CW President Dawn Ostroff leaving after season

Shame i'm just getting interested in what makes a show tick. I would have liked to have seen the numbers for "Alias" Did women or men favor the show more etc.

On another message board that I've been using, somebody actually tried to go to great lengths defend Dawn Ostroff's decisions by bringing forth extensive data/ratings reports.

i dont know a single person who doesnt dislike the CW. and i know TONS of people who used to watch the WB and hated, almost as much as i absolutely loathed, the switch between those networks. Soooo many great shows were either lost, or made worse from that switch. and any and all shows sense have an awful premise. all of them pretty much have to same one... so. yeah.

ive hated the CW, with the exception of the few shows that made it through the switch. though its clear that One Tree Hill has been ruined, and the CW seems to care less about Smallville and Supernatural. =(

The CW network is hoping to net a successor to outgoing entertainment president Dawn Ostroff, and is interviewing a string of candidates for the job, The Post has learned.

Ostroff, one of the longest-serving broadcast entertainment chiefs in the business, is set to leave at the end of June. She joined in January 2006, when CBS-owned UPN merged with Time Warner's The WB to create The CW.

Executives would not reveal who's under consideration, but sources said at least 10 candidates are being interviewed to run the youth-centric network, whose shows include "Gossip Girl" and "The Vampire Diaries."

CW, the “Gossip Girl” network, is on the hunt for a new chief to revitalize its non-“GG” offerings. Current boss Dawn Ostroff (above) is due to leave in June.

The executive who takes the reins will be competing not only with other broadcast networks for younger viewers, but also with a resurgent MTV, which is riding high on the back of ratings champ "Jersey Shore."

What really made the WB work (which was also considered "youth centric" and the "Pretty White Kids w/ Problems" network) was their multi-generational dramas and sitcoms and supernatural shows. Even UPN had success (even though, they kind of put most of their faith in the Star Trek franchise to led them) in some part by cornering the urban market when no other network would.

Here's a solution, get Stephen Collins to run the CW:woot::

Deadline's TV writer Nellie Andreeva is reporting that the CW may have already found a replacement for departing president Dawn Ostroff.

Veteran TV executive-turned-producer Mark Pedowitz is expected to succeed departing CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff as head of the network. Word is that Pedowitz, who spent 19 years at Disney-ABC, including serving as president of ABC Studios for five years, has been identified as the person for the job by the two entities that co-own the CW: CBS and Warner Bros. Additionally, the CW's EVP drama development, Thom Sherman, is expected to get a larger creative role, possibly also overseeing unscripted programming.

No deal with Pedowitz is in place yet but making one would not be a problem as Pedowitz is already in the Warner Bros fold -- his Pine Street Entertainment is based at Warner Bros TV with a first-look deal. Pedowitz is said to be very close with Warner Bros TV Group president Bruce Rosenblum who, along with CBS' Nancy Tellem, led the search for a new CW topper.

Maybe the new guy will start veering the network's focus away from being Lifetime TV II

Oh thank God she is leaving, the woman ruined the network and took Everwood off the air!

I'm actually pleased to see that they might go with this Pedowitz guy, since I saw on another site that three chicks who ran Lifetime at one point were in contention for the job. That would've been a real disaster.

i hope they pick a better president this time, who is open to more genere's and target demos.

And maybe for once: Sports. It's the easy way to attract the male demo.

Hopefully we won't be looking at a combined NFL/NBA/NHL lockout next year.

of course, if we are, then MLB is going to want to take advantage and fill the gap with tons of games that normally wouldn't see air. Would be an opportunity of the CW.

Pedowitz or who ever becomes the new head honcho should think about sports, BUT, mostly from AFL, imo. NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB have been shown on broadcast television, but I have yet to see AFL on anything the past two years except for cable. Bringing in AFL, at least for the weekends, would be a wise decision, and also because the CW would then actually have something worthwhile to watch on the weekends.

Would be ncie to see CW to break into the Sunday timeslot again. And add some comedies. Wednesday would be perfect if ABC didnt already take over that day with comedies.
