I always like the idea that Bullseye is sort of DD's opposite number, which is why his costume is essentially a black version of Daredevil's. He's sort of mocking him by wearing it (though I'm not entirely certain how well this joke works on a blind man). The reason that the film didn't have a costume was that it was a different time. Everything was following the X-Men example of costuming. But things are a bit different now, especially in a universe where people like Cap, Thor, and Ironman are established heroes. And as it's been pointed out, Bullseye's costume should be fairly easy to adapt, as it's mostly black.

I just think his costume looks stupid personally.

I agree it can look stupid, but I would hope they use the same kind of free adaptation of the costume the way they went a total different look for Whiplash in IM2.

I don't get how even the worst adaption could look stupid. All you need is black clothing and a mask with a bullseye.Impossible to get wrong.

Get an old costume from one of the X-Men films and a ski-mask and you're good to go.:o

So what is the tone do you think they are going for? The Bendis and Brubaker runs are similar yet Bendis lends itself really well to television because that comic did function a lot like a television show. Or just Miller's? It's pretty dark either way.

I honestly wouldn't mind putting a little bit of Waid's tone in it. The more swashbuckling sensibility that's fun but can still tackle serious issues like Foggy getting cancer or recently the whole ordeal with his mother having PPD. It's more in line with the tone of the Marvel films too so it could still work.

Yet apart of me would really like to see a new established tone of the MCU in this branch. This is their opportunity to go a little darker and grittier than what we've seen. And Daredevil along with the Defenders justifies that direction.

My view is no darker than Frank Miller's run. Miller's run is often seen as dark, but it actually had some nice moments of levity. It was also mature and didn't hide violence, but it wasn't over the top either (I think the comics code may have had something to do with that, though). The only story from Brian Michael Bendis I've read is Hardcore, but it was over the top for me. I'm hoping the fact that Mark Waid is involved in the show will avoid the temptation to go all the way down that road.

Waid is actually involved? If so, then excellent!

As a creative consultant, I believe. Whether that's a big role or small role, I have no idea. Just that he has some kind of involvement.

Literally, the quote is:

"It's in good hands. I don't want to overstate, but I've been asked to be involved on some level."

So, yeah, it's important to not overstate it, but he has some involvement. Maybe just as a guy to run things past or have one or two meetings, I have no idea.

If the main inspiration for this show isn't Miller's work then they're nuts. To me, even though I loved Bendis' run every bit as much, even more probably, when I think of DD I always go back to Miller's vision. It's pretty much the interpretation that has defined how people view the character today, much like his work on Batman.

I haven't read Waid's run because I didn't like the sound of where he was taking it in descriptions.

Your new friend Downey must have been very excited you got the role.
He was thrilled. My wife actually texted him a photo of me dressed as Kingpin and we got a very, very excited text back.
Damn it, Hackers! These are the kinds of photos we want to see!

Coffee With Vincent D’Onofrio, TV's New Kingpin

http://www.mensjournal.com/adventur...th-vincent-d-onofrio-tvs-new-kingpin-20140828

It’s hard not to be intimidated by Vincent D’Onofrio's size, which he's made formative use of throughout his impressive career. Whether he was shaking down perverted criminals during his 10-season run as Detective Robert Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, or playing the athletically-challenged Leonard "Gomer Pyle" Lawrence in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, the landmark role for which he gained 70 pounds. Since wrapping on Criminal Intent, he’s managed to spend some time behind the camera, most recently on Mall, schedule to be released on October 17th. He wrote the screenplay along with two friends, then, as producer, got the script into the hands of Joe Hahn, who will make his silver screen directorial debut, though it's not his first time behind the camera. Hahn has worked on video projects for his band, Linkin Park, and Vincent said of his work, “Joe's very honest on set and he sees the full scene happening. I liked that.”

