained is why they stop aging at 30. what exactly are their mutant powers? healing and halting aging and they both are animal predator men. the focus on the film should've been them. all the other mutatns had really stupid mutant powers.

liev did a more grounded take on sabertooth. just as hugh adds alittle bit of humanity to wolverine that isn't in the animated and comic versions. Hugh shows us that wolverine is just man who is a victim. he's an angry man but he's not a total animal. So i liked liev as sabertooth. But the wrong people were in control.

the video game cinematics show that the overall story had a good structure. but they really messed up.

which brings up another issue. why do people HATE x3. but they don't bash orgins as much?

anyways. anything else? is hugh growing his hair out?

do you think the claws should be noticeably different this time? it should be the same as what they're doing with spiderman. It seems like they're trying to fix things and improve aspects that weren't done very well in the first spider-man films.

i saw the claws should look more real and deadly this time.

I think Hugh should definitely grow his hair out. It should be longer and not sticking up so crazy like in the original X-Men trilogy. And more realistic claws is a must. They looked terrible in XMOW. When he's in the bathroom staring at his claws... Yikes. I remember being in the theater and my friend said "That looks so fake", and it did.

Hopefully they'll get it right this time. Seems like the director really cares about this, so we should be in for a great movie. :D

Well, he won't be in this movie and I seriously doubt that we'll get another movie. I hate to say it but this is probably gonna be the final Wolverine film we get starring Hugh Jackman [and directed by Aronofsky].

Its safe to say Darren won't do a sequel, even if this movie turns into another Dark Knight. Actually, if this movie does well during awards season in 2013 that'll seal the deal even further as to Darren not doing another one. While the studio might want a sequel, Jackman will probably wanna depart on a good note.

A Wolverine III starring Jackman is highly unlikely, guys :csad: but if there were one, then yeah we could get Liev to come back. But don't keep your fingers crossed.

oh trust me. we all want to forget orgins. orgins is sorta a slap in the face the way that Batman & Robin was back in 1997. So The Wolverine is gonna be a masterpiece.

i say have a wolverine in japan trilogy. just create an original story the continues the adventure from when the The Wolverine ends.

but everything about origns needs to be pushed away. the only thing that carries over would be jackman, which is already confusing.

i wonder how they will make The Wolverine noticably different from orgins.

but i wonder how should the film end. should the film end with a conclusion or an open sequel ending.

As long as Jackman is making money with the character, chances are likely he'll want to keep doing them.

No one even thought or considered Aronofsky would do this movie, so if it does good and he has a good experience - I don't want to be presumptuous, but I don't see why he wouldn't do another if that were the case. But, again its his choice.

Darren doesn't like to repeat himself. Most auteur directors like to dramatically change from film to film. The fact that he's doing a Wolverine film has more to do with him looking for a departure from his latest film (though it does retain shades of the lone desolate figures fighting impossible odds in some of his films) than anything else. He's not like Nolan, who was willing to slowly build up to what he really wanted to do (Dark Knight). Darren will just put all of his interest in the character in this one film. Then he'll move on to another masterpiece about something completely different.

As for Jackman, after dropping the producing gig and pretty much hunting down Darren to do this, its clear to me that once redeemed through this outing as the character, he'll walk away. He did the right thing in pushing for this film, since I think the studio realized the fanbase wasn't begging for it. He also seems to be seeking a career as an actor again. His committment to the character has prevented him from really achieving anything really substantial in the last 5 years. He's Wolverine and nothing more. While Bale was hunting down juicy Oscar roles in between Batman movies, Jackman was doing Deception and Real Steel :whatever: Its time for him to return to form and pursue films like The Prestige and The Fountain again. Films that aren't about money, but quality. He's a great actor, and I hope through Darren's Wolverine movie, people will be reminded of that.

There's tons of Wolverine lure left to cover, but we ain't gonna see it, at least not with Jackman and Aronofsky.

If a Days of Future Past movie ever gets made down the line, and its highly unlikely, then maybe Jackman will don the claws again. I'm just happy the character will be going out on a good note.

really?

so far we have seen wolverine vs sabertooth. We have seen wolverine vs death strike.

orgins was a lame attempt to cover the weapon x story and the sabertooth rivalry which has been handled poorly.

but what else is there to cover. those are the best stories besides the japan story.

again i have a feeling this is gonna be like the last samurai just a starring wolverine but more modern.

its really a shame! really looking back we should have got what we are getting now just with a more accurate line up.

infact alexi. could you do a fan trailer mixing the first class trailer but mixing footage from all 4 films showing a more accurate line up of x men?

ya know. teen cyclops, girl jean grey, angel, colossus from x2, night crawler, baby storm from orgins, wolverine and ice man, gambit

liev schiber version of sabertooth.

what do you say? that would be fun right!

Like I said I'm not going to presumptuous about there career moves, so I'm in the never say never camp of things. Though I really can't see Jackman leaving the character anytime soon, especially if this one is a hit with the fans and critics.

I somewhat agree. I at least think Singer's X-films did a great job of setting up the world, especially X2, which is still in Marvel's top 3 best movies IMO.

I think after the Japanese Saga is done, along with Weapon X and Origins/Sabretooth, Wolvie's best material will have been touched on. Not to say he doesn't have more possibilities, but we have kinda explored the most iconic of what the comics have to offer.

I think the "one-off" idea simply means that it is going to be self-contained, like some have said. Doesn't mean it will conflict any of the X-films, Origins included, just that it can stand completely on it's own without the story having to reference any of the other films. This is a story of Wolverine when he's on his own. You won't see Prof-X in this film. He and Magneto have their own movies coming soon.

One-off means a self contained story.Unlike Origins which tried to tie Itself to other X-Men films The Wolverine Is simply the WOlverine In japan story. They don't have to address anything else.Wolverine will be only thing thing connecting this to previous films.
After The Wlverine hits Blu-Ray and DVD fans can watch It with their prefered X-Men viewing.

If Hugh jackman plays Wolverine again after this It will be for X4/Days of future past
film Directed by Bryan Singer.
