Mystery/Thriller Criminal Minds

Good episode this week. The whole "child abduction" case was well done with some nice twist and turns leading up toward the end. I figured as much that it would touch JJ somewhat due to her being a new mother - so she could understand where most of the parents were coming from when it came to their children.

I also liked in the end when Sarah asked why the BAU do what they do and then Prentiss answers - "Because of days like this." And then looks at everyone they saved.

Looking forward to next week.

Criminal Minds Spin-Off First Look:
On April 7, CBS will air an episode of Criminal Minds that paves the way for its planned spin-off.

On that installment, Agent Hotchner's BAU team will join up with new operatives led by Forest Whitaker's Sam Cooper. Together, they all investigate an outbreak of murders in San Francisco.

In the photo below, Whitaker is seen with Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook and Joe Mantegna:

Last year, CBS spun-off NCIS successfully to create NCIS: Los Angeles, one of the highest-rated shows on TV. It's safe to assume this new version of Criminal Minds will also get picked up this fall.

If that's the case, it will also star Beau Garrett, Matt Ryan and Michael Kelly. Below, we've posted three more pictures from the April 7 episode:
Awesome. This is promising to be a great episode and Whitaker/Cooper is looking good for this time of show. I'm looking forward to see more from the other team.

Also, there's more images in the link.

The spinoff still needs Jordan Todd and Nick Brendon's character.

Is it just me or is Forrest Whitaker thinner than he was when he was "The Last King of Scotland?"

Yeah, it does look like he's shed the pounds. In fact last night I was watching him in A Little Thing Called Heaven with Julia Stiles...There's definitely a difference nowadays.

:awesome: that Joe Mantegna is also Fat Tony from the Simpsons.

Rewatched "Outfoxed" last night and was reminded again of how much I liked the episode when I first saw it...The flashbacks from the first appearance of The Fox in season one and a reflection of his crimes were a nice touch.

After the ep was finished it aired a preview for next week's all new episode. At last! Whitaker looked cool with Hotch and I liked the tag line.."For a case this big, two minds are better then one." Should be a great episode. Can't wait.

Tonight's the night!

Plot for the episode:
But before we get ahead of ourselves, this is still the original Criminal Minds. Tonight, the Bau team heads to San Francisco to investigate the murders of several homeless men and teams up with a separate group of Bau operatives who are working on another case that is most probably connected to it. This is where Whitaker and the gang comes in.

Very good episode...The main thing I would've liked was for it to be a two parter. But really, I thought it delivered. Especially a look inside the new team or as they're called - Minds 2.0. Mick and Prophet were cool, Mick was the badass though. But with Prophet, I like his story of turning his life around and joining the BAU after he left prison. Whitaker as Cooper was good, but at times I felt like he was trying too hard. Maybe that's just me. I liked how Cooper and Hotch had eachother's backs. Other than that, I enjoyed it. Next week looks interesting.

Mick: So, what are you wearing?

Prentiss: A gun.

:hehe:

Finally caught up with Wednesday's episode which was fairly good. I loved the twist of officer Boyd being the "The Saint of Death" and how he matched the profile the team gave to Texas police about the unsub they were looking for.

Also, I wanted to say...I rewatched the episode The Evilution of Frank last week which is the second part of his debut episode and where he returns to make Gideon's life a living hell. To me, Frank is the greatest villain of the entire series next to The Reaper who destroyed Hotch's life. Just my two cents on that.

If Cooper's team is to return to full time duty for the spinoff, they need an agent who's good at handling the press and they need a computer junkie who can narrow the field of unsubs down to one (or in some cases a few).

That would be where Jordan Todd and Nick Brendon's character comes in.

I'll say this about last night's episode: The tattoo were the best part of it all. Especially when Reid asked to cut the light to discover the "hidden" one. Next week looks decent.

