well the thing is they dropped their comedy block on fridays, and so they wanted a show to anchor the night, and smallville is the top rated drama on the network and they think that with its average 3.0 million viewers they will stay with the move and the network would finally have a friday night show that got over 3 million viewers. I believe all their other shows on average only get between 1-high 2 million viewers. As for spiltting up smallville/supernatural that was a bit of a dumb move their. But they thought with having that new vampire drama paired with supernatural would be a good pairing with each other and with supernatural viewers hopefully watching vampire show before supernatural is on.
But we all know for smallville the network has said as long as the show stays at or above its average 3.0 million viewers they are happy and fine with the show. And if it keeps that average then yea a 10th season would be picked up. But like i said before the producers have said the network wouldnt up and can them without a good time frame to wrap things up. So we just have to wait after first few episodes to see how ratings are fairing.
