Colin Farrell IS The Penguin

Yea Darkest Hour is a good makeup/prosthetic job, but Gary Oldman is still recognizable. For the life of me, I cannot see Colin Farrell in there at all.

I agree with you about Heath Ledger. Even though he doesn’t have nearly as much makeup on as Farrell or Oldman (mostly just facepaint and the prosthetic scars), he really disappears into the role, and it sounds nothing like him either.
Ehh I find it sounds exactly like him when he’s doing an American accent. That’s the only thing that gave it away for me.

EDIT: oops I read that too fast lol. You meant Heath’s voice.

I wonder if they are gonna do the Iceberg Lounge... it seems like a perfect way to establish his criminal enterprise by making it a club for gangsters.

I think if he's on the rise, that may not be a thing yet. Maybe he's trying to build it now, and could be something in later movies if he returns.

I noticed the meeting Penguin was at was outside Gotham Sanitation. Perfect criminal front like the Sopranos. I'm loving the adherence to the noir and crime aspects of the movie. It's grounded but elevated at the same time. Reminds me of the logic used in the Raimi Spider-Man films.

i feel they are using some real life al capone influence on this version of penguin.
the scarred look, and probably him trying to take over the city with brute violence.

Agreed. Also, I'm assuming that the shot of Batman in the rain is from that scene? I mean, it could be.

yea and like capone, penguin's gonna try to portray himself as a legit businessman.
wearing nice designer suits and tuxes.
but it barely hides that he's just a violent thug.

I hope they put a "weird" twist on the Penguin and dont let it be just a mobster, even if its just a subtle one, i want him to see do weird things with birds and having a tragic backstory, that kind of thing, not too extreme but something.
Honestly i am a little tired of the "grounded" approach, it fits Batman and i am not saying to go all out supernatural but i would like them to see lean i little on the weird side of that whole universe, Batman has such a freakish rogue gallery and i feel like we have not seen that explored enough because of that "realistic" approach we got for the last years.
Also, the work they did on Farrel is amazing, but makes me wonder why they just did not picked an actor that looks more like that? I swear that with that make up he looks very very similar to another actor that i cannot remember the name.

Because acting is not just about looks. The most important aspect of acting is use of your eyes, your physicality, and the little nuances in your expressions and voice. That is why Colin was cast. Then they changed his face to match the character.

now in motion!

The pointy, beak-like nose wasn't as apparent to me when I first saw the trailer. The makeup is already brilliant enough in how transformative it is, but the fact that it's also very similar to his look in the comics (monocle, cigarette holder and other such trappings notwithstanding) is very appreciated. I agree with @DarkSup that I hope he has a weird fixation on birds and an interest in ornithology. It's just another thing that helps the Penguin stand out as a mostly grounded but still very enjoyably bizarre villain.

Will Penguin have a more action oriented role? We haven’t seen Penguin be able to give Batman a hard time in a one on one before. That would be really cool.

Well from what we see there's a shootout with Penguin and his gang, and it looks like a car chase. I doubt he's a physical hand-to-hand kind of role.
