Drama Damon Lindelof Developing The Leftovers at HBO

Just saw the teaser... WOW. This show just sucks me in. So glad we're getting a season 2

The Leftovers will return with its second season on Sunday, Oct. 4.

HBO released a spoilery synopsis.

After last season’s elaborate Memorial Day initiative by the Guilty Remnant plunged Mapleton into chaos, season two of The Leftovers finds many searching for a fresh start. Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) has retired from his post as chief of police of Mapleton and is moving his new family to Texas. With him is Nora Durst (Carrie Coon), who’s discovered new purpose in caring for the baby she found on Kevin’s doorstep and welcomes leaving behind Mapleton and the incredible tragedy she suffered there. Equally eager to leave the town she grew up in and the friends she made there is Kevin’s daughter, Jill (Margaret Qualley).

Upon their arrival in Jarden, Texas, the newly formed Garvey family meet their neighbors, the Murphys: John (Kevin Carroll) and Erika (Regina King) and their teenage twins, Evie (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Michael (Jovan Adepo). Attracted to this special town and hoping for miracles for his whole family, Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston) has moved with his wife, Mary (Janel Moloney), who still suffers from consequences of the terrible car accident on October 14.

Meanwhile, Kevin’s ex-wife, Laurie Garvey (Amy Brenneman), has left the Guilty Remnant and reunited with her son, Tom (Chris Zylka), who may have finally discovered a cause to help replace the pain in his heart. And while Meg (Liv Tyler) remains in the Guilty Remnant, it may not be the same cult she originally joined.

I can't wait for season 2 it sounds really interesting. I might re-watch season 1 this weekend.

I'm still a little skeptical about the change of moving the characters to another town/city. It reminds me of the 5th season of Nip/Tuck. They moved the doctors away from Miami to Hollywood as a way to give the show a soft reboot but by a few episodes later, the entire cast miraculously decided to move there too. :funny:

Idk about yall, but if a rapture-like event happened, the last place I would move is Texas. Id be trying to escape the areas where the most Bible believing conservative fundamentalists are. Id pretty much avoid anywhere in the deep South.

I can't figure out where the conflict comes from this season. Is hard even to say what the series is about, as a whole.

The show exhausted all the source material from the book in the first season, so they are now producing more original stories. This isn't like Game of Thrones or something like that where you can suspect something to come eventually.

My early suspicion is Liv Tyler takes over what's left of the Guilty Remnant and takes them in a different direction, making her the primary antagonist. It appears Tom tries to join them for a brief time but then there's scenes in the trailer where he and Laurie are not with the group anymore. Perhaps they're kicked out by Meg...?

There's also the whole thing with The Garvey's having Wayne and Christine's child, who some groups could target when they find out of its existence.

There's also Kevin's mental issues that seem to still be a factor. The parts of the trailer showing the girls going missing, that could be him leaving the bloody/muddy hand print on the glass. Patti's ghost still haunting him could support he still suffers from blackouts.

My guess is that Miracle has a dark secret. Like on the surface it seems like a nice, great, and inviting place with friendly neighbors, but underneath the surface is a rotten core. The Garveys are probably going to come face to face with that rotten core before the season is over.

When the hell is the S1 blu-ray getting released?

S2 looks so good...

What happened again to Kevin's son? The one who ran off with Christine? Is he dead?

He was in the first trailer I think
