Drama Damon Lindelof Developing The Leftovers at HBO

I really don't know what the hell is going on this show, where is headed, or what's the overall point of the series... but for some reason I can't stop watching it.
This is me. The acting is great even if I haven't a clue. :p

That's the thing. The acting is good, the show looks gorgeous, the dialogues are strong and some of the ideas are quite interesting. Is just that I don't have a clear view of what they want to say exactly. Where are they going with this?
Anyway, I'm sticking with it.

Me, too. Confusing or perplexing isn't as bad as out of control like Under the Dome or True Blood right now. :)

Finally a very good episode this past Sunday...Show has been frustrating, yet keeps having me come back to watch to see what the hell is going to happen.

All these depressed people, i figured there was going to be some supernatural crap...Looks like there may yet be some supernatural force involved but still uncertain how things will play out.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure either, but I'm fascinated as hell. I just hope Lindelof doesn't drop the ball on this.

One thing I was wondering last night... what if the leftovers AREN'T the leftovers? What if THEY were the ones who actually ascended (or descended) and they just don't know it yet? Maybe that 2% who disappeared are the real leftovers, still on Earth, while the people we've been watching are in the next world?

Probably not, but it's a theory. That could be why so many people who seem to have supernatural abilities or greater intuition are constantly pushing characters to do evil or questionable things. Wayne is a sex offender and a manipulative bastard. Patti stoned her follower to death and planned to do it to more of them. Dean is apparently willing to kill anything that rubs him the wrong way and is encouraging Kevin to do the same. Kevin's father is a violent psycho.

Maybe they're all in hell.

I seriously doubt the show will turn into some supernatural/fantasy stuff. Lindelof learned from Lost and all the (sometimes undeserved) backlash he got.
It worked in Lost (for me, anyway) but I think The Leftovers is more about the inner issues of this people and how society changes with an event like that.

Well, any way you slice it, the show has already delved into the supernatural. It might be focusing more on the characters and their relationships, but this rapture (or whatever it was) counts as a supernatural event. Additionally, Wayne's ability to magically take away people's pain, Kevin's father's insights and Kevin's apparent split personality are all likely part of the phenomenon. I'd be really surprised if Kevin and his dad are just flat-out nuts and Wayne only takes away pain because people who meet him simply get duped into believing he can.

Right, true. The rapture is the 'main' supernatural event that drives the show, but other than that, everything has been kept fairly realistic. It takes things to the extreme, but nothing completely 'crazy' has happened yet (other than the disappearance).

I don't think I'm even interested in knowing where this is going right now, of course, I'm very curious & eager to know some stuff, like I was with LOST (incredible show), but it's been clear for a while that it's more about studying these characters who lost all bearings & reason sometimes & are just struggling.

I could watch 10 hours of Kevin & his adventures for example.

If they don't explain the Rapture (and Lindelof said they're not interested in that), I'm cool with it, but I really really want to know about the National Geographic issue & Kevin's connection with the voices that speak to his dad, I think they'll explain this one.

The show is just so intoxicating if you're into it, I sometimes have very small moments during an episode where I kinda have to get my bearings, and then BAM, it just draws me in, it is so unique. And Theroux is just so incredible in this, everyone is excellent, but he continues to impress me every single time, it's insane how a bit of gruff on his face changes his appearance completely (imo).

I have to say, there's a bit of a man crush here :D

Agreed X2.

I prefer it being a major dissection on feelings and emotions that were escalated by a supernatural event.

Finally? This show has been killing it since episode 3.

That is not everyone's opinion...The show has been a mixed bag so far and I have been watching in hopes of it going in some direction.

And yes to me it was... FINALLY

The show is definetely stronger when it focuses on one character, like the reverend (best episode so far) and Nora.

Agreed, the single character episodes have been the best

I expect we'll get more single character episodes next season. They only have enough time left to wrap this season. I'd like to see eps next year on Laurie, Meg, Aimee and Tom to explain a bit bout them in the 3 years between the Rapture and the pilot.

For those who bought into it from the beginning, I personally have been hooked ever since the first episode, instantly drew me in.

I feel like we should be talking more about the revelation on Garvey's ritual campground thing...

You mean the shirts? Yeah, that was weird.

I saw an article on Warming Glow that mentioned how the campground is in Cairo, NY, and the NatGeo issue that Kevin's father gave to him was about Cairo, Egypt. Interesting...

I don't understand the placement of this episode, but damn was it really awesome seeing "October 13th".

Disappearing Fetus would be an awesome Radiohead song. It was crazy seeing a 'happy/normal' Garvey family and the little hints of what was to come, without getting too on the nose.

I really can't wait for next week, and hate that its the season finale already...

Also, what was up with Crazy Patti, it made her GR days seem normal?

Yeah the episode was good. It showed an event I was really looking forward to eventually see. I just didnt think we'd get a whole episode dedicated to it.

I think the placement was fine, but if I was them I mightve rotated the Pastor's solo ep with this one.

Side not: It was funny how young they made the daughter look just with a haircut, make up and braces. So sad to see such a relatively happy girl go to sh**.

It was crazy creepy they we're able to make Jill look 13ish.

I love everything about this town and it's characters. The only thing I don't care for is the weird Wayne guy.

That episode was so god damn powerful on so many levels.

This show is absolutely phenomenal.

Great episode though it took me a while to get it was a flashback, I was thinking it was Kevin dreaming again. :p

Haha, young Jill was funny. She reminded me of the daughter on The Middle. It's weird seeing the family so happy together (well, everyone except Kevin... though to be fair, I would have totally banged that woman too).

It's interesting that some people (Patti, those weirdos in the car towards the end) seemed to see the rapture coming. And the stuff with the deer also seemed like a sign of things to come. I wonder if the rapture had this effect on all animals; not just deer and dogs. It will be interesting to see if there are news reports of lions in Africa going all Ghost and the Darkness on various towns and villages.
