CW Developing ‘Young Justice’ TV Series for 2015?

Sorry, but now that the possibility exists, or is simply being made up for an Internet rumor, I kind of want to construct a possible pitch for the show, and I kind of want to see other people's pitches in depth as well. In other words, how would you make this work? Who's your cast? What's your approach?

Set seven years after the current setting of Arrow, Young Justice features the titular group of teen and young adult heroes protecting the world in the wake of the mysterious disappearance of a vast portion of the world's adult population, including the Justice League. While far from alone, Young Justice is made up of largely inexperienced but vastly powerful heirs to the world's greatest heroes, making their quickened growth essential to the safety of the world. With heavy hitting villains still threatening the chaotic status quo of the world, these children must deal with their hormones, secrets, responsibilities, all while maintaining normal appearances in civilian life and trying to fill the Justice League's shoes.

Nightwing (Caucasian, Early-to-mid 20's)-Team Leader and most experienced of the remaining world heroes. The first Robin, attempts to coordinate the heroic response to the ongoing crisis and takes the role of teacher and mentor to the team. Well aware he is attempting to fill Batman's shoes, and is better at the job then he thinks.

Superboy (Caucasian, Late Teens)- Potentially the most powerful person remaining in the world, Superboy is chronologically 7 weeks old, physically 18 years old, and mentally straddling the line between highly educated tactician and rebellious teenager. Starts off with immense strength and durability, but needs to learn how to unlock and control his other powers. Frustrated with his seeming lack of power, can be a little bit arrogant and testy, but otherwise a charmer. In truth, a cloned weapon created by Lex Luthor, who has vanished but is not connected to the other adults' disappearance.

Miss Martian (African-American, Late Teens)- The optimistic and kind but secretive refugee ward of Martian Manhunter. Displays Martian powers of telepathy, shape shifting, and telekinesis. Comes off as a bubbly cheerleader type, but can break into a scary as hell warrior when pressed. Actually a White Martian, a species which has attacked Earth numerous times before hand, and suffers from PTSD when put into a cage or mentally attacked.

Aquagirl (Hispanic, Late Teens)- Alpha female type, and most experieced of the team apart from Nightwing, being the former bratty teenage daughter of an Atlantean ambassador and her American husband. Ambitious and intelligent, but perhaps overconfident, being very used to getting what she wants with her own two hands. Older sister type most of the time. Roughly as strong and durable as Superboy currently is, she becomes somewhat insecure when he begins to surpass her and begins to study Atlantean magic. Requires submersion in saltwater every 24 hours, and hostile towards those who see that as a weakness.

Impulse (Ambiguous ancestry, Mid Teens)-Future descendent of the Flash, raised in artificial environment and thus very reckless and, well, impulsive. Got his code name from Batman. Arguably the most flippant of the main characters, still very much a nice guy who just doesn't think ahead at all. Has the greatest control and understanding of his powers, but very predictable and simplistic in his tactical thinking.

Robin (Caucasian/Korean, Mid Teens)- Tim Drake is the third Robin almost through sheer misfortune. His father angered the Penguin, forcing Tim to seek the Dark Knight's help via the former Robin, Jason Todd, who helped save his family and became his friend before dying tragically at the hands of the Joker. When the Penguin discovered the family, killed his mother and crippled his father, Tim was taken in by Bruce Wayne and finds himself taking over the Robin identity in the anarchy of the new world. Extremely intelligent and personable, Tim befriends Superboy and Impulse, making him one of the few people who can focus the two towards following Nightwing's orders.

* Justice League members do appear in flashbacks, but mostly in civilian identities.
* Other characters who may appear: Blue Beetle, Wondergirl, Batgirls, Aqualad, Arrowette, Artemis, etc.
* Relatively serious, but definite humor derived from character interactions. Think Arrow with some of Supernatural's humor.
* Guest stars and new actors a major part of the show's formula, as various heroes and villains.
* Arrow is this show's past, so Thea or Roy may make an appearance as grown up heroes. The LOA exists here as well, though it is split between Nyssa, Dusan, and Talia, the latter of whom is forming Leviathan.
* Most expensive costumes: Robin, Impulse, and Nightwing.

