STARZ'S COMIC BOOK SPECIAL

Starz has provided The Continuum with a preview of its Hollywood Reporter special, Comic Books on Film, which debuts on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

The half-hour special is part of Starz's When Comic Books Attack marathon.

After a quick introduction through the history of comic-book films, the special is essentially broken into six chapters. The first four feature the big franchises -- X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman and Superman. The fifth focuses on the difficulty of bringing female lead characters to the big screen, and the sixth spotlights graphic novels, and such films as Sin City, V for Vendetta and Road to Perdition. Among those interviewed are Anna Paquin, Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Tobey Maguire, Sam Raimi, Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Brandon Routh, Natalie Portman and James McTeigue.

Stewart admits "there are doors left ajar" in terms of the X-Men franchise, while Jackman reaffirms his commitment to a Wolverine film. "I still feel there's more to explore," Jackman said. Most of the interviews are from press events surrounding the film's releases and don't really break new ground. The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit, Sheigh Crabtree and Gregg Kilday offer their perspectives.
