I don't know that he's a better actor than Jackman, but he's certainly capable. Still, had Caviziel done the part instead of Marsden, they would NOT have crapped all over Cyclops like they have. Of course part of what made Jackman a big star was X1 where he was a total bad ass while Scott was a total tool.

I don't think Caviezel would have been as likeable. I don't think he looks the part either. And let's be honest, he's not really a good looking guy. I think if he were Cyclops, we'd probably be rooting for Wolverine right now.

And Hugh has done what exactly (in film)? Kate & Leopold (disaster) or Van Helsing (disappointing is a kind way of putting it), Swordfish (people went for Halle's boobs, that's all). All were not very successful or acclaimed. At least he ahs a broadway career to fall back on.

The big problem with Cyclops in the films is that ALL of is character moments in X1 were cut. He was nothing more than an "opposite" to Wolverine. He had few lines, and was the but of alot of Logan's one-liners. Hence in X2, they felt he was expendable, and now...well, we'll see...

Yeah...it is entirely possible that Marsden could be a bigger star had they not made him Wolverine's whipping boy in X1.

I'd love to see Marsden hit it big with some role and people see the X-Man movies as a waste of his talents. Which they are.

Hey, he was funny in Sugar & Spice!

He did S&S, The Notebook, The Hieghts, 10th & Wolf (not out yet), The 24th Day (indy, direct to video, I believe, and excellent performance), and Superman, and he's doing Bobby, Enchanted, and a voice for a cartoon Conan. He also was a regular on Ally McBeal's last season. He's kept busier thanthe rest of the X-cast.
I don't think he's in Bobby anymore

If the movie bombs, you can blame it directly on killing off a major character in the books. It's so disgusting how the movie makers could give a crap less about the fans. They aren't making these movies for the fans, and they don't care a damn bit what they think.

I'll give the movie a chance, but it's looking more and more, like we'll have to wait for Spider-man 3 for a real comic book movie that cares about the source material and it's fan base.

I think your view is a bit negative. I think they know that most of the box office for these movies is from fans and not the average moviegoer.

We'll see how it plays out.

Although if Scott is confirmed dead, fro sure. Than this should be the end of the X-Men. and we can just consider that their whole story ended in tragedy with all of our favorite characters dead or "cured".

I don't think it will fail. The audience is probably 70% people who have no idea the essence of the X-men mythos; the same people that have no idea that Wolverine is completely out of character and stealing Cyclops' glory (among the couple dozen other things he steal). These people probably think Cyclops is some minor foil in the comics and that Jean and Logan have some grand, eternal love. However, I think it will get panned by critics and compared negatively to Singer's X-films.

I think all the rest of the cast, except for the younger cast, have all been pretty successful, despite X-Men. Jackman may have got his start with X-Men but his career is taking off. Famke and Halle were already established, along with Marsden.

Marsden just needs to break into leading man status and then I'll be satisfied. We all know he's capable. I'm tired of seeing him play the "other man" parts.

Well, he's leading in Enchanted, although that movie is Iffy at best.

He rocked in Disturbing Behavior and Gossip.

Yeah he did rock in those movies which is we he needs to do more of them. He's way better than Orlando Bloom, Ben Affleck and Ashton Kutcher...and the other ones who, for some uncanny reason, made it.

Are you kidding? Cyke's death will have NO effect on BO. The general public could care less about Cyke, and they make up the VAST majority of the BO. And 99% of fans will go at least once anyway.

As for Spiderman 3, people are b***hing like crazy over at the Spidy Boards.

Sorry didn't read a word you said, the psychedelic boobs were too distracting.

Correction, there's a few vocal fanboys *****ing like crazy on the Spidey boards. The vast majority are stoked for SM3.

Pissing off the fan base will effect box office, and Fox has done a damn good job of that.

Well...if anything the complaints will go the way of the organic webshooters ...

*cough* :o By the by, I've been a fan of Cyclops for a long time, practically the only character I play on X-Men Legends (a necessity to win, really) and I really dislike the treatment of Cyclops just to make room for Wolverine and Storm to shine because one is the money-maker and the other is played by a 'big' star.

