Yea, that whole 70's setting thing was nonsense to begin with. It all started with Fox's failed attempt at a Daredevil reboot, Joe Carnahan sizzle reel and all, which he wanted to set in a 70's New York.
Then, even after Marvel re-acquired Daredevil, for some reason the nerd blogsphere/media latched on to this concept and kept pushing the idea that they thought it would be cool to set Marvel's street level heroes in the 70's Hell's Kitchen when apparently everything was grittier, unlike today's much more refined Hell's Kitchen. This somehow went from "fan-tasizing" to "rumor" in everyone's collective consciousness. That's the main problem with "fan blogs"... many of them don't understand the difference between actual sourced/substantiated news/rumors and fanboy-based wish fulfillment. Thankfully, Marvel cleared this up now.
