Clive Owen as James Bond?

Mr. Vice said:
HELL NO!!!

that's the best response to this thread i've seen.
clive owen may be able to pull it off, but i want to see something different, something that only craig can deliver. Ive always said he would make a good bond ever since layer cake..just grittier

No simply because Clive while a good actor is not as good as Craig and I also think he is too soft looking. Acting wise he is good, but he is not great, I think Daniel could become a very great actor. He has been in a lot of movies and I took note of him before I even knew he was. Craig is the real deal and has got his roles through his acting abillities and not on looks and popularity like MANY actors do these days!

One word: Respect

I think he looks much tougher then any other people that was up for the role!

Yes those BMW commerical/movies made him out to be a bond type which sold me as him being bond.

Then in Guy Ritchies BMW short film commentary he said he wanted veer away from being a bond wannabe and made Clive Owens more of a trouble maker

The only thing Clive has going for him is that he can pull off the stereotypical "look" of Bond and thats about it. Craig has a more unique and distinguishable presence and imo is the better actor.

Owen is a great actor, and that's undeniable. Even if Craig did a bad job (I'm hopeful he doesn't, and I'm psyched for the movie), there will be another actor that plays the role. The Bond legacy will run as long as the US presidency, so who cares if we get a few Jimmy Carters every now and then? :)

clive would look great as bond
craig looks ugly as bond

but as for acting....i dunno....i'm givn craig a chance....i'l decide after i watch da movie

I wouldn't say he is a great actor!

I wanted Owen from the beginning, and I'm really upset he didn't get the part. I'm willing to give Craig a chance (I've never actually seen one of his films, so I can't judge him on acting), but from what I've seen of him, he doesn't screm James Bond to me.

A couple of his movies his acting was not that great in, King Arthuer was one and there were a couple scenes in Beyone Boarders where is acting was not that strong.

Owen's great but I don't find his "look" all that different from Craig's.

Yeah, Clive Owen seems born for it, IMO. In addition to his looks, he has a formidable screen presence.

Dig Craig though, I think he'll do a fine job.

Rent "Closer" and tell me that again.

I'm not anti-Craig by any means, but for a long time people have been saying "If you've seen Layer Cake, you know that Craig could make for a good Bond". Well, I think if you've seen "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", you'll realize Clive Owen would make a good Bond too. Either way, both actors are talented.

On a side note, "Layer Cake" is a more entertaining film than "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead", which I think is a slow-moving thriller.

This is not a Casino Royale spoiler and should be closed. I wish someone else was Bond yes...but lets give Craig a chance shall we? The trailer looks great and I am sure they movie will be awesome. No one can do anything to change our new Bond so please quit griping about the choice of actors...you have no control over any of this.

Owen was the ideal choice for Bond. Craig is just sort of "meh". Hopefully once Craig is replaced in a movie or two Owen will accept the role.

I've seen that film but and again his acting is not all that great. Craig has impressed me from the vareity of his roles and they way he has portrayed his character. I remember seeing "Road to Perdition" and thinking that this guy was a very very good actor.

Clive is more popular then Craig but popularity dosen't make great actors in my opinion!

yeah craig was as popular as stuart steen or bruce baron.... that's a good thing ( For those who unfortunately have seen these two guys, you know what I mean... )

I think it's good they went with someone slightly out of the Bond norm. Owen just looks like another Bond, Lazenby in particular. And that just leads down the path of it going sour after two or three movies. Craig is bringing something brand new to the series, which needs some new juice after 21 movies. Like Jason Goes To Hell's view point, there are 20 movies that you can watch and see suave, sexy bond stop a world domination plot and sleep with 4 women, Let's try something new.

I don't think one actor could single-handedly destroy the Bond legacy. Even if no one likes Craig in the future, people will still want to see more Bond, it'll continue.

Well, the most famous crisis in the bond franchise ( the 1969 one ) didn't kill the franchise. Lazenby has everyone ( from the tabloid to the general public ) against him. but Bond survived.

So Craig in himself won't kill the franchise.

I'm pretty sure that the general audience won't accept him, but he will be soon forgotten.

The problems that may damage the franchise are the stupid restart and the fact that Brosnan won't come back to rescue the franchise like Connery did in 1970 / 1971 ( he will be way to old )

Yeah, cause Diamonds Are Forever is such an amazing movie :o Had Connery not returned, and had the public not been stupid, Diamonds would have been a much better movie, continueing right where OHMSS left off, instead of the crap that was DOF.

I have never said anything about DAF quality. Of course, diamond are forever is lame. It's the worst Bond with Connery. I would have loved to see a DAF more in continuity with OHMSS.

It would have been so much cooler if Bond was like in the you only live twice novel.

But well, after a great opening, DAF turned to crap. But It wasn't Connery's fault. After the OHMSS failure, the producer decided to enlighten the next movie.
The public had not been stupid, he simply had not understood what they wanted to do with OHMSS. There has been to much change in one movie, especially the end.
OHMSS is the only movie where the bad guy ( Blofeld ) has the last word and took his revenge.
They had in mind the bond who has never lost.

But it partly is Connery's fault.. Actors get a chance to read the script, actors have their say, and if they feel it's dumb, they don't have to do it. Connery did it and made an ass out of himself.
