If Raimi makes a new Shadow movie, could it in fact overshadow (pun not intended) Nolan's series?

Not that the two would go head to head but because of the similarities (The Shadow was one of the inspirations for the creation of Batman) is it possible that Raimi could do a better job than Nolan is visually capturing the "spirit" of the character along with "iconic" scenes and the overall "atomsphere" that these movies should have.

In other words, could Raimi's Shadow movie be the movie that Nolan's Batman sequels should be? (I know this may not be a fair and easy question to answer because TDK has not come out yet and Raimi's movie should be compared to the TDK and NOT BB.)

Oh dear god, I'd love a new re-vamped Shadow movie.

I know. I love the Shadow character and I want it to succeed on EVERY level but I love Batman even more and I want the same for it.

I don't see any reason though why both cannot co-exist but the comparisons will be inevitable.

I highly doubt it. Nothing against The Shadow, but Batman is the much more popular character of the two, and I think they're different enough that people would be able to accept both just as they accepted...Spider-Man and Daredevil or something like that.

I hear you.

I guess my concern is that Raimi may see this as his Batman. What if he makes a movie that essentially a Batman movie starring the Shadow and completely knocks it out of the park.

A movie done so well that even Batman fanboys complain "thats the way Nolan should have made his Batman."

Is that a possibility?

Fanboys will ALWAYS whine. No matter what.

Meh. The thought of Raimi + anything similar to Batman doesn't really pique my interest.

are you guys CRAZY!?! this movie won't touch the dark knight. no one cares about those heroes on the level of batman. look at spiderman 1 vs. begins.

nolan will stand on his own just fine.

Regrettably, I know absolutely nothing about the Shadow :(

not regrettably. he's a C-list hero with one crappy film adaptation under his belt. you can rent it if you want to...but I think you'd like the Phantom slightly better :)

I've seen the Phantom. Treat Williams can do no wrong! :cmad:

Thats today but there was a time (In the 1930's) where The Shadow was one of most popular characters in our society and a very popular radio series that was beloved by many.

even if Raimi's 'the Shadow' turns out to be as good as his Spider-Man movies that doesn't mean it'll steal Batman's thunder. why do they always have to spin the news in a way that make it seem competitive? the Shadow and Batman are 2 different beasts...they should be looked at as such. it's like comparing Batman to Blade....they're both dark characters but both of them are different enough to exist side by side.

there doesn't have to be only one....highlander...

I realize that, Raybia. But you don't see me rushing out to buy a cotton gin because it was once popular.

the shadow was the first comic book superhero. even before superman. still... there's not enough following or common knowledge to make it a threat to batman if it happens to be made.

If Raimi is actually makeing The Shadow, it's definitely piqued my interest. It'd be nice to seem him harken back to old horror-style roots.

And let's not fool ourselves into thinking that these 2 characters are radically different, one did have a major influence in the creation of the other. Of course, Batman will most likely always win out box office wise. Let's see how Raimi handles the Shadow using....shadows. Nolan missed on that opportunity imo.

I could see Raimi doing The Shadow kinda like how he did Darkman (which was awesome) but he'll have more $$ so it'll look glossier (which isn't necessarily good)

YES. One of the big things missing from Begins. I wanna see some Sale-esque work in the cinematography.

Meh...Raimi should just skip the Shadow and do the sequel to Army.

Really, the only criticism I have of Nolan's Batman story, and proceeding mythos, is his lack of using shadows to enhance the Batman visual style. The best visual Batman stories involve heavy shadow usage. The only scene where I dug what he did with shadows, wasn't even probably intentional (ala Burton, who was a master at shadows), it was the scene where Batman is talking to Rachel in the cave. The light hits the cowl's forehead and nose, and the eyes are completely blacked out, and it looks very creepy. Nolan could've done a better job in lighting Batman different, to maybe make him alittle more mysterious. Instead, he thought just showing him in quick glimpses was enough. But th key to the mysterious angle of Batman, is not always being able to see everything. That way his intentions aren't clear to the viewer, and he looks a little more monster-ish.
