Could the Black Suit Spidey have done better than Venom?

I was thinking, what if the movie just featured Peter donning the Black Suit and facing off against a different enemy than Venom? Peter could still go through his identity crisis and come face to face with Sandman. Then at the end of the movie, Eddie could have spotted Peter and had the Symbiote fuse with him, leaving part 4 open for a much better Venom. I'm not sure how well the movie would have done but at least they would have time to work on Venom's character.

All loose ends had to be wrapped up in SM3, so what you're suggesting wasn't really an option.

And as far as Venom's character goes...it's there, we just lost a lot of it on the cutting room floor. Sandman and Venom's lack of character development can be chalked up to editing, not writing.

Blader5489 has got it right.

As I've said before, I really liked how Venom was handled but I think a Spider-Man 3.1 may improve the case a bit more, if it ever gets done.

When dealing with a trilogy, and the fans wanting a Venom, I don't think Raimi had much of a choice but to squeeze Venom in the end. If it was the second film it may have worked who knows, but then again I wouldn't really like a huge cliffhanger ending with Venom being created then he walks down a flight of stairs and says something like "So tell me, what's become of my ship? *bites into apple*"

:whatever:

What do you mean exactly?

I never suggested a corny/copycatted cliffhanger, just something that'll get people excited for the next movie.

Oh no I was just kidding, I just am unsure if it would have worked for the 3rd movie. Like some were saying they were trying to tie up loose ends for the last one. They should've just stuck with one main villain, Sandman or Venom. I think that would've worked better. But hey, I don't hate Spider-Man 3 anyways, I love it. :sym:

IMo, Black Suit Spider-Man was so fantastic and so fun to watch. I loved the enhanced powers and overall everything about the suit, such as how it changed Peter's personality.

lol...
your so optimistic!:whatever:

For what its worth...I like the film...but...it REALLY stretched it for me. I liked the new suit. I wish they had the venom symbol on spidey. but overall it still works.

what doesn't work is how they had a whole bunch of scenes an audience not familiar to spidey wouldn't understand. like...
the symbiote itself. where did it come from? why does eddie know all the stuff about peter? why is he able to use skills that parker had trouble with in the first film so quickly? sure us comic buffs know the answer. but to an audience not familiar with the venom mythos this is VERY confusing.

I would have liked this film better if they left it with spidey hanging on to the black suit.

I love the film, but that's one of my complaints as well. Venom is much more dangerous than any other villain because he doesn't set off Spidey's spider-sense. I wish that would've been mentioned, but then again,Peter's spider-sense seemed to disappear completely in this film.

I just wish we got one fight with Venom in before Venom ran to Sandman for help. But the length of the movie wouldn't allow that. I just believe that Venom was made out to be a pansy running to Sandman right off.

I also would be fine if they just released a well made Animated Film straight to DVD for Venom and Carnage.

While Venom is my favorite villain and maybe favorite character of all time. He just didn't seem to fit into the movie universe that Raimi created for Spider-Man. It was like he was out of place.

An interesting idea, not mine though, but better than the cluttered version of Spider-man 3. Not that Spider-man 3 was bad.

I don't understand how they couldn't find a suitable climax for Spider-man 3 if they were going to make it two films. There was MORE than enough there. The film could have ended with the church scene and Peter getting rid of the suit and the birth of Venom.

The subway fight would have made a great final battle if they had reworked it so that there was a little more at stake. If they broke it into two films they could have:

-added more depth to the Goblin Legacy and had Harry and Sandman been the sole villains of this film.
-Added more weight to Sandman's daughter in this film and made her and her mother a presence.
-Showed the Black suit transform Peter even moresoe.

The fourth film could have:
-Developed Venom as a major threat to Peter's personal life (Aunt May, MJ, Jameson, etc)
-We could have had the return of Sandman and a MUCH better team up of he and Venom that wasn't contrived.
-Better explanation of WHO Venom was. Rami didn't even NAME him in the 3rd film. He said NOTHING of how he inherited this power and knowledge.

There's so much more they could have done if they broke the film in half and expanded each side. It truly could have been great.

But this is a business, and they needed to have the contracts for all the key players to come back for a Spider-man 4 if they chose this route, and they did not. So if they decided to make it two pictures before production, they may have been able to lock everyone in- but they couldn't make a Spider-man 3 building up to a Spider-man 4 if they didn't know who would come back in the fourth picture.