Again, this is all my ideal situation with a probably inflated budget, but what do you guys think? And what's your ideas?

I like the idea of setting it in a world where the adult population has disappeared which is taken from the story-line, World Without Grown-Ups. That could be the overarching plot of the whole series and how the Titans have to step up to be the heroes they have to be protecting the population of kids remaining while searching for a way to bring the adults back. It would be similar to shows just like Jeremiah or the New Zealand kid's show, The Tribe except it has superheroes. That could also eliminate the issue of fans asking: "Where's Superman/Batman etc".

You could do a lot with that setting. I'm not so sure about putting it in the same world as Arrow as something like this I feel should be its own thing as a setting like this doesn't feel like it belongs in the same world as Arrow's.

Overall I think you should go to the suits running the CW channel and shove this idea in front of their faces until they say yes.

One question though, where would Captain Marvel/Shazam aka Billy Batson fit? Also, what happens when someone in that world turns 18 after the disappearing happen? Would they disappear too? Or will they be ok? I guess that could be a funny way of writing actors out lol. I guess birthdays could become the most terrifying thing in that world. I could see it at a convention now:

"Hey everyone, someone's turning 18!"

Audience:"NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

It'll be like Joss Whedon killing a fan favorite haha.

I like some of your pitch just not the Aquagirl part as Atlanteans have moved past having to be in the water every 24 hours and if you're gonna use a character for her why not just use Tula.

If they go the Aquaman sidekick route it should be Kal or Garth, Garth would be nice as he hasn't really been in media outside comics much but Kal was established over the YJ cartoons run so I'm ok with either.

I was thinking of making it less World Without Grownups and more World Without the Important Grownups. I figure it saves you some budget and gives you more potential if you can have adults but not the Justice League or any important leaders. Imagine a world without presidents, CEOs, kings, senators, or officers, where the adults are either people who never wanted to be integral to the system, who failed to be integral to the system, or tried to destroy the system.

I figured Bedlam could work for something like that, but I also love the idea of Harm doing some kind of dark rite to eliminate all who can oppose him and the team having to rise to be capable of beating him.

The Peter David plot could still work great, and I can just imagine a fun episode dealing with them trying to see what technicalities the age law would have.

I chose Lorena largely because she adds diversity to the cast, has a lower budget group of powers than Kaldur, and because to be honest I kind of want to strike a blow for the modern age characters against the Silver Age resurgence.

Though my idea for Kaldur showing up would be to have him introduced as Black Manta's son first, then have him reveal himself as a defector and Atlantean soldier. He can use the armor and regular strength powers for a while and then whip out limited magic to maintain the budget. Garth, Starfire, Donna, and even Vic would be elder guest stars who don't need to be part of the team and have their own adventures.

Kind of like how the Batgirls could show up or not be around for different reason. Maybe Barbara Gordon is in the first episodes, it's established that she's both physically and emotionally older than Dick, then she disappears with everyone else, giving Dick a reason to be worried about her and himself. Then Cass shows up as Tim's protector and crush while Steph gets her traditional storyline.

OH well then we will have to disagree because I dont agree with anything you said about the Aquaman characters. :o

By getting rid of the important adults, I think what will just happen is that new adults will just step up and so on and so forth like say college students that one day will become those roles. Regarding budget, wouldn't younger unknown actors work with smaller pay compared to adults? You could just keep it restricted to Happy Harbor with occasional visits to Metropolis/Gotham/Central City/Coast City etc.

By getting rid of all of the adults, I think it will create more chaos and anarchy which would make a great plot device. I guess I kinda see why you want to keep some adults in, so adults who watch the CW won't be entirely alienated. I guess it doesn't rule out adults from otherworldly places(like Trigon) or maybe as a plot twist find that some adult villains survived like League of Assassins or other minor bad guys in the DCU. On the hero side if things I guess you could have adult guest stars, for example(off the top of my head) say that Dr Fate survived and the kids find him or something or they find Shazam/Captain Marvel who'd be brilliant here as he wasn't done in live action for at least several decades?

