'Brilliant' Bond seduces critics - bbc.co.uk

True. I wouldn't be as excited if it wasn't for the non-published fan reviews on sites like CBN and their message boards. I trust their opinion more than these published sources, and they've given me no reason to expect anything than something great.

The Mirror also called The World is Not Enough the best Bond ever, and gave Tomorrow Never Dies a rave review. The tabloids will recommend anything with babes and explosions in it.

Yeah but TND and Brosnan didn't have the same amount of haters and sceptics that CR and Craig have had, so, as a Bond/CR/Craig fan this is great news to me.

Can't wait! The REAL Bond is back! Read it and weep you Craig naysaying idiots!

Seriously, Craig haters made fanboys look worse then we already do.

Yeah. Remeber when Kirsten Dunst called out fanboys here on the hype on live tv, I thought that fanboyism had reached an all time low but the haters for craig and cr took it to a whole new stratusphere (sp?)

For what its worth, the movie got a standing ovation at its premiere. For a British crowd, thats saying something.

Sounds awesome. In all honesty I am looking forward more to the film than the new actor. The film is by Campbell (director of the second best Bond film in the franchise) and is the first Connery-esque Bond movie since....well Connery and features a plot based on the best of the Bond novels and has Eva Green playing the pivatol role of Vesper to seal the deal.

The reviews just seal that this is going to be a great Bond flick.

As for Craig, well he may have the "Rough Bond" down but I'll still need some convincing on the smooth operator. And whether he can top Brosnan remains to be seen for me, BUT I am HIGHLY dubious of the Daily Mail's claim that he is a better actor (okay maybe not that part) and Bond than Connery. That's a high mark to beat really.

We will have to wait until the next film to see if he can be the classic Bond playboy. He seems to be wildely held as a very good actor, so I think he will.

I don't think Connery can ever be surpassed as the best Bond. It would take at least 5 near perfect efforts from Craig and company to get people to even consider it.

Can't wait to read The Daily Mail film critic Chris Tookey's review on friday - his reviews are always ludicrous. Alarmist and ultra-conservative, he goes into films looking for a moral outrage. I still have his Batman & Robin review, where he claimed the movie would turn kids into gay bikers.

The only actor who hasn't played Bond like Connery is Roger Moore.

I'd agree. Lazenby was a poor man's attempt at being Connery. Dalton tried to be Connery but serious and Brosnan infused all 3 previous Bonds into his performance with a little of his own charm and interrpretation of the character (he is fractured but he hides it and drowns it in sex and liquor as opposed to Dalton who wore it on his shoulder ready to pop every scene).

Craig looks like he'll give a great performance but I'll need a little more convincing this is the same screen Bond in the sequel I think.

This movie can't come out soon enough.:csad:

The best part of these movies is the anticipation. That's when the movie is best - before you've actually seen it.

I agree, 100%. When it's over, it will feel like you have no purpose in life.

"If Die Another Day seemed like euthanasia, Casino Royale is a miracle recovery" - The Hip Pimple

“Craig has done more with Bond in one film than some previous stars have in multiple reprises. This is terrific stuff, again positioning 007 as the action franchise to beat.” = Empire

"Bond goes back to basics in his best outing since GoldenEye and perhaps ever." - mansized.co.uk

ANd how about this, from MSN:

"Craig has all the makings of the best Bond yet. He has the swagger and the style perfected by Connery along with the sophistication of Moore. But what he really brings to the table is the sheer nastiness written into Ian Fleming's original character that was only hinted at by Timothy Dalton. Besides a 'cold soul' (put through the ringer by his romance with Eva Green), Craig looks like he could hand out beatings to Bourne, Bauer and every previous Bond with little more than the use of his little finger. This is perhaps the first Bond that we can feel genuinely scared of."

Good grief-!

I can't f***ing wait for this movie.

But what I can wait for is all the people who will bash Craig because "Bond doesn't have blond hair"! Or "Craig is too short!" Even after seeing the movie.

Yeah, the 'Too short/blonde' criticism is appearing in curiously few reviews of the movie. It's almost like it's irrelevent. ;)

You know, back in 1962, people complained that James Bond, the ultimate Englishman, was being played by a Scotsman. Who has ever since been the definitive Bond. Atleast Craig can say that he is actually English.

It's good to see Daniel Craig getting early support from the critics. However, it's been common practice to claim the next Bond is the best Bond and so on and so forth. Fortunately for Bond fans, we've seen each actor bring something new to the table and continue the legacy of James Bond 007. That's why Bond endures.

Yeah but Bond was crap throughout the 80s. Partly due to the new breed of action hero i.e. the Stallones, Willis, Norris, Ahnold and of course Van Dam.
I think Bond has been given the neccessary reinvention without making dramatic changes that deter from the aesthetics of what Bond has always been.

I don't think Bond was crap at all during the 1980's. Sir Roger Moore delivered two of his best performances as James Bond in For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy and finalized his tenure with A View To A Kill.

At a time when the "larger than life/no bullets can harm me/never run out of ammo" action star was running rampant, Timothy Dalton brought Bond back to his roots. His chracterization of Bond is the template that Brosnan and Criag used to mold their portrayals. They have the cool charm and wit of Connery and Moore, but they both seem to have the edge Dalton brought to the character in the 80's.

I see what you're saying. Octopussy and AVTAK were garbage imo. Come on beach boys song whilst Bond is skiying away fom some cronies was just eye-rollingly painful and that silly scene with Bond trying to hitch a ride, the car slows down and as Bond nears the car, they drive off? Unacceptable. That sort of crap shouldn't happen to Bond.

Not to mention the gorilla costume and the clown-ing around. Ugh. Octopussy and A View to a Kill are not good times for me.

I´ll tell you, this is the most excited I been about a Bond movie in years. I been feeling for a long time the franchise had become a prisoner of its formula and needed a serious reinvention.