Saw the preview for tonight's ep and...JJ's leaving?! :csad:

Oh well. Good thing Paget's still around. :o

Wonder who will be JJ's replacement though. Also, last week's season premiere was great.

EXCLUSIVE: Rachel Nichols is in negotiations to join the cast of CBS' Criminal Minds as a series regular, the show's first new regular addition since Joe Mantegna took over for Mandy Patinkin in 2007. Nicholson was originally tapped or a 3-episode arc, which will begin airing next week. CBS had said it would add a new female regular cast member this season following the departure of original co-star A.J. Cook. The character Alias alumna Nichols will play, FBI cadet Ashley Seaver, had been originally listed as a new regular but was eventually scaled back to 3 episodes. Seaver will first join the Behavior Analysis Unit when she is invited by Agent Hotch (Thomas Gibson) to consult on a case after learning her family history will bring a unique insight into the mind of a serial killer.

Meanwhile, I hear Paget Brewster has been asked to return to a status of a full-fledged regular on the show but will weigh pilot offers. Following the cast upheaval on the veteran CBS crime drama over the summer, Brewster was offered to return to the show this season as a regular but in reduced capacity, appearing in about 17 of the series' 22 episodes. As part of the new deal she signed, Brewster was given a "pilot out," meaning she could do a pilot for a new series while on Minds this season. Brewster has appeared in all 9 episodes of the CBS drama that have aired so far, and the network recently proposed a return to the original agreement. Brewster opted to adhere to her amended contract and take advantage of the option that allows her to do a pilot.

The other day's episode was cool that it was shot in my hometown! Other than that, it was a medicore show overall (Never has been a strong point of the series of bringing in new people), and while I think there is potential for it, and I know they are trying to change things up, but I don't think this going to work to well to well, IMO.

This show is in like it's fifth or sixth season. There is no potential.

CBS is run by idiots, I swear to God.

From Deadline

- On the decision to drop A.J. Cook from Criminal Minds. Tassler said it came out of the discussion related to the development of the show's upcoming spinoff. "We though, 'is there an opportunity with the sipnoff to evolve some of the roles (on the mothership series)?'." On Paget Brewster, whose episode commitment was reduced this season and whose future on the show is uncertain: "We'd hope that she would stay, she has the option to do so."

From E!Online:

CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler faced the press today about the canning of A.J. Cook and the diminution of Paget Brewster's role on Criminal Minds and her explanation was, shall we say...strained. The good news for us Minds fans is that Tassler expressed a hope that Brewster wouldn't quit the show entirely in response to the cuts.

So what caused the shakeup, according to Tassler? Would you believe that developing the Criminal Minds spinoff Suspect Behavior caused them to take a second look at the bureaucratic structure of the FBI and therefore reconsider the cast structure of Criminal Minds? Because that's the line Tassler is selling...

When asked if the cuts were in fact due to budget reasons, as some have speculated, Tassler said, "I wouldn't say that it was just budget reasons. I would say that over the past couple of years a lot of shows have taken a look at adjusting their casts, their castmembers, sometimes for budget reasons, and other times—in this case one of the factors we building a spinoff and we had [Criminal Minds:] Suspect Behavior and we looked at sort of the evolution of the franchise, what this division of the FBI, how they actually did their jobs...and that did give us an opportunity to reflect that back on the design and the structure of the team on Criminal Minds.

"So there were discussions about what role did A.J. play, what role did Paget play—is there an opportunity here with the spinoff to look back at the original show? How did we feel about that brand? How could we evolve the roles of the agents in the original show?

"We hope Paget stays with the show, she has the option to stay and we would like her to continue on with the show, but I can tell you that across the board there are discussions about castmembers changing—in fact it's more often than is necessarily shared by the press. It's the nature of the evolution of any show."

Uh-huh.

Cook, who plays public affairs agent Jennifer Jareau, was written off the series earlier this season; Brewster, who plays Behaviorial Analysis Unit agent Emily Prentiss, no longer appears in every episode.
