Costume.

yea i am looking very forward to see what they come up with and how it all turns out.

So what visual advantages can you think of that they can achieve via a cg suit compared to what they could do if they used an acual costume.

I just dont understand if just the costume is CG or Ryans face as well. Does GL ever wear a mask?

His face is visible (google it) so there is no reason for it to get CGIed. and yes, Hal wears wears a domino mask. Don't know if it's practical or not.

I have to admit that when I first saw the headline the suit would be cgi, it kind of threw me back. But i'm not really worried about it. In fact I think that there will be an actual costume that he will wear if he's wearing it when there isn't action going on. During the action, the suit would need to be cgi. I also think it's interesting that they could use an actual mask on him but use cgi to make it visible when he skwints, frowns, and makes facial expression like it does in the comics. And this definitely makes me wonder if they will have the white eyes and the green glow from the costume, which would be amazing. I have very high hopes for this. Very cool.

Who is Hal? Someone please school me on this im new to the whole Green lanten saga.

Hal Jordan is the Green Lantern. That's pretty much all you need to know for now.

Any change that takes this movie away from other superhero films, making it different and unique I support fully.

Early designs of this suit were a little too Iron Man esque for my liking so this news is really exciting for me.

A member of this forum who does not know who Hal is? Shocking.

But as I said before, I think the all CGI lantern suit works on a lot of levels. I always thought of the uniform as a hard light projection. Plus it morphs to suit the user's needs (like when it becomes heavy armor). Besides, the logo floats a good 4 inches off the user's chest/rest of the suit. It'll probably react to attacks like a force field in star Trek does, where attacked will slightly glow. It should have a definite look but the costume should always look alive and moving, think of water flowing over the contours of the wearer, but instead it's light, it'll be black, green and white where it needs to be but otherwise constantly flowing.

You can show the signature abs that Green Lantern has without the hindrance of spandex nor the sense of falseness associated with armor.

You can also produce the effect of the lantern insignia after image that hovers over GL's chest (ala Ivan Reis style) as well as the green glowing aura that is always seen surrounding him.

.

It's funny because Silver Knight was the same person who created this thread. Nothing against Silver, but he (or she) asked me about Green Lantern's face and if he wore a mask, I was kinda shocked.

Sorry im brand new to Green Lanten and trying to get to know the character before the movie comes out.

well like i said with the whole motion cap/tracking suit if they are going with that for mask too. they could have it be made out of the same material and have sensors on it and all that. So then like the suit it can be enhanced later with cgi.

The costume being CGI is a good idea, IMO. It makes sense being a product of the ring.

Here's some good Green Lantern Books that can get you catch up with Hal Jordan:
Emerald Dawn and Emerald Dawn II.
Showcase presents Green Lantern Vol 1-4
Green Lantern Archives Vol. 1-6
Green Lantern Chronicles Vol.1-2
Green Lantern: Willworld
Green Lantern Secret Origin
Sinestro Corps
Emerald Twiglight
Emerald Knights
DC:The New Frontier
Green Lantern/Green Arrow:Hard Knock Heroes
Flash/Green Lantern:Brave and the Bold
JLA:Year One
Rage of the red lanterns
episodes and movie to watch that can also get you catch

The Batman The Joining (the ending), Ring Toss, Lost Heroes,
"The Once and Future Thing Part II: Time Warped
Green Lantern: First Flight
Justice League: The New Frontier
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths

maybe he should start with Rebirth or Secret Origins...and then go from there.

As good as the older stories are (Emerald Dawn and such), he should probably read Geoff Johns run especially since it would appear that Johns had an impact on the rewrite. I have this whole run and its fantastic. You can read the Green Lantern stuff without reading the Green Lantern Corps but its much better to read them all.

GL: Rebirth
GLC: Recharge
GLC: To Be A lantern
GL: Revenge of the Green Lanterns
GL: Wanted: Hal Jordan
GLC: The dark side of green
GL: Sinestro corps war vol 1
GL: Sinestro corps war vol 2
GLC: Ring Quest
GL: Secret Origin
GL: Rage of the Red Lanterns
GLC: Sins of the Star Sapphire
GL: Agent orange
GLC: Emerald Eclipse

GL = Green Lantern, GLC = Green Lantern Corps

i hope poni who been scoring some set photos past few days gets lucky and if they are doing any exterior shots with the gray tracking suit on ryan to nab a photo on that.