D’Onofrio isn’t planning to quit acting anytime soon, though. At this very moment he’s preparing to show off his commanding presence as iconic villain Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, in the comic-based Netflix series Daredevil, the first of many promised collaborations between the streaming juggernaut and Marvel Studios. Standing in his presence in a room of the Roosevelt Hotel in New York, head shaved, black blazer draped on his broad shoulders, we can attest to the authenticity of his embodiment.

Now that I have you in a good mood, let’s talk about Daredevil.

Filming has been great. I can’t really talk about specifics. Really. But I can tell you it’s all working. It’s all gritty. Everything is really impressive. They seem to know what they’re doing over at Marvel. I think ever since Downey and [Jon] Favreau did Iron Man and proved that comic book movies could be really cool they’ve just embraced that and taken it to the next level. They keep knocking it out of the park. This Netflix series that we’re filming right now, it’s going to be so amazing to watch. We’re doing these incredible, iconic scenes every single day. I have the best character; I play one of the best characters I’ve read in a long time. I haven’t had this much fun with a role for many years.

How much did you know about the character before signing on?

I knew a bit about Wilson Fisk. I had seen the movies. I saw other interpretations. But for this, they really wanted everything to be fresh. They’re operating like they have been doing their movies. I’m finding most of my inspiration for Fisk coming from the old artwork, artists like Frank Miller.

Your new friend Downey must have been very excited you got the role.

He was thrilled. My wife actually texted him a photo of me dressed as Kingpin and we got a very, very excited text back.

I look forward to the Iron Man versus Kingpin crossover happening very soon.

[Laughs.] It’s not impossible! They have all kind of plans. I think this Daredevil show is going to be the start of some very exciting crossovers.

I like how he talks about all these iconic scenes they're filming. I wonder which ones in particular. He seems to be basing his performance on Frank Miller's run.

Also, it seems like it could make sense for Kingpin and Stark to cross paths in the business world at least once.

-Yeah, it really isn't that hard. This costume with a mask would be perfect, fo me at least:

I really think the Netflix series are gonna change everything around for the MCU. Some of the movies are too lighthearted and comedic, but I've only heard this described as gritty. i think this will end up being the darkest/most mature MCU project to date.

I think they'll also end up with the best villain of the MCU in D'Onofrio. What's more is that he would seem like he could exist in reality since he's just human without any special powers.

I don't like overhyping, I think I've done too much of it myself in anticipation of this show, but I will say that I really can't see them screwing this up, even if they try, whereas AoS I was iffy on the concept from the beginning.

Whether or not this is just a Marvel movie stretched out over 13 hours, or a really dark and true to the comics Daredevil, I really can't see it not being at the very least entertaining.

It's gonna change squat, this will be a reflection of DD as we've seen him portrayed in his greatest runs. I want variety, not a one size fits all approach.

Nothing wrong with fun and light moments. I'm tired of this shi# where people equate dark/mature with a certain importance. These are colorful characters in fantastical settings and we don't need some stick in the mud policy of no humor around the MCU. All these (MCU) characters have had dark stories and I'm sure we'll see it at some point, but I hope we see humor with it. The proof is in the pudding, how are people and critics responding to the MCU as opposed to the overwrought, self-importance of MoS for example.

yeah that Bullseye looks pretty sick actually

I didn't like the trenchcoat look of Bullseye in the movie, but I did like how they replaced the mask with the scarring. I'm fine with the mask too because i know it can look good, but if they get rid of it again, the scarring is a good alternative.

and i really hope we get to see Kingpin in the white jacket, purple pants, orange shirt outfit at least once. We're getting 13 hours of Daredevil. There's no reason Kingpin can't wear this at least once...

In that interview VD says he sent RDJ a pic of him in his white jacker as kingpin. So I think we'll see it.

Did he explicitly say white jacket? I don't remember that. Not saying that he's not talking about the white jacket, but its not confirmed yet.

Technically he didn't say "white jacket," he just said he sent a pic of him dressed as Kingpin. But that suggests Kingpin has a specific look, which suggests white jacket.
