What do you think of the costumes?

  • PERFECT!

  • They're good, they could have been alittle more faithful.

  • They work I guess.

  • I hate them.

now we have two badass versions of their costumes (the original from the book itself and these).

That's exactly how I look at most comic book movies, they don't have to be exactly the same as the source material, but an interpretation of it, and when you don't like it, there's always the comic.

true, but how is he going to do flips and stuff on his shows if he is in a rubber suit like that? but i do understand the idea behind it. but he should legit be in great shape

Ozy doesn't do gymnastics in his full costume in the comic; he does them in a golden, full-body, skin-tight suit. I'm sure the costume we have in this pic is the suit he wears when he wants to look like a god, which he does. I'm pretty happy with all of the costumes.

They're great. Not completely faithful, but now we have two badass versions of their costumes (the original from the book itself and these).

Hey Bubba... I don't usually do this and feel a bit silly for it, but who's that in your avatar?

I'd never say these costumes were awful, but they do miss the mark for me. I wanted more of a homemade aesthetic, like the comics featured. More leather and cloth construction. And as a bonus, it's more realistic, and if there's one comic adaptation that needs a realistic edge, it's WATCHMEN.

As far as Nite Owl is concerned, I would have loved to see something that looked a bit more cobbled together, rather than a polished, cinematic superhero look, complete with the impractical rubber.

Nipples back on costumes now?! Ugh!

I don't know much about Watchmen but my initial impressions of these costumes, particularly Ozymandias and Silk Spectre, are that they look really cheesy and tacky and harp back to the days of Batman and Robin costume designs.

Part of that cheese is on purpose - it's a film based in the 80's, so it should work within the context of the film. Have you read this great graphic novel?

I suspect a few havent. I still cant wait for his interview where he says how much he loved Reggae dub like in the book lol.

I have to say I agree. This updated Nite Owl costume maybe would've worked in Greengrass' post-9/11 Watchmen, but if this is something he used to wear in 1960s, than that's just silly.

And Ozymandias costume is utter garbage, and for all that fanboy parroting how comic book costumes woudn't work on screen, well, this is just ten times more ridiculous. It's worse than Batman and Robin. It looks like they got it straight out of Power Rangers' villain rubber suit catalogue.

On the upside, Rorschach and Comedian are more or less dead-on and I prefer Silk Spectre's costume to the one in the comic.

Oh well.

^I suspect A LOT haven't........

These costumes are no worse than the terrible X-Men suits. At least these resemble their comic book counterparts for the most part.

Nope. I'm interested in seeing this film though.

I've been coming to these forums for a long time and never really had it in me to start posting but after seeing these costumes all I have to say is best costumes to go from comic to movie screen ever! And with a great cast this movie will be amazing. Heres to one year away and counting.

The X-Men costumes worked well for the grounded in reality context of the films imo. I was initially concerned when I first saw them but they worked well.

These costumes however with the Batman nipples, Robin eye mask and spandex initially raise some concerns however they also might fit in well with the overall tone of the film, it remains to be seen. I might have a read of the novel to get a better overall idea though.

The Comedian and Rorschach are just perfect. :yay:

I like some aspects of the other uniforms, but they have also many problems.

Veidt: He shouldn't have a dark outfit, it has nothing to do with his obsession for knowledge, and his classic references. He would need some gold, some purple. Another problem is what I think is some laurel crown around his temples. The rubber, foam, or whatever chestplate, too.

Laurie: while Malin Ackerman really looks the part, her clothes are too stylish, comparing to the comic book version. I think originally it was meant to look a tad camp. And it doesn't look like silk, like there was a shadow under the yellow garment. It is exaggerated.

Daniel: really nice cowl (although someone already pointed out that owls don't have square eyes like his square goggles, but round ones). But the body is too much armour-like, and Dan should look a little awkward, paunchy, too. It is too crafted, a little overdone (like most of the others).

So, I think it has brought some very good news and some bad ones. What I'm worried about is exactly with this uneven approach so far.

I'm not sure that's the case. Greengrass' post-9/11 WATCHMEN had a hyper-real aesthetic (Ozymandias' hideout became a military bunker, etc.). So it would have been a lot more grounded in its look, closer to what Nolan did with BATMAN BEGINS.

but if this is something he used to wear in 1960s, than that's just silly.
Yeah, it doesn't work in that way. It should look more retro, like a relic that's been put away in a closet for a number of years. And like something that he himself could have manufactured. These superheroes didn't have a corporation/costume shop that can construct form-fitting rubber suits for them.

And Ozymandias costume is utter garbage, and for all that fanboy parroting how comic book costumes woudn't work on screen, well, this is just ten times more ridiculous.
Agreed.

I'll agree with that, more or less.

Unofficial is the key term. You're getting a little trigger happy with those jpegs don't you think?
