Got a real bad feeling about this.........

who's Conan's arch enemy? and is he in the character breakdown?

I wonder if there's any truth to the Wiki rumor that Brandon Routh is being considered for Conan. It sounds like he fits the physical description of what they're looking for.

Thoth-Amon is his nemesis in the stories.

I'm not cool with them doing the "Last of the Cimmerians" angle again after the first movie. I really like the Dark Horse series, and would like to see something much closer to what Howard intended. In which the Cimmerians were always a non-extinct people.

Also the "last of" is retreading the avenging son cliche..........which in and of itself is not bad in general, but it is unnecessary for Conan.

The original stories and comic stories are full of fresh ideas, we don't need to retread a bastardized characterization. He doesn't need a Thulsa-Doom in this either.

They say the new one plans to bring an army of undead warriors or something to Earth, which I do like, as while I like the stories where he's just fighting normals, a little supernatural element don't hurt.

Amen.

Actually, it is Jared Padalecki(Supernatural, Friday The 13th) who has been strongly considered, according to sources.

Oh boy, sounds like somebody didnt read REH and is basing his Conan on the Milius movie.

Hurm...so they're essentially regurgitating the story from Arnie's Conan?

This true? Which sources? That is awesome news!

In the Solomon Kane forums at the Robert E. Howard site, Solomon Kane co-producing company Wandering Star stated that rumors that Padalecki was being considered were true. Paradox is looking for someone in that age frame.

For the life of me I cannot see either Jared Padalecki or Brandon Routh as Conan.

I can see Brandon in the part easy but they gotta scar him up a bit. He looks alot closer to Conan than Arnold ever did.

Well, physically, they resemble Robert E. Howard's Conan more than some 'roid monkey like Arnold ever did. Conan is supposed to be Panther like, not a gorilla.

Routh is too nice looking for Conan. Padalecki on the other hand does have bit more of a brooding vibe.

In the comics.............Howard's stories had no classic "arch enemy".

No, Thoth-Amon was a regularly occurring threat later in the novels. Thulsa Doom and Wrarrl the Devourer of Souls were more prominent in the comics.

But do Brandon Routh and Jared Padalecki really give off a strong, masculine warrior from another time & place vibe the way Arnold did?

Padalecki can be pretty menacing on Supernatural, and who knows what Routh could pull off.
