I'm tellin y'all....Ray Stevenson is the man for the job!
Well, if Friday the 13th proved anything, it's that Nispel is fully capable of making a horrible movie with bad actors, so I wouldn't expect any brilliant casting choices for Conan. I want it to be good though, I really do.
Still, I fail to understand how mediocre-to-awful directors keep getting thrown properties with actual potential. It's like studios think, "Gee, you made some crappy movies... sounds like you're the right man for the job to run a franchise into the ground!" Nispel made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake (decent), Pathfinder (didn't see it but I'll take everyone's word on it that it was atrocious) and F13 (pigsh** deep-fried in turpentine and served on a non-biodegradable styrofoam plate).
1 out of 3 movies were watchable (and even that's debatable depending on who you talk to) and they throw this guy the Conan franchise? It's better than Ratner I guess, but I'm still dumbfounded how this dude landed the job. It makes me wonder if they have no faith in this movie at all.

One name that the fandom at the Robert E. Howard Official Website keep suggesting, alongside Kevin Durand, is Paul Telfer.

Before 300 and Watchmen, Zack Snyder also made a "so,so/decent" film with the Dawn of The Dead remake. So, let's wait and see.
I first saw Pathfinder in the theatres and found it very mediocre. A month ago I rented the extended cut and I somehow found it a little more enjoyable.
There's been 11 Friday/ Jason films. There's only so much you can really do to make a new one unique and different and keep that particular fan base happy. I think Nispel did quite good with what he had.
Conan stories start in his Teens, so I don't want some smooth-faced pretty boy, but I don't want a guy with grey beard stubble trying to pass as a young man either. As stated before, Conan should be cast to age with the role.
Eh, he looks alright, just needs some Blue contacts like Routh.
I guess it depends on how you personally envision Conan. My ideal Conan isn't some hunky heart throb, but rather a guy who looks like he has experience tearing people to shreds.
The problem I had with F13 was that it felt like they didn't even TRY to do anything interesting with it. The opening sequence where Jason "hears" his mother tell him to avenge her was mildly interesting, but other than that... meh. I think that the film could have been okay if they had just given us ONE character that was well-developed or worth rooting for, but they didn't. And since Jason himself is just a mindless killer, he's not really intriguing enough to root for either. You can blame the other movies for this I guess, but I think that better writers and a better director might have been actually able to make a worthy movie out of F13.
Hey, he's not Supes anymore,
The following is from the same poster:The following is from a poster at imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0816462/board/thread/143099836?d=143687591&p=1#143687591
It is a perfectly neutral sign.
The director has only been aboard for weeks. NO movie has anything of importance to announce that early on.
What should they announce?
"The biggest news is that we have hired a local gaffer company in Romania to do sets, and half of the crew will be romanian, right now we are in contact with a local agency to make sure we get talented people. Also, we have been able to find lodging for most of the crew, but are looking outside of town to house the rest. We've limited the number of available catereres down to two possibilites, but won't make a final decisison until we are there.
In terms of what you fans might care about, the casting director is working of finding potential actors for the lead roles, auditioniong is scheduled to commence next week - no clue who will play Conan as of now. The script is still being tweaked, I hope it'll be done by the time camera's roll, though it may not be."
Yesh, comic con is an opportunity missed, but the director was simply locked TOO LATE for them to have enough preproduction to annnounce anything of consequence.
Hold Brillan!
Give it time, Balthus. There are many different Conan stories that would make an awesome movie in themselves. I'd rather have a series of movies based on the plots Howard has already created, than an partial Howard/ screenwriter original stories amalgamation like the first two Conan films.
