Superman Returns Control Crystals (merged)

started a thread on this before, but made the title funky so that there were no spoilers in the titles,,, but it seems that didn't fly, seeing that no one responded.

So, Kitty dropped the control crystals on NK jsut as her and Lex were escaping the doomed construction. Are they lost forever? Those were an Encyclopedia Galactica, as well as being an immortal reconstruction of Jor'el. Are they lost forever, left to float in space with the remains of NK forever?

Or... are they cannon fodder for a sequel? I giant asteroid of kryptonite, with a library of technology and history that Faust would kill for, floating through space. Does that not sound like a set up for a sequel?

its hard to tell. they're either in space with NK, or at the bottom of the atlantic

but, as we saw in STM, the crystals call to him. There is some sort of connection b/w Supes and crystals

I'm sure NK will pop up in the sequel, perhaps with Brainiac seeking out the kryptonian knowledge.

On the other hand, why couldn't Superman just fly up to the asteroid in a radiation suit?

I was thinking more along the lines that NK, becomes Brainiac/Eradicator. The control crystals birthing this artificial intelligence which would be a very corrupted version of Jor'el's hologram technology.

nah, they're definitely still on NK...cuz if they had fallen into the ocean, an even bigger and more devastating crystal formation would have been created. keep in mind, that one continent that lex did manage to build was created from 1 crystal...if the 5 or 6 (i can't remember exactly) that he left over had fallen into the water, there woulda been no more earth left...

assuming they were land-building crystals and not vehicle/weapon ones, of course.

For the comics I think that would be a very kick ass idea, but I dunno about that for the movies.

I think the next film will have either Bizarro (created from Superman's blood) or Brainiac (attracted to our solar system by NK).

Lots of possibilities.

I dispise the idea of Bizarro. Nothing could be more boring and redundant, than superman vs. a lesser copy of himself. The only way Bizarro could work in my mind is if Bizarro (without the name) is a thug, or the climactic weapon in a sequel controlled by Luthor. Basically, think Superman IV, with Spacey's Luthor and a demented Bizarro (played by Routh) as his muscle. Because that is all Bizarro really is, a thug who work for smarter people.


I'd much rather see Brainiac, either the comic version, or the TAS version (which would jive a lot better if NK were to become brainiac)

No, they are not. The crystals will form together to create Brainiac. The ultimate computer from Krypton, containing all the knowlege of the galaxies, and the ability to create weapons, vehicals...anything his brain can concieve.

Seriously, they landed on the kryptonic rock. But I was still pissed as hell that supes didn't get them back. Like, just thinking about that pisses me off even more!!! They only way I accept that is if 'Braniac were to find them in a sequel, and Supes recovers eventually.' But, they'd have to make a sequel b/f that could happen, whoops

Wait a second......wasn't it explained that the crystals grow back? So all the ones stolen from the Fortress would eventually come back wouldn' they?

In Superman 2 that "control center" was basically blown to bits when Supes had his powers taken away and then by the end of the film it seemed to be fine again after he found the green crystal......which by the way wasn't even mentioned or shown in Superman Returns...

Exactly. Superman can fly, you know. And if he were to actually take precautions for once (ie. radiation suit), he could fly around kryptonite.

Going out to new Krypton in space with all of that kryptonite probably wouldn't be the best idea for Supes.

What I'm wondering is how the crystals will become a factor in the storyline for the sequel. Is it possible that some sort of being will find them and then trace their trajectory back to earth? Or that they will be used for their power against Superman?

That's what I thought. They showed the landmass break apart right after the crystals fell. They would have fallen into the sea, if not trapped in the rock. Either way they should have shown it. Another ball dropped.

Again, assuming that they were trapped in the already growing landmass and not floating somewhere else in the sea.

god people, if they fell in the ocean, there would be a second giant island (this one made of salt, crystals take characteristics from their surroundings) forming after NK was tossed into space. HELLO PEOPLE. The crystals needed water in order to grow. I thought that was pretty clearly spelled out.

That, did not happen, so, the crystals are in space with the rest of NK.
