I like how they've mixed it up with a few "serious" storylines...

Mixing it up with some realistic issues keeps the characters "grounded" and prevents them from becoming a bunch of over the top caricatures.

And can I say...Alison Brie can sing?! She's now moved past Gillian Jacobs for me.

For now.

i disagree so, to each his own. they are over-the-top caricatures from day one. that's the premise of the show.

Yeah, they've been over the top since day one. Unlike the characters from The Office where they started off real but morphed into cartoon characters.

Really? Personally, I never found them to be over-the-top especially during the earlier part of Season 1.

Especially Britta, there was nothing over the top about her.

I think for me in regards of these more serious episodes its just kind of, okay so we've seen these characters at their most ridiculous...now lets start seeing them indepth and see what makes them tick.

So to speak.

I think every character on the show has been heavily affected by divorce. Troy, Abed, Pierce (numerous times), Shirley, Chang, Annie. Britta and Jeff definitely had issues with their parents not sure if they were divorced. Remember the episode when Jeff moves in with Abed and how he said TV was a better parent. I don't think Annie's parents being divorced was mentioned previously.

Jeff mentioned admiring his Mother's divorce lawyer in the Drew Carey episode.

Wait a minute, everyone character in this show has been affected by divorce like every character in Lost was affected by a bad father? This truly is Lost's replacement.

"No, it's a metaphor. It represents the lack of pay off.

When the group is on Planet Abed, there's a snowman spying on them. Chang ?

you mean, the ultra-modern feminist, buzz-kill, debbie downer? you're joking right?

there is nothing wrong with the characters. in fact, that's why i love the show.

It's always good when they can get John Oliver so involved in an episode.

I'm on the halloween episode in the second season, man what a hilarious episode!

 I couldn't believe they did zombies with Abba hahahha

Caught up with the episodes now, the stop-motion really made the christmas episode special and it had some touchy moments too.

Not one of my favorite episodes. But I DO despise Christmas, so...... there's that.

He couldn't have picked better songs to plug from the OST. :hrt::heart::heart::up: That article is exactly how I feel about the show.

Im calling ******** on that article as soon as I saw "Among the members of this study group is Abed, a young adult with Asperger’s syndrome " Abed doesn't ACTUALLY have Asperger's. He's just odd lol

Maybe, but it's still a thoughtful article. Keep in mind, we know from our omniscient viewpoint that Aved is a genius, because he's the only person who seems to know they are all fictional characters in a TV show. But Jeff, Britta et al. have no such knowledge, so in their universe Abed indeed must have some sort of intellectual disability, because of his behaviour. It's not like there's a blood test you can do to determine if someone has Asperger's in real life.

Who knows, maybe we're all in a fictional world right now, and the people we callously dismiss as being mentally ill or disabled actually see the truth that we cannot.
