First off I have seen the movie and it is great and I can't wait to go see it again but this time on the IMAX.

There are no major spoilers here but be careful what you read I may slip.

Superman leaves and Lois is pretty mad and she seems to have moved on not too long after Superman leaves. Well how do you replace Superman? Who could fill his shoes? Well when you watch the movie look for some similarities between Superman/Clark and Richard. Here are a few I noticed.

1. Superman flies - Richard owns a plane.

2. there is a scene with Superman and Lois where Superman shows his sense of humor. - There is also a scene with Lois and Richard where Richard shows his sence of humor.

3. Obviously both men love Lois and they show it throughout the movie.

4. Both men work at the Daily Planet.

5. Superman saves the world and is always saving Lois. Richard does not save the world but he does go to great lengths to save Lois and Jason. So I would say both are pretty heroic.

6. Superman/Clark and Richard are both very friendly guys and you can see they care about the people around them.

Now there are probably more but it seemed like they almost made Richard what Superman would be like if he had no powers. Of course this could be just my opinion but when you see the movie look for the similarities.

i'm sure Richard was meant to be what Superman could've been if he were an actual human. that's what gives it some great drama, Superman probably sees a lot of himself in Richard and it makes it that much harder for him to persue Lois because he know how great of a guy Richard is...

That Why Lois fell in love with richard while Sups was away, because Richard was just like Clark/Sups . But we all know that When Clark Kent/SUPERMAN returns, not even Richard White could keep Lois from Her away Man .

Looks like Richard is some kind of human Superman to Lois, but still he isn't Superman.

It is sad that he will probably become supervillian in sequel as Metallo.

Richard is like the human version of Superman, i doubt he would ever become a villian.

I feel like the only one who hasn't see this movie now :(

He still needs to bite it in one of the sequels. I don't doubt he's a nice guy, but I don't think there is a need for Lois to have two Supermen in her life...especially when the real deal is already there :) Also the real Superman is the baby's daddy. He left and that's a shame, but he's back, so Richard needs to go.

hmmm.... seems like the character of Richard is what Cyclops could've been.

Which is Why, She didn't get married to him . She still loves her MAN OF STEEL .:supes:

How is it getting mushy? LOL...is it because some people are stating that Mardsen has a chance highlight his acting abilities.

On a side note, I always thought he got the shaft in the X-Men trilogies because of Hugh Jackman. Unfortunately, it looks like this will happen here as well, but at least he will get a better chance to shine both professionally and movie wise.

Obviously, Richard is a good dude. He's a good father, and there is nothing wrong with him. However, there doesn't need to be two Supermen in Metropolis...figuratively speaking of course.

which interview?

i wouldn't worry about what cinemaman said. how could marsden know where the character's going? they haven't even written returns2 yet, and i really doubt singer would do that. plus marsden was probably joking. i bet he'll die heroically a somepoint, but metallo should always be john corbin. u can't make an uber good character go bad all of the sudden.

I think they might kill off Richard in the sequel, but I hope they don't because it's way too predictable. I just can't imagine what they'll do with him in the sequel. Lois leading him on, when she loves someone else and isn't telling him that Jason's father is back would just be awful behavior. Maybe they should introduce a love interest for Richard as a B/C plot, so losing Lois is less of a blow. A female version of Clark Kent.

That would be cool, but...uhh...then he's a philander.

The interesting thing about this is because Richard is the psuedo Superman, we have to be careful about how we treat his character.

Whichi is why a heroic death is a good thing...MAN...if he dies saving Superman that's even more awesome:up:

No, no he wouldn't be a philanderer because the female Clark Kent wouldn't be making a move until Lois called it off. Heroic death is probably what they'll do though. And I like your saving Superman's life idea. It's likely better than what they'll come up with. One thing I'm worried about is that Lois won't tell him that the baby's Superman's which is a really terrible thing to do.

I didn't come up with the saving Superman's life idea, though I wish I did. That's the awesome!!! I forget who said it but they did and that honor is thiers.

But...again...bringing in Lana or any other woman or man for Clark or Lois is crazy because there is a child involved at this point. I mean, how soap-opera does this need to get?

We just dont' need more, and another woman for Richard (while nice) is unnecessary for the general story, IMO.

My question...why is everyons so concerned with the fate of Richard? Yeah, we care, but uh....he is not Superman. He could die like Chloe Sullivan could die tomorrow and things would be alright in Superman's universe.

I know character concern is great, but what makes these particular characters so great????:O

In my mind, what makes Richard a little different is that he has raised Jason for five years. He's not the typical secondary character.

Jason draws a picture of Superman flying and he is holding onto Lois, who the kid labels mommy, and she is holding onto Richards hand, who he labled Dad and Richard has a hold of Jason's hand, who he lables me. It pretty much shows Superman rescuing them and flying them to safety and Jason gives the picture to Lois. So in the kids eye's Richard is his Dad and I don't see that really changing.
