Seriously, this movie is going to blow. Those backgrounds for Conan are straight out of A'nold's movie. Why can't they just go with the books or Graphic novels instead of this crappy rendition?

The facial area in this pic he looked pretty rugged with the facial hair and work to the hair.

Well, if this film sucks, at least we'll have Solomon Kane to fall back on. Still, let's hope this is something that's been scrapped and are already re-working the story.

I'm sorry... this guy:

Please... Sure, his in good shape but Conan? No way.

NOBODY looks like that. Somebody who knows more can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can get insanely strong just lifting weights if you do it right and long enough, but a bodybuilder's physique is another level entirely.

It requires a strict diet, an exact exercise regimen, etc. Nobody who spends his life travelling the wilderness is going to look like that. Big and strong aren't necessarily the same things. And of course, there's the fact that though bodybuilding existed back then, no one back then looked like today's bodybuilders, so why would Howard envision something like that art?

Besides, Howard at one point called Conan "sinewy." Look it up and see if it makes you think of Arnold. People's perception of Conan is largely influenced more by Arnold and Frazetta than Howard's words.

Here is a thread with more knowledgeable Conan fans than I:

Oh, c'mon, Gilmore Girls dude is too pretty for Conan.

I believe there was also a "Young Conan" character description, perhaps he is considered for that.

I hear you, I was just pointing out that Jared has the physique, but not "the look" for Conan. i meant his face to be exact. He's too pretty. I always envisioned Conan with a more flat nose, like in Frazetta's art, but mostly the way he's depicted in Conan comics. Can't find a good picture tho.

I always thought Charles Bronson had a Conan look about him. An honorably savage countenance.

Most dudes that have taken roles in movies where they are the big action guy usually are pretty boys to an extent. Comic book superheroes and characters in these stories, like Tarzan, are perfect specimens looks-wise.

Too bad he's already Bond.

I can see Brandon in the part easy but they gotta scar him up a bit. He looks alot closer to Conan than Arnold ever did.

Well, physically, they resemble Robert E. Howard's Conan more than some 'roid monkey like Arnold ever did. Conan is supposed to be Panther like, not a gorilla.

Could you guys please post pics --or links-- of this Conan version you're talking about? :yay: I'm very curious

And speaking of Tarzan........Mike Henry, who played Tarzan had a Conan look also

Sorry, but he is a better fit for REH's Conan than some 'roid monkey who cannot do dialogue, or some 45-55 year old crusty old guy past his prime.

And honestly, using at that awesome Frazetta picture as a comparison, you really mean to tell me he doesn't look the part? "Please" indeed, bud...

Well, you know, wheatered... ***** it, can't find any good pictures to demonstrate. And I guess it doesn't matter, since it's going to be a younger Conan in this one anyway.

In most of REH's Conan stories, he falls from anywhere between 18-40. You can't really have some guy 10 years away from collecting Social Security playing the part.

There are no pictures of how REH described Conan. Even Frazetta's Conan's not as REH described him but rather his interpretation of a barbarian warrior. If you want a picture of Conan you have to go read REH's books.

He's not Arnold. He's described as dark, flattened nose, scarred face, deep of chest covered in hair. Tall and lithe as a panther from a life of climbing, running, archery and sailing. He's most decidedly not huge, he's tall but many times in the books he meets people way bigger and stronger than he is. Conan's agile, quick and has a genius level intellect, that's his real power.

Think in terms of functional strength, like Batman or Bond.

I wonder back in the day if the internet was relevant, if Arnold would get the "Meathead" comments that Triple H does, this is one guy who's always wanted to be Conan and if he auditions well enough I am all for it.

I like HHH, but he's everything that is wrong with casting these kind of roles.

Frazetta didn't paint bodybuilders as Conan. I don't see today's bodybuilders at all through Frazetta's paintings. Boris Vallejo tends more toward the classical bodybuilder as barbarian since he uses them as models. Frazetta's work more closely resembled a man built up through living that kind of life than what a bodybuilder might resemble in the classical sense. A body builder like Arnold wouldn't be able to move fast enough or be agile enough to match what a sword and knife fighter would do as described by Howard.

Re: Jared P as Conan. I'm a big fan of supernatural but i wouldn't want him to play Conan.
He's fine with action scens and what have you, but his character in the show is still an earnest well meaning kid type, and I fear when he steps out of that comfort zone he won't be beleivable.
Reason why i think this is, there was one ep of supernatural where he gets real drunk and belligerant, and his acting was woeful, he didn't quite know how to not be 'nice' if you know what I mean.

He would be fine with Conan the gentleman not Barbarian. Even then with conan's gentler moments, I still don't think I'd buy him as a barbarian warrior type, he is good at what he does in SPNL though.

He was Singer's second choice for Superman btw. that's a part he would've been more suited to.