When with these superhero soap operas on The CW end?

It's a shame that WB has no faith in Teen Titans as a live action film property. It could have been a great way to fill the Harry Potter void.

I really hope this project doesn't happen. It will do more damage than good. Especially for Robin, who I want to see properly done in the reboot Batman films coming.

DC needs to stop dumping its properties on The CW, especially when these shows don't connect with the DC film universe. It's a waste.

based on what?

Oh, no problem. I like all the Aqua-characters about equally, I just don't give a hoot about the Silver Age characters if the first stories I read were Modern Age. I'm from the 90's, man!:woot:

Tim Drake is Korean? ....

Again, I'm just trying to add some diversity into the group. I literally just looked at it and figured, "Eh, why not?" And I was going for half-Korean. Really, though, I just want Tim Drake in some kind of form in live action instead of having all the other Robins cannibalized to give Dick Grayson, who's already an awesome character in his own right, some more "hip" characteristics.

Again with this nonsense, is not a waste, you can have two separate universes doing fine on both mediums. Arrow and any new DC series will be free to do what they want without worrying about the movies and viceversa (besides some restrictions of course). Snyder will pick his actors, not the actors from the tv shows, the way it should be.

Plus, it gives DC the chance to open up a two-front war on Marvel in both TV and Movies if they can launch B-Listers and possibly even A-Listers against Marvel's C-Listers in both mediums.

The one thing I'd pray this hypothetical show or any others like it don't do is use Scott Lobdell's recent run for source material. That run has such a bad mixture of convoluted plots and simplistic characters that it becomes boring in about three pages, and it would piss off the fans to no end.

I wouldn't mind Raven being part of the team, if this is even true.

Definitely see them using Nightwing in this especially if he shows up in Arrow. If they're going to use Teen Titans storylines fo this too then all the Titans related stuff they're introducing in Arrow makes sense too (H.I.V.E., Deathstroke, Brother Blood, etc).

Well BC's source just got a whole lot more validated with the confirmation that the pilot of Gotham will indeed be about Gordon tackling the double homicide of the Waynes.

I really hope that of this show takes off, and if its set in a post-Justice League world, that we get to see dozens of guest stars who play other heroes. I'd just love the crud out of knowing we'd get six or seven new heroes introduced every season.

Think about how awesome it could be to see Cass Cain, Steph Brown, Supergirl, Static, Kid Devil, etc. all in live action.

They should call the show Titans instead of Young Justice.

Eh, I'd prefer they keep calling it Young Justice if its got Superboy and Impulse in it. The Titans title post Geoff Johns has not been kind to any of the YJ4, and I'd prefer the show embrace the original Titans legacy with Nightwing having his own peer group apart from the team.

I'd love to see a live action Static.

You know, I am not a fan of swapping races around. For example, the Wests being rumored to be black, in the upcoming Flash series. But with the Robins, I guess I wouldn't mind it at all if they changed it up. I always thought it was kinda iffy, that every new boy Bruce takes in, is basically a mini-me version of himself. Spice it up a little

As long as they don't actually make Jason Todd the red headed middle child, I'm fine with spicing up the Robins.

Heck, Dick's sometimes given some canonical Romani heritage to tie into his circus origins, Jason apparently felt his mother could very well be Lady Shiva, and Chuck Dixon said he wrote Tim Drake as culturally, if not religiously, Jewish.

But WB needs to venture out of CW more for these superhero adaptions. They went to FOX for the possible Gotham series but that is about all. Go to HBO or something where some of these characters can flourish the way they should.

Isn't Constantine at NBC? That could possibly connect to Guillermo Del Toro's Justice League: Dark.

Yeah, Constantine is on NBC.

Plus, I don't see how HBO is relevant here. Young Justice couldn't be more perfect for The CW.

Now, if they were trying, like, Sandman on The CW, I'd shoot that down.

Let's not forget that Damian is also supposed to be half Middle-Eastern, yet he is consistently portrayed as Caucasian.
