Apparently, some people think that grunting into a microphone about how they're going to beat someone up, and/or play-fighting equates a capable actor.

...but you see, the problem with this is that the result will not be "Conan". It will be "Dwayne Johnson playing Conan". We need a relative unknown so he can loose himself in the role like Daniel Craig did with James Bond and Christian Bale with Batman.

Again that is why I stated that I thought that Dwayne Johnson would be a perfect fit. He has proven time and time again that he can do other then grunt. He is a very capable actor and I think he would be a good fit for the character. Arnold even suggested that he take over the mantle of Conan.

What I'm getting at is that he's already too much of a superstar. Arnold at the time he did Conan he was very popular in the bodybuilding circuit, but not that much on film. So that was good. Also, while Arnold did a decent job on Conan, he's take on it is one that has alot to improve upon, so he's definately not the high authority on who should play the role next.

You are right, in terms of getting Conan Arnold missed the mark but he does have somewhat of an understanding of the character. Johnson has made each role he has done his own. I don't think he is a super star. People know who he is but I think he hasn't been able to shake the wrestling persona because people just can't excpet that he isn't The Rock anymore.

I just want a capable actor who can bulk up and get fit for it. He doesn't already have to have God wrestler like muscles. And i seriously think people will be disapointed if they cast a guy who is "too skinny" for him. I don't need nor want to see a wrestler sized Conan. I'm not talking Michael Keaton kind of casting, just someone who is just capable and has confidence.

You are commenting that wrestlers should play Conan? He's not some roided out giant. He's not even that big, he is tall, agile and lithe as a panther, he's not huge. Arnold's portrayal of Conan is pretty much the opposite of Conan yet it's what people who have never read REH think is Conan.

Have you ever actually seen a wrestling match? Not all wrestlers are giant, juiced up, roid monkeys. Even the larger ones are far more agile than many people give them credit for. I mean have you ever seen Scott Steiner wrestle back in the 80s & 90s? Or Mike Awsome from ECW? A 280 lbs super-heavyweight who moves like a cruiserweight. Sounds like Conan to me.

Kevin Sorbo as Hercules wasn't that bulky. I know that was more of Sam Raimi's campy take, but you get what I mean. If this is a new interpretation, he doesn't need to be gigantic, just in shape.

Kevin Sorbo might not be as huge as Lou Ferrigno when Lou was playing Hercules back in the early 80s. But he is still pretty big compared to a lot of other actors. Having an actor with a Kevin Sorbo type physique play Conan would totally be okay by me. Also, Frank Frazetta always draws Conan as being pretty big. Being in shape for the role is important, but a certain amount of size is too. Marc Singer is in fantastic physical condition and is an expert martial artist, which made him perfect in the role of Beastmaster. He'd be all wrong for Conan though. Ryan Reynolds is in great physical condition, has been since Blade Trinity, but he's totally wrong for a Conan reboot (might be okay for a Beastmaster reboot though).

To answer your question, yes I have seen a wrestling match but it's gotta be more than 20 years now. I still don't think any of those roid monkeys could do it though, non of them even have the build to match Conan. Conan is not Arnold, nor is he Roland Kickenger or any other muscle head you may wish him to be.

20 years ago, most wrestlers were total juice monkeys back then. And most guys like that did very little acrobatic type stuff. Even in their prime, Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior rarely got their asses airborn. Today we've got guys like Mike Awsome and The Undertaker doing suicide dives and shooting star presses.

So who would you prefer to play Conan? Danny Devito?

Can't people be creative with this casting at all? With these type of guys it just seems to be who he looks like the most.

I haven't read the Conan books but if they want to make him work they shouldn't make another Arnold actor or bodybuilder, or wrestler. Yes, he's strong and big, but people can actually bulk up. And they don't need to be ridiculously huge.

Well, I on the other hand think that if they want get away from the Arnold Conan as possible and closer to Robert Howard, Durand is one of the best ways to go. He's definately one of the most potential choices out there.