Most people I talk to about Cyclops think he's a stick in the mud, worthless, and that Wolverine is so much cooler for being a badass. Instead, writing scenes/dialogue to examine WHY Cyclops HAS to be so anal would have been a great moment for characterization and have audiences turn the other cheek. Face it, people like Cyclops are necessary no matter how starched their collar...but those types of complex characters don't matter right?

But now...we get a water-downed, over-exposed Wolverine to compensate and an over-focused Storm :( .

GAH! And you know, in that special IESB interview with Hugh Jackman, he talks about how Wolverine's character deals with love and how far he will go for that person or whatever. THAT'S CYCLOPS PART DAGNABIT!

Exploring a reserved character like Cyclops requires audiences to use their brains. A character like Wolverine requires no effort because there's nothing to them except that he a loner and a bad-ass.

I hate this because i don't want to blame the Wolverine character or the Actor himself but he should know better than to say all that love nonsense i mean he was there he should now that his character was with jean FOR LIKE A WEEK OR LESS!!!!!! HOW THE HELL DO YOU FALL IN LOVE LIKE THAT!!??!?!

ive always said that in a more toned down not so harsh way :p but yea you have a point as bad as it may seem :O

i always could feel for wolverine, his entire life is a blur to him. i dun know how i would feel if could not remebrr my real name, or where i really came from. Thats what makes wolverine endlessy appealing, cause you just dun know what this guys done in his past. you never knows whats real, and what just some fabricated memory weapon X may have filled his head with. I think Jackman plays the part very well, and i like mardsens cyclops for the most part. Its better then haveing to play yet another teenager in Mardsens eyes anyways lol.

Actually its just a cheap cop out for a writer who can't develop a history for a character so he leaves it to other writers to come in and the sprinkles on the cake.......lol im just joking!!!

although that is what my friend said :p

I haven't read all 15 pages of this thread but I thought I'd throw my two cents in. I like X-Men, but I'm not a huge X-Men fan (I'm more of a Spidey guy myself) and I'm not really a fan of Cyclops either (Nightcrawler and Gambit are my favorite X-Men). But I think it's a horrible mistake to kill off Cyclops in X-Men 3. Love him or hate him, he is a big and important part of the X-Men mythos (heck, he's one of the founding members!) I'd almost go as far to say that Cyclops is an essential character, ESPECIALLY if Jean Grey is going to be a Dark Phoenix-ish character in this movie!

Personally, I think the Dark Phoenix saga could've been a movie all its own, and it would've been a nice third act of the trilogy...the first one was against "evil" mutants, the second against humanity, and the last one would've been against one of their own. But judging from what I've seen (admittedly very little) it looks like Jean Grey is a side story to the "mutant cure" plot (which I think is kinda lame but let's see how it plays out). And even worse, the death of a major character who has existed for 40 some odd years looks to be a throwaway shock moment. So much drama and character development could've been explored between Jean and Cyclops...heck, this could've easily been Cyclops' biggest role in the movie series to date and rightfully so, but it looks like that's not going to happen.

I think James Marsden did a great job with Cyclops, especially considering that if you put both movies together he had a total of 10 lines or something. I think Cyclops is always going to lose out popularity-wise to Wolverine because he isn't a bad-ass; but Cyclops isn't supposed to be. Yeah, he's a bit straight-laced and uptight, but there's no one else you'd rather have leading your team. He's way too important a character to the X-Men to kill off. I do want to see X3 but Cyclops' death is definitely a terrible decision.

I could care less about Cyclops in any incarnation. I'm actually glad he's dying b/c there's not much better than seeing a hundred fanboys sitting around in a circle-jerk and using each other's tears as lube before they blow their load on an X2 Cyclops poster.

BTW to whoever said that Mardsen has been the busiest actor since X1, Mardsen has done 14 projects and that includes one that is currently filming. Jackman has done 15 projects and that doesn't include his stint on broadway or the Van Helsing animated movie.
