Dan Radcliffe to play Igor in Frankenstein!

I'm kind of worried this is going to end up like The Raven with John Cusack, or I, Frankenstein, or Priest, or Legion... You know, one of those movies.

May I say though, that I am very surprised and delighted by Daniel Radcliffe's sudden obsession with doing Horror movies exclusively now?

I think for Radcliffe it's a natural fit coming off of Harry Potter. Those are all in the same element of fantasy with increasing amounts of horror in them. Harry Potter got pretty dark by the end with Deathly Hallows although it wasn't horror.

Agree with you :)
But he could stayed in the fantasy genre as well. Probably not a smart career choice, though

Radcliffe with that hair kinda looks like a young Robert Carlyle.

n
he has a perfect face for horror movies. so i am happy :woot:

I am excited but this doesn't really look Igor-ish. In my mind i have Dwight Fry and Marty Feldman so....yeah...we'll see how this goes.

Andrew Scott (BBC Sherlock's Moriarty) is also in this film.

Potter got dark by the PoA.

We'll have to wait a bit more to see Frankenstein. It'll now open October 2, 2015 instead of January 16.

Daniel Radcliffe Calls VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN a “Rip-roaring, Fun, Adventure Movie;”
No Monster Creation Until the End of the Film
Perri Nemiroff said:
When asked how Victor Frankenstein will stand out amongst all of the other Frankenstein projects in the works, Radcliffe replied:

“I think our Frankenstein is a really kind of rip-roaring, fun adventure movie version of Frankenstein. I would really struggle to class it as horror. I think there are horror elements to it and nods to previous versions of Frankenstein, but it’s much more a film about – the thing that I hope will make it stand out is the relationship between James’ character and I. Victor and Igor are two people who come to need each other very much. The thing for me of the movie is actually about creation and, you know, Igor, my character, is taken out of this horrible abused life at the beginning of the movie and James sort of saves him and gives him this new life, sort of creating him in some sense, in creating this life that he has, and so because of that and because of the life he’s been saved from, Igor feels forever that he has this sort of debt of loyalty and the film then becomes about how much can that debt be pushed? How much can that loyalty be pushed before – at what point do you have to step out from the shadows of the person that created you and go, ‘I am my own person?’ Or, do you forever defer to the person that is responsible for your life? So it’s sort of, it’s a film about relationships set against the backdrop of creating monsters.”
Radcliffe also explained how Frankenstein’s monster fits in:
“One of the biggest differences between us and other Frankensteins will be that, generally speaking, the main relationship is between Frankenstein and the monster and the monster is created in the middle of the movie, and in our version it’s created right at the end and the journey up to that is really about how we come to that eventual idea. I’ve heard other people call it kind of an origin story for Frankenstein, but it’s an origin story for a Frankenstein you have never met before, if that helps. The quote that I got in trouble with with the producers was saying, ‘If you like the book, you’ll hate the movie.’ [Laughs]”

Looks ok. Nothing I'll see in theaters unless I hear it's really really good.

It didn't expect this to really make use or mention on The Monster at all or until the end. I didn't think the plot would revolve around it. (or at least that's what the trailer made it seem like)

Man... that trailer looks like it's trying to make a movie look like something it's not. Like it's some adventure Sherlock Holmes type thing. According to Max Landis, this is the best thing he's ever written.... I don't see that at all in that trailer but it just doesn't fit with that music and the jamming of humor into it.

I'm reading the book right now and I would love to see another movie done again and I'll see this depending on the reviews.

I really don't get this movie. The tone looks really uneven. It's like they are trying to turn Victor Frankenstein into some bizarre buddy action comedy like the new Sherlock Holmes films. It doesn't really seem to gel with the subject matter.

It seems like they are going for a Guy Ritchie/Sherlock Holmes style, but the other vibes I get from the trailer remind me of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

If this film somehow doesn't bomb, I will be very surprised.

I might be biased, but I prefer the Penny Dreadful version.

In theory, I have nothing against taking another stab at classic material like Frankenstein and Frankenstein's Monster. I am just not sure this style is going to work for the film. Like I have no idea what they are trying to do. Like Frankenstein is both hero and villain at the same time? I don't understand it. Or maybe Igor is the actual hero, but he doesn't seem to be doing anything actually heroic in the film.

I'm not a huge fan of Penny Dreadful, but at least they did something different with the Frankenstein dynamic that I think works well for TV and is sort of interesting.
