Clive Barker

The Hellbound Heart
The Scarlet Gospels
Hellraiser (comics, with various spin-offs like Pinhead, Epic Book One, and Book of the Damned)

I've just started reading the Hellbound Heart.

Do I need the comics? I wanted to stick to stuff strictly from the creator's pen...after my experience with much of Marvel's supplemental Dark Tower material.

Just finished the book. Man he has an amazing descriptive vocabulary. "Blood buttered meat." Frigging insane how spooky a few words can be.

There was a post on Clive Barker's Facebook about something called Hellraiser: Heaven's Reply which would involve Pinhead meeting with Kirsty for the last time. Most likely it's a book since the post references the Scarlet Gospels. For some reason, the post was deleted about an hour or two later and there hasn't been a peep about it from Clive's Facebook or Twitter since.

****, I hope someone, somewhere screenshot it. :csad:

Here's the Twitter post itself. The link is dead though. https://***********/RealCliveBarker/status/693477195096952833

There's hardly a peep about it anywhere outside Twitter and the comment section of the now-deleted Facebook post. It's frustrating being a fan of a relatively obscure horror franchise sometimes. There's such an information blackout.

I just want to go on record that I'm worried about Clive. He was so active on social media and I haven't seen any recent appearances. I know his health has been an issue for awhile which makes me all the more worried.

I still haven't recovered from Wes Cravens passing.

Was he ever really active? I thought he had someone else running them.

Yes, he was extremely active. It was actually Clive interacting with his fans on facebook and twitter. Now he's never on.

I'm in the middle of Imajica right now, and it's making me realise how disappointed I was with Scarlet Gospels. It's an O.K book, but compared to some of these earlier works, it just doesn't stand up.

I've read the theory a few times now, that he may have, for health reasons, passed the book on to someone else to write and that's how it does feel. The differences between Imajica, Weaveworld, Hellbound Heart, Thief of Always - and many of his other books - compared to Scarlet Gospels feels significant enough.

And of course reading the concern of you all in here over his inactivity - though maybe we can hope he's just hard at work on a new book! - makes me wonder if he did get to a point where he wanted done with the book and passed it on to someone else.

It felt, at times, like a Clive Barker novel but there were shifts during the book that didn't always match up. You'd get an extremely well written chapter that caught your interest, and then it felt off. :loco: Maybe I'm going mad, though. It's just, Imajica is so good as is Weaveworld that I find it hard to conceive the same writer wrote those two books, and many others I absolutely adore, and went on to write Scarlet Gospels which - again - is O.K, but is just not near to the same imagination as the previous works.

Well, at least we have so many works to enjoy. Until I see a current picture of Clive I will maintain somethings up. I'm sure the coma he was in took a lot out of him and my have resulted in some significant challenges.

Exactly what I was saying today. I think, unfortunately, he has had a fair few ups and downs the past few years so it's only to be expected - but hopefully, everything is O.K.

The rest of his books, however, are great. I wouldn't be surprised if, by the end of it, he just got fed up with The Scarlet Gospels, overall, too, and illness probably took its toll on that one.

Ok, ticket bought for Atlanta. I hope Clive is in good health and the weather behaves. January is notorious for being a but-head when it comes to snow.

Hotel room and air fair purchased. I'm super excited, and this will be my sons first horror con. I hope he likes it.
A little worried about the weather and the TSA situation.
