Drama Damon Lindelof Developing The Leftovers at HBO

Damn this show is beautiful. Very interesting episode.

That 10,000 BC scene was... something.

Is that when that took place? It seemed intentionally ambiguous as to when that took place. And why it was even there.

Idk the exact date. I was just referencing the movie 10,000 BC, cause that's what it made me think of. It was far back tho. The only other possibility is that it's far far far in the future. Which knowing Damon that is a legitimate possibility.

Another random moment in this episode was the three girls running through the woods naked.

So the fireman isn't religious but he and other emergency workers purge the town of misfits and outsiders to keep the town pure?

.Now it seems a second rapture took his daughter?

Interesting.

The opening was amazing. The tension was insane.

and the water too, right?

I wonder if the town was in an earthquake when that day came. :hmm

Due to a clerical error the aliens missed Jarden, Texas the first time.

I almost think it's more likely that it's in the future. But in any case it will be very interesting to see how it fits in. It was so bewildering to watch. Like a different show altogether.

I thought it was some movie the characters were watching.

Did you not see the whole scene? The cavewoman died at the river the girls were swimming in. It wasn't a movie scene they were watching.

Yeah I caught that.

Oh ok I wasn't sure if you still thought they were watching a movie or if that was just your initial thought when it started.

Do y'all think there is some significance to the silhouettes of the people and the letters of the title in the new intro being predominantly field with images of galaxies, stars, and the sky? Is that just because of the rapture thing or could Damon be attempting to hint at something. One of the first things in the episode is also the camera focusing on the night sky and then the cavewoman looks up at the sky.

And something else I noticed, at the end I don't think the water was "raptured" with the girls. There looked like there was a hole in the river bed. I think a hole opened up and it pulled the water down and the girls got sucked down. That can actually happen and does happen at some lakes.

Well....that was an interesting episode to say the least....new intro, weird beginning, boring middle, interesting ending. I'm guessing it was a 2nd rapture? But what is the coincidence of all 3/4 girls being taken? and the water?

Eh, was kinda bored by last night's ep. I didn't like the way it was structured. The opening sequence dragged on for too long. The new characters are fine but it felt like watching a totally different show for the first 45 min. I was just waiting for the Garvey's to show up and when I saw a familiar face in Matt halfway through I was thrilled.

I think they should have gone half and half with the Garvey's and new family to better bridge the two seasons. It sounds like next week's episode is the same stuff but from the Garvey's perspective and we might not see Laurie, Tom and the GR until ep 3.

Regardless, I've missed the show and glad to see it back.

That could be it. I didn't get a good look at it. Water seems significant. In the opening silhouette images you refer to, I believe the last image had water droplets running down and they sell water in tubes.

It wouldn't surprise me if the are trying to indicate an answer... maybe aliens or whatever. Sadly, the show got some hate for not being about "what caused it".

I thought maybe the silhouettes were to indicate missing people.

I thought the opener was fine. I'm used to this show being strange, I think it's part of the appeal. :)

I don't mind the strangeness part of it. That actually made sense to me. There was a clear link to the prehistoric woman dying with her baby in that pond to the earthquake at the end that drained it. What bothered me is that it ate up nearly the first 10 minutes of the show.

Well 10 minutes out of a nearly 10 hours is a miniscule amount.

That is true. A lot of these shows are structured for the binge watching streaming crowd nowadays.

Yep. Id much rather watch HBOs shows in one or two long stretches. They are much more enjoyavle that way, but I dont have the patience to wait for the season to end. As soo as an episode airs Im watching it. Im weak.:funny:

It's also too great a show for that. I'm usually dying for Sunday night to come with this show. It's just that streaming has become so huge that Networks pander to the crowd that binge watches. It's the age we live in. Netflix was the first one to capitalize on it and they're the biggest thing ever.

Yeah, great to have it back but really wished to have more Garvey's. It was so nice to see Nora/Kevin again... even though the new people are pretty good. That father though, I don't trust him.

I'm hoping for a rapture-aftershock but don't see the correlation to the earthquakes considering it's Texas and we never saw anything like that in Mapleton or alluded to elsewhere last season.

The intro scene was weird.

Also, the new credits suck so much. Worst change ever, and a crime to humanity. Plus, not enough epic Richter score last night...

I loved the premiere. Such an amazing show. I loved how they introduced the new family and the setting. Based on the previews next week it looks like it will show the Gravey's trek to Miracle.

I don't like the new opening credits.

The first ten minutes of the episode were ........interesting.

I like the new family.

The fireman dad being all friendly yet threatening with every new person he met seemed ominous.
