The CW’s 2012 development slate is looking pretty ugly — and I mean that in the best possible way.

Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that CBS Television Studios is developing a reboot of the ’80s cult classic Beauty and the Beast for The CW.
The original series, which ran on CBS from 1987 to 1990, starred Ron Perlman as the mythic man beast and Linda Hamilton as the object of his affection.

The new version will not only modernize and CW-up the love story but also add a procedural twist. Nice pedigree, too: Without a Trace vet Jennifer Levin and Brothers & Sisters‘ Sherri Cooper will pen the script and serve as executive producers.

I’m told this was the first project new CW president Mark Pedowitz discussed with CBS Studios head David Stapf when he succeeded Dawn Ostroff in the spring. Side note: This B&B is not to be confused with the B&B pilot that ABC is developing for next season. That one is based on the public domain fairy tale about a girl forced to live in a castle with a beast who eventually wins her heart.

Can they just skip this and give me a good WW series instead?

I imagine that since The CW has lower standards when it comes to ratings, this will be the longer lasting of the two, should they both go to series.

Its hard for me to even imagine a modern day series set on this fairy tale espically since now all I see is Beastly in my mind when I think of it. CW should think about doing a fables series since it would fit perfeclty for them.

The CW really needs to start that Zombie Series there were planning to do I forget what it was called. I think its called Awakening about 2 sisters trying to survive a Zombie apocalypse

The premise of that show sounded dreadful and I'm glad it wasn't picked up. I think it might be best to leave zombies to the professionals. If the CW wants to do sexy vampires and witches, sure, go for it. But sexy zombies? Come on...

I'm more interested in the ABC version.

So they are developing a new version of the Perlman/ Hamilton series!

If there's a procedural element, I imagine it will be a bit like Angel. However, I thought Hamilton's character Catherine did bring some procedural element before, with Vincent protecting her.

I liked Beastly, for some reason. Maybe I'm easy to please. But this doesn't interest me at all.

She's an beautiful inexperienced detective, he's a cursed monstrous animal. They fight crime!

TV Line:
Scoop: Smallville's Kristin Kreuk Returns to The CW as Female Lead of Beauty and the Beast Pilot

The CW’s Beauty and the Beast update has found a most worthy — one might say super — successor to Linda Hamilton: Kristin Kreuk.
The Smallville alumna has landed the female lead in the hour-long pilot, a reboot of the classic ’80s series that ran on CBS from 1987 to 1990 and starred Ron Perlman as the mythic man beast and Hamilton as the object of his affection.

The CW version, written and exec produced by Without a Trace vet Jennifer Levin and Brothers & Sisters‘ Sherri Cooper, will add a contemporized procedural twist.

Reminder: This B&B is not to be confused with the B&B pilot that ABC is developing for next season. That one is based on the public domain fairy tale about a girl forced to live in a castle with a beast who eventually wins her heart.

Casting for Kreuk’s beastly leading man continues, so there’s still time to drop a few suggestions in the comments. And while you’re there, weigh in on Kreuk’s hiring!
Depending on the script, this could be a very good thing or a very bad one. She was a pain in the ass for the most part of Smallville, but that's because the character was written that way. She was quite likeable in her guest arc on Chuck.

Kreuk can be a great actress if the part is written well. I'll wait until the pilot airs to make a judgement though I've never been a fan of the Linda Hamilton series.

Also, it seems like everyone has moved on from Smallville except for Tom Welling...

He's looking more and more like his Clark Kent character....

He'll be living off "Smallville" money for years. We'll see him at a convention 30 years down the road but he'll be fatter.

Kristin makes me Intrested In this.As one of few guys who watched the 1980's Beauty and the beast I hope this Is decent.I am always worried when i hear the word
reimaging.

After consuming Patricia Arquette and Alyssa Milano, my premonitions tell me this is going to suck hard. :o

They're Medium and Charmed references.

Oh, I figured Medium, but I couldn't figure out the Milano reference. I thought they might have worked together on a failed pilot of something. :oldrazz:

I still don't get what they have to do with this show?

Both of them played characters who saw the future.

Oh, Patricia Arquette played a psychic in the show Medium. She would have premonitions in her dreams. Alyssa Milano played a witch in Charmed who had the power of premonitions as well. I was just saying I predict not liking this show based on what I've heard so far.

I like Kristen Kreuk so I'm willing to check it out, at least the pilot episode. However, with GDL developing a big-screen version with Emma Watson, and another show developing for ABC, I wonder if B&B will get as overexposed as Snow White and other fairy tale adaptation? The fact that we have Once Upon A Time and Grimm at the same time is bad enough, now Hollywood is going to adapt each and every one story separately, either as a TV series or movie. Quite frankly, I think enough's enough.
