Costume.

Also, they really missed the boat by not having the GL logo projected off the suit, like we see in the current comics.

This is just one image, they have to save something for the commercials, trailers, future magazines... the actual movie. We know nothing about this image, it could be an early suit he wears, mid transformation or the actual thing.

If it's on the cover of a well known, read magazine like Entertainment Weekly, shouldn't it be the actual thing?

I think if the costume looks like this in the move thay should call it Ion and not Green lantern.

Mwahaha, imagine trying to explain to the general audience that the Green Lanterns get their powers from a space whale. That'd be something.

But this is just a first look, a teaser, I'm sure as we get closer we will see/learn more. Again, maybe this is the final costume, maybe not.

It's Hal's second skin. It is him. So of course it will be apart of himself. The costume from the comics looked like something you could slip on. It didn't look alien. Which it is suppose to be. The costume didn't look like a uniform. It's only called a uniform. Exactly what is a uniform on an alien planet suppose to look like? His costume in the comics looked like any costume you would find. Spandex in different colors.

My God, they actually kept the white eyes (which people have *****ed aobut the lack of) the symbol, and it looks more flat. We all thought it would have a more armor feel which people complained about, and it doesn't. And I'm glad the white gloves are gone. The white with the green and black do not contrast well.

People just have their own expectations and what they want. How they see it. Just be open minded about it. If you don't like it, that's okay, but people are going on with their personal qualms. You seriously thought the movie costume was going to be replicated on film to how you imagined it?

If you really look at the mask, it does look..alien.

And I'm surprised. Sony Imageworks did a good job on the suit.

For the most part, I think it's bad-ass. Everyone who knows me knows that I'm a comic purest, but I think they have a perfectly valid and faithful reason to go in this direction.

The suit is a construct of the ring. The ring ONLY creates green light constructs. This is true even in the comics, they just ignore this for the uniforms. This suit respects that rule and gives us the potential to see Green Lanterns actually burn like pure manifestations of willpower. This is one character that I think can look more iconic on-screen than he does with a simple green halo on the page.

I just think that the mask needs a bit more dimension and to come further down his nose.

No worries. We only have to wait for Kyle Rayner to come along and he'll be sporting something more fashionable I'm sure. :p

btw, Ryan's hair is fine but I worry he might get a receding hairline when he gets older. Christian Slater hairline magically stopped receding however.

Naw, his hairline is just farther, but he definitely wont have a recieding hairline.

Saint, its not projecting off the suit here? is this an abomination too?
I'm sorry, it seems like you decided to respond to me without bothering to understand my position. Yes, I think the absence of the projected symbol is a missed opportunity, but if you actually read my posts, you can see that the reasons I dislike the costume go far beyond that. So, no, the absence of the projection doesn't make in an "Abomination" (which, if you look carefully, you will notice is a word I never used).

and the mask is made of light, light doesnt just STOP it fades, same with the neck line, it fades out
Yes, I understand the reasoning behind it's design. Sadly, it looks no less absurd for it.

Well, we still don't know if that is in the film or not. Let's wait and see. I think a teaser trailer is next (maybe in another week or so).

Yeah, it could be that it only happens at certain times, so maybe we'll see it in the film. Even so, it would be bittersweet considering how big a mess they seem to have made of the costume.

i do agree that the neckline and parts of the mask looks 'smudge'. Or it 'blends in'. Maybe it'll look better in motion but that's something that they can fix if it doesn't work out.

"Chief Creative Officer" Geoff Johns should lose his job for not stoping this horrible costume.

oh jeez, take it down a notch. Boycott the movie and talking about itif you want... and leave it there.

Obviously they were motivated by the desire to make the costume appear alien, but the mask is one of several decisions here that just do not work.

The Green Lantern costume isn't plagued by underwear outside the pants, weird colours, silly patterns or any of the other problems that traditionally make superhero costumes difficult to adapt. Usually details on these costumes are embellished to make them appear less simple and more dynamic (like the raised webbing on Spider-Man), and we see what here with the texture--which I can live with, even if I don't really like the organic approach--but they've also opted to make the suit more simple and less dynamic by spraying it in green from head to toe. This is really damning. The lack of definition on the mask (and it's weird shape) compounds the problem, and the result is that the whole costume is just a weird green mess.

well..don't give up on it just yet. there's always comic con.

I do agree that the image is a bit weird. It could be the lighting or a rushed CGI job but we'll have to see.

i was simply using a word that soem people whi dislike the costume might be thinking, if i offended you my bad.
i think the logo itself might glow bright which would be an interesting visual

It is. We always hold out hope for some explanation or pretend like it isn't the costume, but it always is. However, it will probably be much more satisfying when we get to see it move on screen. I have the same gripes as everyone else—no black on the suit, too organic looking, ect. I do like the shape of the mask though, if it were more defined. The symbol looks fine to me. I could live with the texture if the black design elements were present.

Besides the fact that costume sucks big time thay gave him the Kyle's ring.

Love the costume! I was not at all psyched for this movie until I saw this. Now I have so much more faith that this movie won't be an obnoxious cheese-fest.

:applaud:
